Charged me almost $500 euros for a faint scratch on the bumper that they probably won't even bother to fix. Absolute crooks. Also, note that they are closed from 1-2:30 and have no key drop. I forgot this and arrived at 1:30 for a 2pm train, which I had to miss. Go to the rental car at the airport instead.
They charged me additional fees one month after the lease. With no expanation what for. What a scam. If you are thinking of renting here; read the reviews and save yourself the hassle. Don't!
Big scammers - extremely dodgy operation. Within 15 minutes of leaving we received an incident report for pre existing damage with an already produced quote for damages. In 15 minutes? They are running a scam to charge you for existing damage to their cars. The so called owner (David) appears to own other franchises in Portugal (refer to Faro reviews), this is clearly a set up to fleece customers out of money for non existent damage after they have dropped off the vehicle. They don’t respond to emails nor provide any supporting information (I’m still waiting for my rental agreement). Dispute the charges and refer this business to the Portuguese and EU consumer authorities, I have with mine and already received a response. It’s blatant fraud and the Avis Budget Group should be ashamed to have such individuals attached to their brand.
Charged €275 for a minor scuff on one rim, i feel they do this to everyone who doesn’t want their insurance, as soon as they told me about the charge they said “just put it through your credit card insurance to get reimbursed” will never rent from avis again.
This was truly the worst experience at an Avis I’ve ever had. The people here are running a scam. When I returned the car in the SAME condition I received it, they charged me $1300 for “damages.” Not only were these there at the beginning, but they were paint chips (no dents or scratches). They just refused to listen to anything, ignored us completely, and gave no credence to the fact that I had done 50 other Avis rentals without an incident. Can’t think of a worse set of people I’ve interacted with. Don’t rent from here. They ruined my vacation, stole my money, all because of a fault of their own — not recording the existing “damage” that was there.
We dropped the car off at this location after having rented it in Porto. The service was fast and friendly. The attendant noticed that I was wrongly billed for an upgrade and deleted it from the final invoice. This is my second time renting from Avis in Portugal and I will certainly do it again.
They are not a rental car company, the are thieves that use any suppose damage to charge you crazy charges. example on 80 euros charge they charge you 250 euros. Avoid this company, I was travel agent for 10 years and this company is the worst
Agent when picking up the car marked down all the existing damage but then failed to submit it, showing zero damage when there was scratches and dents on nearly every panel. When I returned it the claimed all these little dents and scratches were new. (46,000km car from Lisbon) they charged $2,000! All they have to do is go back and look at the records any others time it was returned previously and they would see the damage already existed. Instead they stole my money and ruined my vacation. I could not get anyone on the phone. Surely on purpose. Thanks for ruining my entire trip and stealing my money, you criminal company!

Quelle déception ! Tout se passe bien jusqu à la réception. Au retour, il manque l essuie glace arrière de la Jogger. J ai demandé la preuve qu il était bien là quand j ai pris la voiture; j attends toujours. Avis Lisbonne ma facture 265 pour un essuie glace qui coûte 10 !! Et qui se clippe en 3 secondes . donc pas besoin d immobiliser la voiture. J ai réclamé. Aucun retour satisfaisant ! J attends toujours. Je suis assez déçu par ce principe de matraquer le client au moment de la restitution. Je loue régulièrement chez Avis en France et je n ai jamais de tel problème. Visiblement, c est le principe d Avis Lisbonne quand je regarde les avis.

