Totally awesome time..we knew it was going to be good..but not this good!! In fact we started with one day and ended up spending two incredible days with Steve! If youre thinking of booking a trip, dont hesitate, just go for it...you wont regret it!!

Ich habe einen Tagesausflug gemacht. Man hat gemerkt dass Steve die Insel in und auswendig kennt und konnte eine schöne Route in Abhängigkeit vom Wetter raussuchen. Das Motorrad war sehr gepflegt und er hatte auch Schutzkleidung für mich. Ich habe die Tour mit ihm genossen und kann sie nur weiterempfehlen.

I was going to hire a bike and take myself around the Island, that would have been a big mistake. Had 3 fantastic days riding with Steve, he knows the Island and certainly has the right bikes for the type of roads. Im going with him again, its too much to take in in one go. Spent the day riding with Steve and can confidently say it was my favorite part of my time on the island. Theres a reason why he has a 5.0 rating... Ill also echo the other reviewers here who were considering renting a bike and self directing their own tour of the island, Steve knows the weather, the roads and all the cool spots to see without you needing to think about anything. Fantastic day out during a family holiday. Steve offered me a trip with another rider after I had enquired the week before about a 1 day tour. As I was unsure which day of the holiday I would be free, I had looked at hiring a bike and doing my own trip and after a fantastic day out I am delighted to have gone with Steve, great route at a relaxed pace and no having to constantly be looking at directions etc just enjoy the twisting roads and stunning scenery. Plenty of view point stops, great lunch and a couple of coffee stops. Will be riding with Steve next time we are back on the island - can t recommend highly enough

Usually, I rent bikes and just go ride wherever when on holiday. I did that here in Madeira on Thursday. On Friday I booked with Steve. Guess which day was a MUCH better day of riding? Truly, Steve s local knowledge after eight years on Madeira shines through as he ll take you to the best scenic roads mile after mile. There were plenty of coffee spots on the way as well. An excellently paced day. Finally, the bikes that Steve has for you to use are immaculate.

Without doubt the best way to see Madeira - forget hiring a Smart Car! Great local knowledge, away from the tourist traps, and the NC750X bikes are ideal for the terrain. I originally only booked for 1 day but enjoyed it so much I booked a second. If you ride bikes this is a must do.

We came across Steve s motorcycle tour company when looking for some motorcycles with more muscle to climb the mountains on Madeira Island. After some research, we determined that having a talented and knowledgable guide was even a better idea than going on our own. We were absolutely delighted with the experience. Steve is a true gentleman and, incredibly well travelled around Madeira Island, and many parts of the world on motorcycles. His stories and experiences are enthralling. He is a very safe leader on the road and I am saying this from many years of riding in group formations back home. This was one of our best days of our vacation on Madeira Island. We would highly recommend Steve and his high-quality motorcycles for a memorable riding experience around this gorgeous island.

Absolutely fantastic day out. He took us on stunning routes, away from the popular destinations (although he knows those routes as well). Getting to experience spectacular scenery, awesome biking roads and nice coffee/ food spots. There was no faffing around, just riding bikes. The bikes are well maintained and perfect for the conditions. If youre a biker, and visiting Madeira then this is a must. Highly recommend.

Absolutely thrilling!! Steve is personable and knowledgeable, and tailored the ride to our level. He took us on the ultimate twisties, stopping for photo ops,coffee & lunch. Bikes are in top shape and perfectly suited to the roads. Gear fit perfectly. After not riding for 6 months (were from Canada), what a blast! What a way to kick-start my riding season! There were 3 of us ( including Steve) on this trip and it was a blast! Starting out of Funchal and into the hills was just amazing as this was my first visit to Madeira. The pace was good and the scenery - awesome. Steve did a great job and a special thanks to him.

