I had a very good experience with Budget car rental in Lagos. The receptionist Jonathan was friendly and answered my questions patiently. I had to extend the car rent several times over almost a month as mine was in the garage. The extension could easily be done by phone, no need to go to their office like with another car rental I used before. The car was very nice, almost new, again much better quality and newer than from the other car rental. The rental price was very affordable. No problem at all when returning the car. I would always use Budget car rental in Lagos again and can highly recommend their service.

STAY AWAY!!!! You will thank me for it! It's a SCAM. I've rented dozens of cars before in North America without issue. First time doing it in Europe (Lagos, Portugal) and it's a fraudulent joke IMO. The front desk talks a good game "Sir we have pictures of all the existing damages on file so you don't need to inspect it". Well if you do decide to rent there, inspect the hell out of every micro paint chip, scratch, nick, scrape, scuff or dent (and take copious pictures, I'm not kidding) because they will absolutely scour over it (that same front desk smooth talker - I wonder if he gets a cut) and claim, (after the fact and once you don't have the car anymore) that there is damage (however minuscule, inadvertent or manufactured) and charge your credit card after the fact. So maybe, if a rock pops up from the car in front of you and hits your fender, that small knick will put you back a cool 200-300 Euros charged to your card. Is it worth the risk? As others have mentioned, dealing with the head office to get proof of the damage seems like a nightmare. Especially if you are a tourist and have left the region or the country when this additional amount is charged to your credit card (to which they have unfettered access). I will try to contest with them but my repayment will be to help you avoid this place. Who knows, each of their cars could be paid 5 times over with these small time "tactics" not to use other words. In my opinion, try other car rental companies than Budget/Avis in Lagos, for your sake.

SCAMMED!! DON’T BOOK HERE!! I returned my car after 2 days of no incident, and they charged me €350 for damages. Took over 2 months of reaching out to see proof and finally they sent pictures of the tiniest scratches through blurry photos. Will be disputing the charges.

SCAMMERS! we returned our car after 1 day without any damage, and they charged us $600USD a month later for “damages. “ they were unable to provide proof of the damage for months, and in the end, sent us only blurry pictures of tiny scratches on the car, taken at night, so you can’t really see. My impression is that this location (maybe budget in general) does this to tourists to steal their money. Will be disputing with my credit card. DO NOT BOOK HERE.

I picked up a Renault on Tuesday. Fernando was super nice and explained everything in detail. Also pointed out a few things without being intrusive. The pickup took less than 10 minutes. A short waiting time must be taken into account because there were already customers there and only one counter was open. An update for the return will come in a few days. Return: back to Fernando, very professional, took less than 8 minutes. Top. Very happy again.

Professional and friendly, fair conditions. We had previously rented the car from Check24. The rental has 2 counters and there is a lot of demand, so there may be a waiting time at peak times. But this is also due to the detailed explanations from the staff. The car was new, clean and of the reserved class. Damage to the paintwork in the entrance caused by a jammed belt buckle was not calculated because the Renault's belt tensioner sometimes got stuck. But we had fully comprehensive insurance without self-service anyway. If you want to avoid stress when returning, you should invest these additional euros. Conclusion: Recommendation - I cannot confirm older reviews.

Avis/Budget rip-off in Lagos! Definitely use another provider, they are friendly at first. When you bring the car back, they meticulously look for scratches in order to make an insurance claim. In my opinion, completely unnecessary, as these scratches cannot be repaired afterwards anyway and were minimal. It's better to go to another provider!

This was a wonderful car rental experience. I have to give special compliments to Fernando who, in my opinion, is and absolutely awesome employee of Budget and deserves tons of praise and a definite raise! He is eloquent in the way he speaks to customers, kind in his demeanor, wonderful and thorough at explaining everything there is to know, and patient with any questions. Truly a stand out guy you are lucky to have on your team. We received a beautiful Toyota hybrid car and had no issues extending our rental for a day with a drop off in another city. Fun fact- there is also after hours key drop at this conveniently located location in Lagos, Portugal. Thank you!
