Normally I wouldn’t leave such a negative review but this was an appalling experience and not worthy of even one star The car we wanted was not available when we wanted it, so delayed our three day booking by one day so we could have the car we wanted with an electric roof. When the young lady turned up at our hotel The Saccharum - she was 15 minutes late and greeted us with “let’s go” no apology for keeping us waiting and appeared to be doing us a favour by turning up! Only to be told that the car we had booked was not available and was not going to be - so offered us another car in the next price bracket up for the same price. If we had wanted an alternative car we would have booked it - we booked the car we wanted. If they had communicated this at the time of booking it would have saved a great deal of aggravation. She phoned her boss… and though we don’t speak Portuguese - it was obvious she was not being complimentary about us. Offered us another car which again wasn’t suitable - so we called it a day as we weren’t going to get what we had ordered and her attitude was becoming more arrogant as time went on. Give the customer what they want and if you can’t deliver - then communicate in advance and maybe ask your representative to reflect on how she is perceived by the customer. Went to Tropical Hire car and they met our needs and we’re driving away within 30 minutes
They brought us a stick shift when we asked for an automatic, we lost a whole day of use and they still charged us , when they came to swap out the car they told us it would be an additional charge .
Car ok and clean. But tank only half full, which is an nucance, as you never know how much to put in the tank. Access is very difficult to find, as it's in the old town with a lot of closed roads. No way to drop the key after rental, so you have to go back there just to drop the key. When I gave it back, there was fuel missing worth 3-5 €. They wanted to charge me an amount more then to fill the entire tank. So I went to fill again on my own. What does it matter if it's half full or half full? And yes, very careful checking even tough we had full coverage (for a high price). Good point: one staff was very friendly, and it's central.
Perfect service, even at 22.00 h with flight delay. Fast shuttle service. Nice car, Opel Crossland, automatic (a must on Madeira). I recommend this car rental.
We had rented a small car from Whynot through SunnyCars. Upon arrival at the office, we were upgraded to a brand new Peugeot 2008. The office in Funchal operates efficiently and professionally. After returning the car, we received an SMS notification that a driver's license had been left in the car while we were already at the airport. The license was sent to our home the same day. Conclusion: 10-star service!!!
Run away. I was prepared to reccomend this company until I received a message saying they are charging me $600 for damages to the car. We hardly drove the car and never even touched the area they are claiming we damaged. My daughter and I parked this car at our hotel and went shopping. Not too much driving. I plan to dispute the charges and will call my travel agent and friends and family to let them know this company will scam you. I have my own pictures of the car as well.
We came to rent a car (reserved in advance!) and realized that we both forgot our driving licenses back in Canada! We didn't even have a picture of them. A total panic mode! We were desperately searching for a solution! During that time, the agent named Rose was very calm and very friendly to us. She made a few good suggestions; one was to search the Website of Ministry of Transportation in Canada to see if we could find a record of our silences online. Following her valuable advice, we were able to find that record! I felt that she literally SAVED our vacation! Without a car in Madeira for a week - it would be a disaster! Well... having a car was a disaster too, LOL, due to the crazy roads they have in Madeira, but that's a different story! :-) So, we sincerely, want to THANK Rose for her service and advice! An overall experience renting and returning the car was easy, hustle free. Good service! Obrigado!
Renting from Why Not was a pain free experience. We rented a car to explore the island for 1 day and Why Not had the best rate on the island. Our car was brand new (not even 50km on it) and equipped with Apply CarPlay to make navigating easy. We were charged a €100 gas deposit which was refunded upon returning the car. Be sure to return with a full tank to avoid this! There’s also overnight parking nearby for <€2 if you need to return the next morning.
Je suis vraiment insatisfait par vos Services lors de notre séjour à l Hôtel Monte Mar Palace à Porta Belgada à Madère. Après avoir convenu d un prix pour 6 jours de location d une Renault 208, votre commissionnaire ajoute des frais de 20 pour la livraison. Heureusement, la réceptionniste de l hôtel obtient un remboursement de cette somme. Nous rendons le véhicule le vendredi à 16h, lequel n avait toujours pas été retiré le lendemain lors de notre départ . Par contre, vous vous permettez de me prélever 51,45 , sous 2 prétextes : Fuel différence 80 % pour 90 %, et Nettoyage de l intérieur ( très exagéré de votre part ! ). Il est à ce jour, incroyable d être abusé , de cette manière très douteuse et malhonnête ! Gérard GRUNY