Writing a review a few years later. Why you ask? Because I will be traveling to Portugal and these con artists showed up as a suggestion for a rental... Again My experience with them was absolute garbage, we arrived to Lisbon only to be welcomed by a vehicle that did not fit the description, fine we overlooked that issue though we had a baby with us. We eventually got a vehicle that fit the description that was just returned. They did the walk around and everything appeared fine so we drove off only to find out that the clutch felt slightly off. We ignored it thinking that maybe it was normal. One day later the car stalled in the highway. We got it towed and called a cab. We got a new rental and eventually returned to the United States. Weeks later we received a credit card from them for a repair. AFTER WE HAD LEFT THE COUNTRY??? So no, i cannot recommend those con artists and would rather rent from a homeless fisherman than that scam of a agency.
Pessimo atendimento, funcionário agressivo e rude no trato com clientes. Sistema não funcionava, loja fechada antes da hora impossibilitando o levantamento do carro. Evite, corra, procure o concorrente!!

my card was overcharged for inexistent damage
Like many others here, I had a horrible experience dropping off the car. The car we got had plenty of damage, so I took a few photos of them beforehand. When we dropped the car off, we were told we were responsible for SO MANY of these damages! Basically every single dent and scratch my photos didn t cover, we were held accountable for them. I didn t remember to take photos of the wheels, despite some scratches visible in some pictures, and of course we were held accountable for more rim scratches, even though we ve never even parked the car near a sidewalk. We were also held accountable for a whole missing rear bumper , when the towing cap fell off while driving because of previous bumper damage. 500 for a new bumper when all we did was drive the car? Why am I being held accountable for other peoples careless driving? Everything about this felt scammy, unfriendly and unprofessional. I particularly love the idle fee , a massive fee they charge you because when you have the car, no one else can rent it so it s considered idle Avis, that s called renting a car . Avoid this place, and avoid Avis if you can.

No alquilen aca! son unos chantas! el precio que figura es menos de la mitad del que terminas pagando. Te dicen que está incluido el seguro y cuando llegas a buscar el auto te dice que tenes que pagarlo y cuesta más de lo que te cotizaron por el auto. Tenía que pagar 450 dólares y terminé pagando casi mil!! todavía me queda esperar cuánto me van a cobrar por usar el sistema para los peajes. La peor experiencia alquilando un auto!
We had good experience at delivery, although I wish the staff present at the pickup wouldve been able to explain the higher than expected credit hold. The drop off was seamless and quick. The staff at this location is really professional.

Méfiez-vous de toutes les agences de location au Portugal. Se sont pour beaucoup des escrocs. Ils vous mettent des suppléments, des options...et le pire des embrayage à près de 2000
Renting at the Lisboa Oriente Train Station was relatively seamless. Only caution is to book stick or automatic at the time of reserving. Up hard at counter for automatic was huge! Staff were pleasant!!

Location pour les vacances. Premiers échanges avec l accueil au top ! Le lendemain après avoir récupéré la voiture, on se rend compte qu un pneu est crevé. Nous décidons alors de retourner à l agence pour voir ce qu il était possible de faire. En moins de 15min une nouvelle voiture était déjà prête pour nous ! Nous avons pu partir sereinement et remettre le véhicule à la fin sans soucis. Un grand merci au personnel de cette agence :)
We booked our car rental online and went to the store to get our car. The person behind the counter was not trying to upsell me anything, just asked once if I need coverage for the car, and I said my credit card has primary coverage, and that was it. There is a $300 hold on my credit card until a few days after I returned my car, seems like its usual Portugal rental procedure if you dont get their coverage. The scary part in the beginning, when they bring your car out, was that they check and label all damages on the car into their iPad, so that they know what damages are already there, and if they see new ones when you return it, youll be charged for it. I took my phone out and I took all the pictures of damages too just in case. I do like that they check so thoroughly in the beginning, so that I know they dont miss anything and mistakenly charge me for. When I returned the car in the end, the process was actually very smooth, the same lady who checked my car is checking it also during the return, but this time shes doing it faster and said everything looks okay. I signed out the contract and that was it. I heard a lot of scary stories about renting car in Portugal, and those local rentals give you very cheap price in the beginning but upsells you a lot of stuff in the end. Id go safe and rent from a known company Avis and it didnt disappoint
Je déconseille fortement cette agence. Des frais de près de 250 euros nous ont été chargé pour un dommage à peine visible sur une jante, dont nous nétions pas responsables. Les dommages étaient probablement déjà là lorsque nous avons récupéré la voiture à Porto. On nous a demandé si on avait des photos qui prouvaient que nous nétions pas responsables des dommages. Nous avions pris des photos lorsque nous avions récupéré la voiture, mais aucune à 30 cm de la roue ou avec un appareil photo à haute résolution, sur laquelle on pouvait clairement voir le dommage. Cest de larnaque !
This location is hard to find (lack of signage, and other vendors were unaware), but once found they were professional and thorough in their check-in/out process...unfortunately, very different than the Faro Airport location, which is causing confusion and invoice issues, as the process at Faro is non-existent. I do wish to recognize that the Faro location was excellent in picking up the original vehicle that had a flat tire, and arranging transportation to pick up the exchange vehicle. Having these charges and lack of information is one of the most frustrating issues when travelling to another country....and while I understand each country may have its nuances, communication and customer service is universal (it is why there are additional employment opportunities in the hospitality industry). This star rating is a reflection of the Oriente Do Railway location and not Avis Faro Airport.