Promised to to write a review on google, so here we are! I made two different tours one East, one west with Steve and of course w on two different motorbikes after having a time out on my motorbike for 7 years, so it was quiet exciting to get into again and Steve made it easy for me as a guide and a person with an extraordinary nice character to get back on the track. So we had two blasting days, enjoyed every minute, except the rain north the mountain Highly Recommended, I will be back for sure

My one day guided tour with Steve was the absolute highlight of my week of vacation on Madeira. In my opinion, there is no better way to experience this beautiful island, than on a motorcycle and supported by Steve as guide. Steve knows all the best backroads for motorcycle addicts and you will for sure be guided through the most scenic and breathtaking landscape in addition with the best turns and plenty of hairpins. Steves experience in this field guarantees you a well maintained motorcycle with the most suitable technical setup for the job. On top of that you get the benefit of Steves knowledge of the island and its history as well as his pleasant company that includes a warm sense of humor. I only had a single day planned with Steve, but next time Ill be booking much more time with him as he can plan multiple days, whit new roads every day. That is the power of local knowledge. I had a great day touring around the island with Steve. Top scenic routes Top bikes, especially configured for Madeira Island with maximum torque on these steep roads. Top guide, couldn t be better. In german: Wenn du das Stilfserjoch im Schlaf beherrschst, brauchst du nicht unbedingt einen Guide. Ist unterwegs die Strasse dann aber mit 3 Rental Cars verstopft welche nicht durch die Kehren kommen, wirst du froh sein dass Steve an der nächsten Abzweigung einen noch besseren Weg findet ohne Rentals. Wolltest du das Stilfserjoch immer schon mal fahren, hast dich aber nicht getraut, dann gönn dir 1-2 Tage mit Steve auf Madeira und du bist fit für s Stilfserjoch, sogar an einem Schönwetter- , Sommer -Wochenende . I wanted to get away for a few days pre-Christmas to ride somewhere in the sun and it was the best blooming decision! I specifically went to Madeira for the bike tour after i got in touch with Steve; he was quick to respond to my various questions and made me feel at ease from the get go. Steve is incredibly knowledgable of the area and great company! As a lone female, I felt completely safe throughout and i had the best day. The route we took was varied, the weather conditions in each area were taken into consideration beforehand and the things i learnt and saw were beyond expectations. The island is beautiful and Steve is a gem! Note: If you are taking any electrical devices (Camera, phone etc) take a USB charging cable with you if you think you ll run out of battery; I used an Insta360 and regretted not having it running for longer!

Fantastic couple of days, Steve is a great host and guide, huge amount of local knowledge and history. Stunning scenery, lovely little out of the way restaurants. Many of the roads are quite steep with a few hairpin bends but the roads are mostly in good condition and Steve sets a nice steady pace. Will definitely be returning!

Absolutely loved our riding day with Steve. Steve is easy to chat with, patient, and gave me great tips for island riding. His bikes are suited perfectly for the island with lots of bottom end torque and a low center of gravity. Will definitely be a repeat customer when travelling to Madiera again.

A fabulous two days riding round Madeira with Steve. Many very interesting roads with great views. Having Steve as a guide, with his excellent local knowledge, made the rides easy and very enjoyable. This was my first experience of a guided tour and motorbike rental. It was positive from start to finish and, quite frankly, Steve has set the standard very high for others to follow. Initial contact was simple and personable and didnt feel like a business transaction, more of an arrangement for a meet up between fellow bike riders. Communication was through Facebook messenger. Good quality and well fitting helmet, jacket and gloves were provided as part of the deal as I didnt have baggage space to bring my own on the plane. The bike was in excellent condition; well maintained and perfect for the roads in Madeira. Ive ridden in many groups over the years and have discovered,, through experience, that most lead riders have a tendency to forget their role and make unexpected manoeuvres that leave the other riders wrongfooted and in potentially risky situations. Steve is a rarity; steady as a rock with his decision making and can be read like a primary school book. In fact, his roadcraft was so consistent and experienced that I was able to follow him through corners, choosing my own lines based upon his road position, reading the road through him without fault or need for adjustment. Stop-offs were well spaced out and always involved interesting chats about the area and its history mixed with easy banter surrounded by epically stunning views. The routes were well considered and varied in their roadcraft levels. In conclusion, an excellent adventure on a superb machine with a bloke that Id gladly call a friend, full of good memories that I will carry for life.