De auto en prijs bij Why Not Car Rental waren prima, maar de dame die onze boeking deed (van de rental zelf) was helaas erg onaardig. Er was geen ruimte voor vragen en het leek alsof ze absoluut geen tijd voor ons wilde maken. Jammer, want door de service zouden we hier niet opnieuw huren.
Wir haben 7 Tage gemietet über mietwagen brocker. Alles ok, aber ein Caveat ist angebracht. Ich habe noch nie so eine gründliche Fahrzeuginspektion erlebt wie hier, sowohl bei Übergabe als auch bei Abgabe (20 Minuten Sichtung jeweils!). Hier ist es vielleicht doch angebracht eine KFZ-Versicherung ohne Eigenbeteiligung zu wählen. Nicht alle Schäden verursacht man z.B. selber, wie Parkrempler etc.
Wir haben uns für 7 Tage ein Auto gemietete bekommen haben wir was wir erwartet hatten. Einen Opel crossland als Automatik. Groß genug um nichts reinquetschen zu müssen, klein genug um durch die engen Straßen in Madeira zu kommen. Wir haben ca. 430 für 7 Tage gezahlt. Da wir über ein Reisebüro in DE gebucht haben, bekommt man auch die Vertragskonditionen von Deutschland, sollte ein Schaden etc. Entstehen. Das kann ich nur jedem empfehlen. Personal war super freundlich und unkompliziert. Auto hatte 20.000km drauf und war tip top. Gerne wieder!
Bardzo Samochód podstawiony pod hotel. Pracownik wszystko dok adnie wyt umaczy i pokaza przy samochodzie. Minimum formalno ci. Dane z prawa jazdy i kilka podpisów i mo na jecha . Nie ma potrzeby karty kredytowej. Ja p aci em gotówk . Pobieraj 100 kaucji w razie jakby kto zapomnia zwróci zatankowane auto. Auto to Opel Astra w automacie ( polecam wszystkim je d cym po Maderze ) Zwrot samochodu równie pod hotelem. Szybko i sprawnie i oczywi cie zwrócona kaucja . Jeszcze raz polecam.
Hatten über das Hotel angefragt. Sehr nette und u komplizierte Abwicklung der Mitarbeiter, kamen extra ins Hotel. Auto war ein Peugeot 208 Automatik. Guter Zustand, viele Kratzer (sind auf Madeira aber normal). Konnten auch ganz easy per Telefon noch einen Tag verlängern. Abgabe direkt im Hotel. Alle unkompliziert. Lreise sind auch super günstig. Klare Empfehlung
Via Sunny Cars voor ruim een week een auto gehuurd. We kregen een ruime Peugeot 2008 die nog haast nieuw was. Bij het ophalen vanaf de luchthaven was het even zoeken naar de juiste persoon maar eenmaal gevonden waren we met een korte transfer bij het kantoor. Alles duidelijk geregeld en vlot. Bij het inleveren in bij het kantoor in het centrum van Funchal waren we blij dat het een zondag was, anders kan het een uitdaging zijn om er te komen, en parkeerplaatsen zijn er nauwelijks. Geen schades of problemen gehad, alles prima!
Esta empresa engaña a la gente y la tima, me querían hacer pagar 153 por un pinchazo de una rueda teniendo seguro, al final tuve que pagar 100 , cosa que NO tenía que haber hecho, NO ALQUILEN NINGÚN COCHE AQUÍ, llamen a la policía, a mi no me quisieron dar el número de la policía
Een auto geboekt via SunnyCars voor 4dagen. Heel vriendelijk personeel, behulpzaam in het engels, goede en vlotte afhandeling. Geen extra verzekeringen proberen aansmeren, alles was duidelijk en correct. Top!

