Initially paid around 290 for renting a car via the website. Then, the "salesman" at the rental desk of the airport slipped in premium emergency and road service insurances, which made it twice as expensive. He explained it to both of me and my partner as if it was included in the amount we already paid and was part of the deposit, rather than actual NEW expenses. So, be prepared to pay twice as much for your rental vs the amount you see on the website. Will never rent here again.
Is hertz rental company become a low level service rental company? Few years ago I would have rated Hertz at top level but after requesting 3 times copy of the rental invoice without receiving it, than writing to Hertz’s management and still nothing and having waited now more than one month, the answer is no, Hertz has changed, their customer service is poor, their responsiveness is poor Something positive? Yes you can find friendly people at the counter but still do not match the hassle to deal with the poor performances

Crooks! I had gone through the wisecars website, the rate being really very attractive!!!! At the end of the rental you are told that everything is ok, and finally you find a debit for an amount higher than the base rate! In the end, I paid 2.5 times more than the original price: €170 instead of €73! It's theft, my English is not perfect but I understood very well that the options would be refunded if I didn't use the toll roads, and I'm 100% sure I didn't by checking on CTT.pt with the license plate!!!!
Everything perfect. Good customer service. I rented the van and everything was great. They women at the customer service were very kind and profesional. Recommend it 100%.
Deplorable customer service. We had rented a car from Hertz in Evora with plans to return at the Hertz Montenegro location just outside of Faro Airport on September 28, 2023. We did this because we were picking up another car from the RecordGo location directly beside. The Hertz location closed at 6pm, we were there at exactly this time. We tried to explain our situation to the female employee working at this time (a young woman with glasses), but she simply said "go to the airport, we are closed". Despite pleading, she would not help us and walked away. What would have taken this employee maybe 3 minutes ended up adding an extra 90 minutes to our already extremely long day of travel. I can understand if we showed up 20-30 minutes after closing time. I was literally holding up my phone showing the employee the time but she did not care. Rarely have I seen such a lack of compassion in another human being. I know this review won't affect Hertz as a whole, but I hope this employee sees this and realizes how far a small amount of empathy would have gone. Thank you for the warm welcome to Portugal.
Lovely service, received discounted prices once we mentioned that we are on a small budget. Waived all extra fees and were incredibly pleasant both at arrival and drop off. Would hundred percent recommend going to the in person store rather then booking through websites because our cost would have been 800 euro instead of the 200 euro we paid.

Recogida en el stand de Hertz del aeropuerto de Faro con número de confirmación 783422482 y pocas veces he visto un empleado atendiendo a clientes más borde. No tengo problema en hablar en inglés, pero le pregunté si sabía español y me dijo que no, pero de vez en cuando se le escapaban palabras en español. No se digno a explicarme el tema peajes y aunque algo sabía del sistema en Portugal me dijo que ya me enteraría cuando estuviera en el coche, ni se digno a comentarme que la autovía que tenía que seguir era la A22 dirección Faro, que eso despista ya que el aeropuerto está en Faro y el navegador en fin, que no centraba el recorrido, no tenía audio y tenía que estar moviendo la pantalla y mirándola por falta de indicaciones sonoras. Todo esto lo soluciona una misma, pero la bordearía esa no.

They are crooks. Charging you for additional insurance even when you specifically tell them you are already insured. Dont rent from them. You will regret!

Unfortunately a very poor hire station. We were cheated and lied to, the employee lied to us several times and we were billed three times more than originally agreed. It was claimed that the car had an empty tank when we returned it and we were charged for a full tank, which was not true. We also had a dirty vehicle. We were also charged for insurance, which we didnt want but the employee forced us to take out the insurance because otherwise we wouldnt have got the car. We had already paid the full price in Germany and had to pay twice as much in Portugal. In total over 300 for 1 week driving the cheapest Dacia... Our signature was also forged.

We booked a car rental for a short trip from Faro to Seville via Opodo, seemed like a good deal from Thrifty, a supposedly reputable company. Upon arrival we had to go to Hertz out of hours customer service (around 11pm local time) and met a very busy chap dealing with multiple customers in rapid succession. When asked about details of our rental needs, I explained we only need the motorway toll device and the ability to cross the border. He asked whether we want premium or basic insurance, and we chose basic. I got handed a tablet with a big wall of text to sign, and didnt think much of it. I had a rough idea of how much the chosen extras might cost. Fast forward to the final bill received after the car was returned and just before we boarded the plane, and an additional charge for premium emergency road service was present, despite no-one requesting it and despite it not being mentioned by Opodo summary of the out of hours chap when we picked the car up. A hertz customer assistant lady I spoke to on the phone assured me this is not added to all rentals automatically as its an optional extra that is not a prerequisite for any of the other paid extras I requested, and that if Id like to dispute it I should email the Apoio Cliente address mentioned in some other reviews. The outcome (1 month down the line) of me challenging the added charge is basically them saying I signed for it when the rental started, hence I must have agreed to it, so Ive got no case here. My advice is to avoid hertz -and by extension thrifty (who do business with them) - like the plague they are, as its clearly about milking their customers for money rather than running a smooth, respected car rental business. There are other companies out there - some are more expensive, sure - but at least theyre honest about how much the whole affair is going to cost you.

Slow and rude when we picked the car up. When dropping off the had closed before the time listed on the rental agreement and on Google. Had to go drop off the car at another location.

In Paro, Hertz is only at the airport.
They were not particularly helpful. First they refused to accept the car and wanted us to drive to the airport (in retrospect may have been a better choice) but secondly had the age old problem of having to pay in pounds at a poor exchange rate, and they refused to let me pay in Euros.