I was only on the island for one week but decided before I went to have one day with Steve and one day on our own but after experiencing a day with the Steve I decided to go for a third day and leave the wife by the pool I can honestly say that this is one of the best experiences I have ever had on two wheels and to have Steve work the routes out takes all the worries of getting lost and also staying off the main roads is a major bonus. Steve has a vast knowledge of the island and keeps giving you information about the many areas you will visit with him. I will return to the island and contact Steve to do more adventures in the near future as this really made my holiday extra special.

We had a fantastic two day guided tour and really got to see the island and it s amazing landscapes.Lush forests, steep winding roads and spectacular mountain and coastal views.Steve is an excellent guide and will take you on roads and to locations you wouldn t easily find yourself. He knows the best coffee stops and lunch stops with excellent views. One of the highlights for us and there was many,was getting above the clouds on the road up to the radar station at 6000 feet. The islands varying landscapes are amazing.This tour has it all and if you re into bikes it comes very highly recommended. It made our holiday.Eddie and Christine Lange.

We had planned to hire a bike from Steve for 4 days and arranged with him to take us out on our first day for a tour. We quickly realised that Steves knowledge of the island and roads was invaluable and we would have a far superior biking experience if he showed us all the places he knows, so we hired him for the 4 days. What an experience. His tours really made our holiday. The bikes were superb. Well maintained and totally suited for the terrain. The roads are definitely for experienced and very competent riders. Great days riding, Steve your a diamond mate. Fantastic roads, stunning scenery and good knowledge supplied by you. This is a must do if your a biker. You wont see half the sights and youll miss most of the roads without a guide like Steve. Much safer as well, following someone who knows the roads so well, you can enjoy every hairpin... of which there are many!

This was the best motorcycle tour I ve ever been on. Steve took us to amazing spots and we had a delicious lunch with an amazing view. The Honda bike I rode was also perfect for the mountains here. Just the one day tour, Steve took us to the North of the island showing us some fantastic view points with great roads to ride in between. Also a hidden gem of a restaurant with food cooked on a wood fire.

I had a great tour with Steve to the North of the island, Porto da Cruz, Santana, Sao Jorge. Steve took me to places and roads that I would never have found myself, let alone getting back from there. Though the Honda 750 is not super powerfull, it is great fun to ride in this environment, with much power from low revs and very comfy. Also, the espetada we had for lunch was very delicious. When I get back to Madeira, I will certainly ask Steve for another tour, preferably to the West.

I dont usually write reviews. Well, my day of riding was the highlight of my trip! The memories and value cant be beat. Thank you, Steve! This is not a rental agency. Youll be shown around by a local who loves riding and who loves Madeira and its quirks. Steve adjusts each trip for the experience level of those riding, with regular stops at picturesque locations. Plenty of other folks have already commented on the twisty roads and the incredible views that you will see. Youll see the sights and have fun, while staying off the beaten path. The bikes have the right torque to handle the steep inclines, even two-up. Equally important, they have good tires and are well maintained. Do yourself a favor and book.

Just done a 2 day tour with Steve, on a Honda 750 NC and then tried a BMW GS, both are fantastic bikes for the terrain. This was an amazing experience, it was Steve s local knowledge that was key to seeing so much of the Island, I would never have found some of these locations alone. This was definitely the highlight of my holiday in Madeira and a must do for any biker.

As others have said the two days we did with Steven touring the island absolutely made our holiday. Its his knowledge of the roads and best places to stop for a photo opportunity or a drink and or a swim, that are priceless. We would never have found them on our own! We basically ran out of superlatives to describe the views and vistas he showed us. His bikes are just perfect for these roads as well. Cant recommend him highly enough.