One day prior my arrival in Funchal I received an email saying that the vehicle which I booked will not be available anymore and they have another car for me much more expensive. Ive canceled everything. Disgusting.
Diese Mietwagenfirma war einfach perfekt. Total cool für uns: dort haben zu unserem Zeitpunkt nur Frauen gearbeitet. Dadurch haben wir uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Alles ist abgelaufen wie beschrieben: wir wurden am Flughafen abgeholt, der Wagen war super, Rückgabe einfach und problemlos und wir wurden am Ende wieder zurückgefahren. Alle freundlich. Sehr gerne wieder!
Worst car rental service ever. Do not recommend to anyone. Prices are insane, it was the first time I heard about fuel deposit , I mean I get full tank policy but this is beyond my imagination

Nous rentrons de Madère voiture louée sur 2j, catégorie 1 pas dispo, nous passons à la catégorie 5, une Toyota yaris, l horreur, aucune puissance, obligée d être constamment en 1ere vitesse pour monter une côte...pas normal de louer des voitures pareilles pour cette île, ça nous a coûté plus de 200euros pour 2j, et en plus ça ne parle ni ne comprend le français, je décommande vivement.

Heel prettige autoverhuurder. We hebben via SunnyCars een auto gehuurd bij deze rental omdat er online werd gewaarschuwd voor het huren van autos bij de verhuurders op het eiland zelf. Zelfs via een tussenverhuurder als SunnyCars wordt er (ook door Sunny zelf) gewaarschuwd om geen extra verzekeringen af te sluiten. Wij werden bij het ophalen netjes door Why Not te woord gestaan, hebben samen een rondje om de auto gelopen waarbij werd gemarkeerd op welke plaatsen er kleine beschadigingen zaten op de auto voordat we hem meekregen. Er was geen gedoe, geen aanbod van extra verzekeringen, alles verliep zoals afgesproken. Bij het inleveren van de auto een klein rondje om de auto gelopen weer samen, ons afschrift voor borg teruggekregen en ook hier net te woord gestaan en afgerond zoals afgesproken. We zouden wel aanraden om via (bijvoorbeeld) SunnyCars te boeken, maar dan is deze verhuurder een absolute aanrader.

Had no problems with the car or service. We got a basically brand new car delivered to our hotel, great service, lovely lady working there. Cant comment on the prices since we kinda rented the last minute and didnt get the chance to check the other offers.

Los dependientes son antipáticos, con poca cortesía e interés en ofrecer un servicio de calidad. Un coche con las prestaciones más bajas que pueden existir en estos tiempos. En fin, que no lo recomendaría a nadie y por supuesto que no volvería a este lugar.
Wir hatten in unserem Hotel in Porto Moniz an der Rezeption nach einem Mietwagen gefragt. Da das Hotel wohl guten Kontakt zu Why Not hat, haben wir darüber gebucht. Das Auto, ein Peugeot 208 wurde pünktlich zum vereinbarten Zeitpunkt im Hotel an uns übergeben. Das noch recht neue Auto war in einem tadellosen Zustand! Alles war prima. Das Einzige, was wir vielleicht bemängeln könnten, war, dass das Auto eine Stunde später, als verabredet, erst wieder in Empfang genommen wurde.
Ive rented a car there three times over the last few years. Good prices, no insurance rip-offs either. Picking up/taking the car directly on site including instructions, and just as uncomplicated as returning it.