Location d une fiat 500 le 30/09/23, prise de véhicule l agent ne regarde pas sous la voiture et en la restituant le 2/10/23 l agent se glisse sous le véhicule à droite uniquement et trouve une rayure ., finalement après une houleuse explication nous disent ne pas retirer la caution et montre la ligne de la facture à 0 , mais la caution de 300 a été débitée !!! Vous me faite vomir. Vous donnez une mauvaise image de votre pays. Je ne vais pas rester là.
if you are after customer service and assistance dont use this company. I booked them online and pre-paid. 3 days before arriving in Lisbon one of their reps called me 3 times about upgrading the insurance I said no, Ill review it when I get to lisbon. Got to lisbon late at night, gave them my card and grabbed the card, next day realised there was eur2,000 charged to my card, their phone rep added the insurance without me approving it. I called their Lisbon airport desk for 2 days straight, no one picked up. So I had to drive back to lisbon airport (40mins) just to go to the Avis desk and ask for that extra insurance I did not ask for be removed. The next issue was a few days after returning the car I received a charge of eur80 which related to parking with that same car which was no longer in my possession, another customer had used the car registered to a parking app I used and I coped the charge. I contacted Avis and ask/begged they charge their customer for that parking and pass the money back to me as I didnt incur the cost, I showed my rental agreement, bank statement, etc. They refused to do anything and to the point their customer rep on email said go speak to your lawyer. Disgusting company.
Got to the office and got charged another fee for insurance after being told at booking time that we were fully paid up. Agent said the additional charge was in the Finer fine print! Terrible experience at the end as well, after leaving prescription reading glasses in the glovebox of rental car. Tried to make contact within an hour of drop off. Absolutely no response despite at 15 days of calling, emailing and 2 taxi trips to the office to locate the glasses. Still no response to date. Will never hire off this company again.
I had one of the worst experience with Avis during my Portugal-Spain trip. I wanted the 7- seater which I booked months in advance. And I was given the only option as electric vehicle. I dint bother at that time as I was told that the range for full charge is 350km+. However, it was close to 200km only. I had to keep charging every couple of hours. It almost ruined my trip. On top of this, they charged me additionally 150 and dint even communicate what the charges are for. I would never ever recommend this location to anyone.
Pessoal muito atencioso e solícito, porém para devolução do veiculo pode ser complicado para estacionar próximo. Nosso veículo estava bastante riscado e com amassados na porta que causava ruído com o vento.

Knowingly, they initially gave me a car with a non-working air conditioning system. They did find me another car with a working a/c. After my rental, the invoice generated showed the price in euros. I thought all was good, but when I received my credit card bill they had charged me an extra 5% for currency conversion. I was never given an opportunity to opt out of their 5% conversion scam. Avis Lisbon Oriente is a mess.