I went out for a day with Steve on a Honda NC750, which I had never ridden before. As other reviewers have said, the bike was immaculate and easy to ride, and the trip was unforgettable. High mountain roads above the clouds, pine forests in the clouds, banana plantations and jaw-dropping views everywhere. Steve is a relaxed and knowledgeable guide with interesting stories to tell and knows the island inside out. If you are considering motorcycling while on holiday in Madeira then I heartily recommend a tour with Steve as the best way to do it. Youll see and learn a lot more than you would on your own, and you dont have to think about where you are going - just sit back and enjoy the ride. Im coming back next year!

Excellent day on the bike, plenty of breaks for photos and drinks etc. Scenery is a bit mind blowing at points, and the route Steve takes you in would be very hard to do on your own, even if you were following a sat nav. Personally it s much easier to follow Steve than try to watch a sat nav and manage all the right turns and junctions etc. If you ride and want to get an excellent tour of the island then book this!

What a great experience. With perfect bikes we headed out in the morning to drive around the island. In the morning it was steep hills and twisting and turning all around the mountains. Great start of the day, eventhough a bit scary at times. We changed the route a bit after lunch, according to our wishes. Steve listened to our wishes and made it possible to have a great day. Great social guy who is having the time of his life on his bike, and made a living out of it. We had a great experience and would definitely recommend it to people who want to drive at Madeira. Do not drive on your own, you will never get the amazing experience that we had today!!

Had two days with Steve while on vacation on Madeira. Both days riding were top notch with good roads, photo stops and refreshments. Steves knowledge of the island is excellent and his tours always managed to throw up surprises even though Ive been to the Island several times. The bikes are well maintained and totally appropriate for these roads with their steep inclines and switchbacks, I only managed to get into a higher gear than 4th when we were returning to Funchal at the end of a days riding. Take a tour with Steve and you remove the stress of navigating around the island and you will also know that the bike is appropriate for the conditions and is well maintained. My advice would be to book a day tour early in your holiday because there is no doubt you will want to book another day before you leave.

Brilliant week with Steve amazing vistas and exciting riding. Not for the feint hearted on some of the roads but thats what makes it special. What a place to visit. Cant recommend highly enough, Steve is a wonderful guide/host with great knowledge of this incredible island, as well as choosing the best cafes bars and lunch stop! Took me on some amazing roads that are impossible to describe, youve just got to see it to believe it. Genuinely left grinning from ear to ear.

Great communication from the beginning of my contact with Steve- the owner / operator, Steve offered useful advice and guidance regarding what to see and do on the island and was a considerate and informative guide one my one to one tour, my bike was excellent in every respect- clearly well maintained and gave me confidence on both mountainside and freeway riding, Steve caters for all riding experience levels and can help with any questions you might have, a real gentlemen.

Such a nice and professional man. He gave me everything, from different types of helmets, gloves and even padded jeans. Gave me loads of info about the bike and the island. How to drive safely there etc. All you need to know. And he has very affordable prices. Oh yeah, and the bikes he offer are absolutely amazing for the roads on the island. And he takes well care of them. I had such a good time and can recommend him big-time. Freedom!

Nothing to fault here. The bikes are well-prepared for Madeiran travel and will cope with any situation. Steve the proprietor has enough life experience to avoid having any point to prove and is the sort of person you would choose to go riding with in the UK. The island scenery and roads amply reward just about any excursion you choose to make (although Steve s local knowledge justifies a guided tour) and the weather is a nice bonus. Book with complete confidence.

Totally recommend this as a brilliant way to access the mountains, the coast scenery and to enjoy fabulous roads on a bike. The NS700s are responsive and extremely easy to take hairpins and also need minimal gear changing.. unlike my Tenere . They are nippy too and fine if you have a bit of fast road to do. Steve kindly provided a helmet and jacket and I brought gloves, boots and an under jacket as it was pretty chilly up high in the mountains. An excellent day,plenty of good challenging riding and coffee and pastel de nata stops in awesome locations.. do it !