Unkompliziertes Handling bei Übernahme und Abgabe.Der Motor vom Mietwagen machte mir allerdings einen Reparatur bedürftigen Eindruck,da er rasselte und kaum Bergauf kam
Gebucht wurde ein Renault Megane cabrio. Der Zustand des Autos war nicht zufriedenstellend. Die Mängelliste war enorm und gab einem kein gutes Gefühl. Leider war ein Ersatzauto nicht verfügbar. Personal war nett und freundlich.
Very good car rental place
Absolut in Ordnung. Der Wagen hat zwar schon 80000km auf dem Tacho gehabt und einige kleine Kratzer, aber er lief prima und auch sonst hat alles super geklappt. Reifen, Bremsen, Technik alles OK. Ich habe über Check24 zu einem sehr günstigen Preis buchen können, Empfang und Rückgabe im Zentrum Funchals, alles problemlos.
Wir hatten ein Renaut... soweit okay, doch die Bremsklötze und die Reifen waren schon recht abgefahren. Der Wagen wäre nicht mehr durch den TÜV gekommen.
Had a really good experience. Really nice service, car and the child seat were in good condition(Opel Corsa). I didnt book online, just went there and got a car. No extra fees, although they took my credit card info.
I do not recommend this company. The car I received was damaged, I noticed the damage after 2 days (not visible on first look, I am sure that the damage was from the 1st day because I took a photo of that day and when I zoomed in, I could see that the car was flawed from the very beginning), if I did not take full insurance (which was suggested to me as a better option), I would have a big problem. The car itself was able to brakefor no reason at the empty road in front of me , (broken automatic braking sensor) I had to turn it off before each trip. Of course, before I got to that, I had quite dangerous situations a few times. At the start I had an adblue control... At the end, I refueled and checked several times if the fuel dispenser would break. I drive less than 3 km to the parking. After about 3h a rude gentleman from the company called and informed me that the fuel tank sensorr is on about 90%, so he would charge me 10 euros. After a short conversation, I agreed not to spoil the last day of vacation, and after a few minutes I saw that, the card was charged 15 euros, not 10. It is worth mentioning that the full refueling from range of 30 km cost me 60 euros ... If you do not want to have any unpleasantness on vacation, avoid this company.
Freundliche Mitarbeiter, Mietpreise liegen ca. In der Mitte, das Auto war ein Peugeot Diesel mir 12500 km noch recht neu. Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit dem Auto. Auch in den engen Gassen ließ sich das Auto gut fahren. Steile Straßen konnten zügig gefahren werden. Dieselverbrauch lag bei uns bei ca. 4,5 Liter auf 100 km. Diesel kostete Ende August 2022 1,67 . Der Mietpreis für drei Tage 301 mit Vollkasko usw. Wir sind rund 400 km in den 3 Tagen gefahren. Wir waren mit allem zufrieden!
The website didn t worked on my device. But we just went by and reserved a car for the next day. Without trouble. No queue no waiting. The price was not cheap but that is the new normal in 2022. the car itself had 10.000 km and no issues.
Good service. We rented peugeot 108 with a removal roof (recommended) through a travel agent. Paid in cash. Car we got was clean. No trouble at all. In the end, we just left keys at the hotel reception.

Why Not Car Rental should not be trusted. They are collecting fees for things that are not in rental terms and conditions. For example they charged me 10 extra as refill rate just because fuel tank was not at the same level. So the missing fuel costed 14 , and just for that they added 10 out of the blue. In my country is it called stealing if someone takes fees that is not included in agreement. I do not recommend.
Its been quite a journey to find THE rental car place that has good cars and good prices. After reading some really comments, we decided to give it a chance. We reserved a car for 10 days and the car was almost brand new! (only a 1000km on it!). We were super happy since Madeira is quite hardcore to drive with all the curves and hills. We had really really good customer service and our experience was hassle free. I cant recommend this place enough! When well go back to Madeira (cause for sure we will come back!), we will rent with WhyNotCar Rental again for sure!

Hier wurde über check24 ein Mietwagen angeboten, der mir (Alter 27-63) nach Buchung von Drivefti ohne Kommentar storniert wurde. Gleichzeitig gab es das Angebot aber weiter! Auf Nachfrage erhielt ich von check24 erst nach einigne Tagen die Nachricht Nach unserer Erfahrung dauert die Bearbeitung von Reklamationen bei driveFTI bis zu acht Wochen. Ob es am lokalem Vermieter WhyNotCar Rental (Driveft tritt wohl als Vermittler auf) ist auch möglich. Bei dieser Unzuverlässigkeit und extrem langen Wartezeit sowie fakeAngeboten ist das Vertrauen natürlich weg.