Nous avons eu une camionnette au lieu du monospace demandé et avons perdu une journée de vacance sans parler des péages et essence car La portière ne fermait pas à clé et il nous ont balladé entre différents avis! Et tout cela car le loueur n a fait aucune vérification et nous a remis une voiture qu il a dû trouver dans ses stocks car il n avait rien d autre à nous proposer
HOW TO DROP OFF YOUR CAR: The Avis office is at the end of the taxi line. To drop off the car, you need to: 1) Get on to Avenida Berlin 2) Enter the same driveway that taxis are waiting on, then drive to the end of that driveway 3) Park as close to the side of the driveway as you can and walk into the Avis office.

We rent an economy car for 10 days, with a pickup in this agency and a return in Faro. Overall it was good, although a bit pricey. The car was very basic (Peugeot 208), almost new, clean, no gps, underpowered but it was fine for our trip along the ocean. The staff at this agency was friendly, they clearly explained the contract, the conditions and the price. Pickup was fast. The options seem too expensive to us. The device for the toll road was 7 euros per day. Considering the tolls are only a few euros this is not a fair price. We didnt take the device and it was ok, but you have to go pay the tolls to the post office, which is inconvenient. Given the device is very cheap, AVIS should consider including it is their base price (for free), it would be a better experience.
Rental car from Budget. Very long waiting times and true impostors. Upon delivery we were told that everything was ok and then without warning we found a charge of 700 on our credit card charged the same day. This is scam.

Bella banda di furbi.. Per un graffio di 1.5 cm che è possibile togliere con un Poco di pasta abrasiva, 215 .. Il personale pessimo: il ragazzo, alla domanda se è possibile fare reclamo ha detto, in pratica, no ;il consiglio che mi ha dato era di fare lassicurazione completa (che costava, alla fine, sempre 200 euro per 3 giorni)e alla fine se ne è andato via senza salutare o senza il minimo segno di interesse verso il cliente.. Pessimo.. E questo il modo in cui fanno i soldi non con laffitto delle auto ma con questi mezzi.. Ai clienti solo la scelta se pagare prima (con lassicurazione) o dopo, con costi per riparazioni enormemente gonfiati che alla fine non verranno mai fatte.. Che dire..mi sono sentito veramente derubato..e trattato in maniera molto differente rispetto al gruppo di portoghesi che ha consegnato la macchina dopo di noi che sembrava avessero lo stesso problema ma che si è risolto con una chiacchierata in portoghese.. attention ils ne font pas de check sérieux de la voiture. jai du leur montrer toutes les rayures et leur faire prendre des photos. le personnel savait tout juste se servir de lappareil portatif pour enregistrer les constats. a quoi servent leurs agents?
O senhor que me fez o atendimento já algumas vezes sempre foi muito simpático (peço desculpa por não me recordar do seu nome...), desta vez excedeu se ao receber o carro 2 minutos após a hora de fecho do estabelecimento (MUITO OBRIGADO) compensando assim a arrogância do seu colega que do lado exterior já me estava a dizer que seria impossível receber a viatura que teria de voltar no dia seguinte não oferecendo sequer a opção de entregar na Avis do aeroporto. Se eventualmente tiverem um atraso como eu podem fazer isso ;).

As we arrive, the lady proposed us to upgrade the car. We did not know what to choose. When we booked the car we asked for a wifi in the car but the lady told us that it was requested only. The thing is they want to sell options and we are at there mercy Insurance, upgrade, Device. It was not simple. I do not recommand
Really diffilcult to find the counter as it is very small. No extra parking space for the rented cars. So best is to park at the side next to the taxi entrance. So at one of the roads between taxis and train station. Then enter the counter which is on one side of the taxi places and give the key to the employee to reparks the car. If you cannot find it, call them. The discription was confusing for me, but it is really difficult to find if you do not know where to look for it.

Hard to find location. Car that you pre-book are not always there. They pretend to upgrade you to smaller or less favourable cars. People next to me booked a station, the lady tried to talk them into a small volvo to safe petrol costs. Similar for us, trying to talk us into a more economical diesel Fiat 500 because we are just the 2. Most annoyingly, standard people seem to smoke in these cars. Very outdated.