A quick review for Steve and the First Class motorcycle hire and guiding service he is providing. My wife and I visited Madeira during mid-February and we were keen to see/visit parts of the island hidden from the main tourist track. We werent disappointed! The bike was well maintained, and delivered promptly to the collection point, near to the C7 museum, so very easy to find. I am assured that the pillion seat, with cushioned back rest, was very comfortable...We went high into the mountains (a little too high for my liking, but thats just me!) and stopped for coffee at just the right point, i.e. when your bum is starting to make the request... We rode for a several hours without seeing another vehicle, and when we did pass locals on foot, they were all keen to wave and smile. Lunch was on the North of the island, and again was planned perfectly with regard to a break time. The food was simple and much cheaper than wed experience in Funchal, so another bonus. After lunch we returned to Funchal via more high-up, remote roads, before descending into what felt like a busy city centre to park the bikes up. The scenery was stunning and the day was the highlight of my holiday. I highly recommend...

Great experience! Steve picked us up at our hotel and brought us into Funchal to pick up the bike. My wife loved the top box with the padded backrest on the Honda NS700. The bike was great. Im about 56, so the lower seat height compared to some other bikes was welcome. There are some great roads on Madeira, but getting out of Funchal and heading east involved really steep bumpy streets, so be careful. We had the bike for three days and will be back to ride some of the places we missed!

Hired a bike for 4 days in February. This was the first time riding outside the UK. So glad I decided to have a guided tour for two of the days. Steve immediately put me at ease with his relaxed and friendly style. Honestly the best experience I ve had on a bike. For the other two days, Steve provided detailed route guides for my phone that were easy to follow and explore. Steve s knowledge of the local weather and conditions were essential when deciding which day was best to go to the highest mountains. Madeira is fantastic for riding, easy to fly to and great riding weather all year round.

Nothing is too much trouble to ensure his customers have a great time. My wife and I went to Madeira on a motorcycle holiday for a week where we met Steve Ballington owner of Madeira Motorcycle Tours. He provided us with 2 well maintained Honda NC700X bikes, delivering to our hotel in Funchal. Not only that but he actually lowered one of them for my wife as it was a little tall for her. Result. During the holiday he kindly sent us route information and recommendations on navigating the Island to best advantage. We had an amazing time, in no small part due to Steves help and advice. Having never visited Madeira before, my partner and I were keen to hire a motorbike to tour and use it as and when. Its always difficult to trust reviews, however previous reviews for Madeira Island Motorbike Tours offered much comfort. Steve not only provides a good service, he goes beyond that. We hired him on the first day to guide us around; he surpassed our expectations, affording us with his local history & knowledge and guiding us across the island to various sites. On the days thereafter he continued to text various sights and attractions of the island to visit. His motorcycles are well maintained, clean and very much suitable for the challenging and technical roads & hills of the island. I can do nothing but agree with the previous reviews. Bike was well suited for Madeiran roads, well maintained and everything went very smoothly. Great roads, stunning views, awesome experience. Steve was an excellent guide and great company. Recommend hiring him to take you to the best roads and places, but he can also provide good tips and routes due to his local knowledge.

If you are a biker and you happen to find yourself in Madeira, a day out exploring the island with Steve from Madeira Motorcycle Tours is an absolute must. As a relatively new rider, I was a little nervous about riding a strange bike in a strange country, but Steve immediately put me at ease. He has a fantastic laid back personality and he knows the island inside out. The NC700 s are absolutely perfect for the terrain and although not overly powerful, they have plenty of low down grunt which is what you need to pull you up the numerous hills. They are immaculate and mine had a lovely after market exhaust which sounded ace!! The scenery really is to die for, unlike anywhere else, with it s lush greenery and jaw dropping ocean views. There are plenty of stops for photo opps and Steve also knows some great places to stop for coffee and some snap!! This is an experience that I will definitely be doing again and I m already looking forward to the next one. Highly recommend

Most enjoyable day out riding with Steve. I hired the Honda NC750, in great condition fitted with a top-box suitable to hold additional clothing and my camera. A jacket, helmet and wet weather gear also supplied too although I didn t need the wet weather gear .. the weather was glorious since Steve s knowledge of Madeira and it s the micro-climates meant he selected a suitable dry day with great visibility on the mountain roads. The chosen route into the mountains and coastal roads certainly added to the days experience all for a good value price. Our coffee and lunch stops were fun with great company too. I m a frequent Motorcyle tourer, and have used several tour companies over the years and can highly recommend Madeira Island motorcycle tours and Steve as your guide. I ll be back for sure!