Very poor service and information. Eventually straight up rude communication, willing to argue with me and not ever listen, repeat information that would not solve the situation. Hardly ever you feel this desperate as a customer. We ran to a very stressful situation when returning the car right before our flights, they would pick my phone up but wouldnt help saying they arent open yet, while we tried to figure out where exactly to drop the car off. The contract said Balcao Aeroporto, so we found Why Not Car Rental marked spots to leave the car there, however there was no designated box to leave the key. Their airport kiosk was closed/unattended so we desperately searched for a safe place to leave the key while I was checking-in on the flight. To keep the key safe we put it in their mail box. 420 EUR was charged later. We noticed a scratch at the car and went to get a quote at a car service, it would have been 90EUR there. Several phone calls have been done since and I have only repeated myself what we did and where we left the car and the key. It has never seemed heard and willing to cooperate, rather I was asked why did we not returned the car to the office somewhere else and claiming the airport kiosk was attended that morning (while Google and our personal visit says otherwise). NOT TO MENTION THE BEYOND RUDE NOTE IN THE EMAIL (SEE ATTACHED) ACCUSING MY PARTNER OF CREEPING AROUND WHEN DESPERATELY TRYING TO FIND A SAFE PLACE TO LEAVE THE KEY. RIDICULOUS. Just as if we had nothing better to do on our holiday 2 hours before our flights were leaving. Big opportunity for Why Not Car Rental to improve their information sharing and customer service. The website is out of order and yet it allows you to book a car. Had to call them days later to find out my booking was not accepted, and they had no more cars available. Poor management!

I do not recommend this rental company. The car rented through the Itaka travel agency did not show up at the agreed time today. The car was supposed to be delivered to the hotel at 9 oclock. We waited for the car for 30 minutes and without any explanation the car did not appear.

Attracts you with very low prices - even via large booking websites like check24. Shortly after the booking with credit card and all your data you get the message that your car is not available - but you can book a car for much higher prices. Thats not fair, thats NOT acceptable - never ever again we will try this car rental. For all of us this car rental is blacklisted ...

Deze mensen zijn niet eerlijk. Ze komen niet opdagen op het door hun zelf specifieke opgegeven tijdstip en brengen vervolgens kosten in rekening die niet vooraf gemeld zijn. Als je telefonisch om uitleg vraagt smijten ze gewoon de hoorn er op. Als je de andere reviews leest zie je dat ze dit vaker doen. Klinkt als oplichting. Beter bij een grotere club huren. Nooit meer hier. Gelukkig heeft onze reisorganisatie dit probleem vaker te horen gekregen en hebben zij de onterechte afschrijving van onze creditcard vergoed.

Recommend! It was our first experience with car rental. We was a little afraid about all process, communication etc. But everything was perfect. The staff was very nice, friendly and helpful. We got perfect instructions...so we had any problems. The transport from and to the airport was quickly and very easy. I recommend this company!

Nice car rental company that brought the vehicle to the hotel, where the handover also took place. The car, a Toyota Aygo with 90,000 km, was in good condition, only the gearshift was a little worn out.

Location de smart sur 1 semaine. Voiture au top aucun problème sur les reliefs de lîle. Personnel agréable. Période où toutes les voitures étaient réservées donc réservations en ligne impossibles et prix plus élevé.

Very bad service and bad price. Our car had a lot of deseases and it was nearly impossible to keep our things in the back of the car, so we had a lot of problems. When we said this to the personal, what was the answer? Its not our problem. Disgusting!

Dishonest company, terrible car maintenance (tyres used past safety limit) and abusive invoicing of damages after you left (so, no way to contest it although there was nothing) Look somewhere else for your car rental!