I can t recommend hiring a bike from Steve highly enough. Firstly the bikes, well maintained and the perfect for the riding the island commands. Secondly Steve himself. His knowledge of the island roads made the trip. I highly recommend doing at least a day with Steve, as his knowledge of the routes, the roads and how to ride them adds so much to the trip. On the days you have a bike on your own, Steve will send you pins to the best roads, suited to your riding and your plans, I was looked after when in person or from afar when I was on my own with the guidance provided by Steve. Lastly, the island itself. WOW!! The roads, the scenery - it s something else. Any biker would do well to pack your kit, give Steve a call, and explore some of the best riding, in the best scenery I ve ever experienced. Enjoy!!!

Great service. Needed a bike last minute. Came with a helmet, jacket and gloves. Included top box and phone holder which others charge for. Great bike, well maintained. Steve even delivered my wife s phone back to us after she had left it in the jacket. Definitely one to use for bike hire.

As for Steven the owner - very polite and welcoming man! We booked a day tour with him and we loved it. He showed us many beautiful places that I m sure we would have missed it if we decided to go on our own. For those who never drove on these type of roads, it might be a good idea to consider having Steve as a tour guide for a day or two to familiarise yourself with the Madeira s roads and then continuing discovering places by yourselves. We loved our holiday! And when we will come back we will choose to explore the Island on these motorcycles again.

Jessica and I hired a bike from Steve for two days on impulse as we wanted to explore the Island. On day one we rode alone but Steve gave us map coordinates that took us to where we wanted to go on roads that he knew we would enjoy. The well maintained Hondas that he runs are perfect for the job as the upright riding position makes the bike comfortable for both rider and pillion, enabling both to enjoy the views and watch the road/sat nav. We enjoyed the route so much that we were pleased that we had decided to book a tour with Steve on day two. Not only was Steve a pleasure to ride with but also showed us some breathtaking roads and views that we may not have found on our own. The view down into Nuns Valley is staggering. With coffee stops along the way there really is nothing not to like about this experience. Not only highly recommended but we would not hesitate to book again. Steve tells me that he can ride for days without going on the same route twice!!

Undoubtedly the best way to explore the island! The motorcycles are in great condition and easy to handle on twisty roads. Steve knows all the great spots to see, eat and drink at ;) Recommended!

Originally planned to hire a motorbike, but ended up to participate two guided tours. And that was the best decision of my holiday; crossroads are scetchy and Google Maps is not even close Steves local knowledge from riders viewpoint. Strong recommendation

We had a lovely experience, lots of fun. We only rented the bike, but Steve is very friendly and gave very helpful informations. The bikes are very well maintained. We rented jackets and gloves too, lots of sizes and again, everything looks as new, comfy and decent quality. Would highly recommend to any experienced motorcycle enthusiast, the island is beautiful, the roads are in amazing state, even in remote places. I would recommend getting a tour with Steve though as small roads can be very tricky and bigger roads can be busy or a bit boring. Thanks!

Steve was an incredible tour guide! Great company and very helpful! Showed me some of the best spots on the island for sitting back and relaxing to taking scenic photos of the lush nature. Helped me see all the sights of the island and was very relaxing and enjoyable to ride on the madeira roads with him. Lent me a jacket helmet and gloves and had an incredible understanding of the climate and changing conditions on the island. The stops for lunch and coffee really were a treat on the trip! Thank you for the over the top incredible experience Steve! Will definitely be trying to convince more of my friends to come here on the tours!

Madeira? A nightmare of a travel but Steve outweighted it all or even more than it. We planed a trip to Porto Santo and further to Madeira. Unfortunately we arrived at Porto Santo 26 hours late and lost our complete baggage incl. all the safety gear. As we left Porto Santo our baggage still missing, I called Steve for alle the safety gear with only about 4 hours in advance and it wasnt a problem for him equipping us. At our first day Steve offered us to take part in a tour into the alpine heart of Madeira. At first I was a little bit sceptical because my girl was born in German Democratic Republic, so she learned Russian at school instead of English but it wasnt a problem. At the tour Steve was very considerate not to overwhelm one of us. The roads at Madeira Island are the steepest ones I have ever seen, only riding off-road is even more challenging. After this we hired the motorcycles for three more days to make the island on our own. And yes, the bikes were in perfect technical condition and fitted right with their low center of gravity for this island. So, when you search for a special adventure or at least for motorcycles fits right to the island and your physical requirements, my girl needed a very low seat high, give Steve a try, you will not regret it.

Just got back after a mini-break to the beautiful island of Madeira, made all the more fun by exploring on a Honda NC700 courtesy of Steve at Madeira Island Motorcycle Tours. As Steve himself says they are the perfect bike for the island. I had a couple of hairy moments on the twisty, hilly roads and Im sure I would have dropped my own bike, but the low centre of gravity on these bikes makes them super stable and great for newbies to Madeira. Whilst not the cheapest on the island, the bikes are in super good condition and very well maintained, and come with phone holder, charger etc. I also took up Steves suggestion of taking a tour with him on the first day. Im glad I did! I felt a lot more confident as after Steve held my hand for the first day, and he has an excellent knowledge of the idiosyncrasies of Madeiras roads and some of the hazards you may encounter (just get him talking about rockfalls ). Hes also a super friendly guy with some stories to tell. Id highly recommend booking with Steve, and if youre a Madeira noob like me you would definitely benefit from a day out with him to learn about the island

I had a great time riding around those windy, steep, breathtaking Madeira roads on Steves Honda NC700X! The landscape is amazing, your view changes all the time as you ride up the mountains on one side, and descend on the other - its really incredible! Steve is a wonderful tour guide and a really nice guy to hang out with. He knows the island like his pockets and gives great tips on how to ride around in Madeira, where the roads can be challenging. We did two tours together and went down roads I would have never found on my own. It was also very relaxing and enjoyable to just follow him and not have to worry about navigation. On the days I rode by myself he shared a few coordinates of places where to stop for beautiful views, which was super helpful. I definitely recommend renting a bike & doing a tour with him - it will make your Madeira biking experience 100 times better!

Well its all been said by so many reviewers, and its all true. Had an amazing day out seeing some great areas of the island that Id have never found without Steve. Hes a great guy, friendly, knowledgeable but most of all his riding skill and experience of the local area ensures your dealing with the twists and turns safely. This was a brilliant day, and arranging it was so easy. I had a look at motorcycle hire companies in Madeira a few weeks ago, and Steves web-site has a superb video of one of his guided tours, helped with drone footage. I e-mailed and he replied immediately with costs, and we switched to Whatsapp to make the final arrangements and get answers to questions on what gear to bring - none, all provided ! The bike was in perfect condition and we had a full day of guided riding round the island using interesting back roads and seeing fantastic scenary. I was riding solo, but one of the other bikes had a rider with pillion, and the pace was perfect for all of us. Next time Im back, Ill be doing it again !

Just returned to the UK after a break in Madeira. Before, I left the UK, I contacted Steve of Madeira Motorcycle Tours, and arranged for Steve to meet me at a cafe near the CR7 museum, at the water front of Funchal. He is a pleasantly layed back, and very amenable fella,and allowed me to take the bike to my accommodation and bring back a week later at no extra charge.(Top Bloke) as I was staying on the North coast at Sao Jorge, about 30 km away. I took Steves advice, and the next morning he escorted me and the HONDA NC750X, on a tour of the island, so that I got comfortable with the riding and traffic of the island. The roads can be as technical as your skill level, but Steve will guide you to your experience level. The views are stunning, some of the mountain roads are challenging, but the experience is memorable. Yes I can recommend Steve.and his Madeira Motorcycle Tours.. Tim Evans.

My brother and I rented two bikes from Steve, we had a days tour with him, on which we were shown some amazing roads and view points, all at a very comfortable and relaxing pace. We had two more days on the bikes to ourselves, which Steve very kindly provided us with two suggested routes and points of interest. We added a couple of bits of our own in and we were just blown away with the whole experience. We are already looking to return!!

My partner and I highly recommend Madeira island motorcycle hire. We had a fabulous time touring the island of Madeira. Steve, motorcycle hire proprietor, gave us some tours, making some great photos of us when we were out touring, which was really nice and added immensely to the whole experience. We made our our trips as well. Steves knowledge of the island is excellent, and he gave us really good useful advice to use when biking around the island, and navigating the unique and interesting roads of Madeira. Such a fabulous trip, one we shall be repeating again.

Didn t expect to have a spare day and, as a biking nut I knew exactly how I wanted to spend it. I have motorcycle Colorado and Canadian rockies, Smokey Mountains, Pyrenees, Dolomites, Black Forest, Cape Coast, Gold Coast, NZ South Island This day is up there as one of the very best I have had on a bike. Couldn t recommend this enough! I hired a bike from Steve for 5 days during a recent trip to Madeira (Aug-21). Despite not booking ahead, Steve managed to sort us out with a bike, helmets, gloves and jackets. Steve s bikes are clearly well looked after and well maintained (unlike some on the island) and the NC700 was absolutely perfect for seeing all the amazing viewpoints. We had such a great trip and the rental process was faultless. You re a top bloke Steve!

Highly recommended bike hire. The bikes are well maintained, comfortable to ride, ideal for the island s steep winding roads and have plenty of storage space with the front trunk and top box. Steve the owner was very helpful with suggestions for the best spots to visit and routes to take - valuable local knowledge from a keen rider. All in all a very honest and fair business - no hidden extra costs or surprises, I cannot fault the experience.

Wir haben 2 Touren zu je einer Seite der Insel gemacht, beide waren wirklich hervorragend! Die ausgewählten Orte und Straßen waren wirklich super ausgewählt und teilweise echte Geheimtipps! Die Anlieferung des Motorrads zum Hotel hat super geklappt und die gesamte Kommunikation per Mail (auf Englisch) war stets problemlos. Das Motorrad war ebenfalls sehr gut und für die Gegebenheiten vor Ort echt perfekt geeignet. Der Guide (Steve) macht das ganze wirklich mit viel Leidenschaft, absolute Empfehlung!

We rented a bike for 5 days from Steve and had a fab experience. The bike was perfectly suited to the roads with a lot of low down grunt. The roads are almost like being in the alps with fantastic twisty mountain passes with amazing views. Steve s suggested routes were great and we managed to see so much. We will definitely do it again!

I d thought I d write a glowing review, however due to all the previous reviews, there s not much more I can add, other than I d recommend at least hire Steve as guide for the first day s riding. His insight and knowledge of the island took us to some places we would have otherwise overlooked - and they were some truly stunning views and wonderful roads. Also, it s a lot easier getting out of Funchal with someone who knows where their going. One thing not on previous reviews - the bike has USB charge point and phone holder - it s the little touches that make your holiday one to remember. Thanks for all your help - we ll be back again. Found Madiera Island Motorcycle Hire after looking on Facebook. It was a last minute thing and l was lucky Steve could accommodate us. Very nice, genuine type of guy. He went on another bike and showed us a bit of the island and an awesome view at Nuns Valley and Pico de Arieiro. We hired the SatNav and went on the coastal road 2nd day by ourselves. Beautiful. Thousands of twists and turns. Roads empty. Absolutely reccomend. I would say this is a must do activity.

Hired an NC700 for 2 days. Ideal bike for the job 2-up. Used own jackets and walking boots for safety and fitted our intercom system to helmets provided. Wished it had been longer but managed to see most of the West and North, chopping between the brilliantly twisty old roads and new fast expressways. Best way to see Madeira by far. Steve is a relaxed and very helpful guy to deal with. Pick up and return very smooth and use of his map and satnav ideal. Can t fault Madeira Island Motorcycle Hire or the experience - go for it!
