It's super rediculous to be charged an extra fee after I had already returned the car 8months ago ! They even didn't send me any emails to inform about it ,and I don't even know what that fee is for ! I only knew that I was charged according to my bank's information.Totally a thief company
Horrible prices and bad surprises. Here is what you should know : 1/ They charge very expensive prices (>250€ for less than a day of a Nissan Quashqai and 120kms) 2/ They are closed in Sunday afternoon - ok - but no way to drop cars and keys. Very inconvenient. They open at 8 on Monday. You arrive at 7.50, the staff is here but they let you wait outside until 8.03… 3/ They recommended to refill the tank when I picked up the car - sure - as usual. What they don’t tell you is that if you don’t have time or opportunity - they will charge you the FULL tank even if you have used only 7 liters, which was my case. They told me : « it is more interesting for you to refill yourselves ». I expected to pay the fuel with a service charge - not the full tank!!! I rent cars between 15 and 20 times per year. I have comparison references. For that price and so much inconvenience - never again.
Everything went well until I forgot my sunglasses in the car and returned to collect it immediately ( less than one hour after they collect it from my hotel parking ). Guess what was the response ! “there was nothing left in the car”! I am 1000% sure that sunglasses was in the car. I am paying a premium to a company like Avis to have a proper system for everything including the security, lost and found items and all services that you expect from such! I already reported the case . Shame on you Avis!
Do yourself a favour and avoid this location. I was there Oct 20th, only to receive a car that was disgusting, white stain on black seats, smells so bad you couldn't roll the windows back up. When asked for new car, a staff basically yelled at me saying the car is fine. Furthermore, gas was not even full. Had to go to the airport location to switch, the staffs (Great) in the airport location agreed that the car should not have been rented out in this condition. 4-5 hrs easily wasted.
Pick up of our electric car was fine however drop off was a mess. The contract says you can drop off after hours, so we tried to drop off before our flight on Sunday am, however there was no key drop box or any other instructions on where to leave a car. We saw someone going into the Avis at 830 am so we asked if we could give him the key as we needed to leave for the airport (the door said the location opened at 9 am) but the man told us “no he didn’t open til 9 am “ and we asked if we could drop the car to the airport and he said yes, so we did, and we were charged an extra 50 euros. Super inconvenient and unprofessional.
Very good nice experience from begining to the end of our trip car was excellent all the way we ask for automatic car and an automatic car it was very comftable and good to drive , it was more enjoyable our holiday with Avis rental
We rented a car at this location Feb 24-29 during our trip to Portugal. I'm confused as to the ratings here on Google. As a frequent traveller and car renter this location was one of the smoothest I've ever been to anywhere. Top tier crew with top notch service. Highly recommend.
I rented a car from the branch on Marques De Pombal in Lisbon, the car was broken into when my friends and I left it for 30 min in a parking lot close to the Belem Tower. My passport, computer, camera, sunglasses and much more was stolen. Apparently it’s common here but no one warns you. When I returned the car with a broken window Avis staff didn’t even ask about what had happened, they didn’t even make one comment, which means this is clearly a common problem here. There were two more groups of tourists reporting their cars being broken into when we went to submit a report at a police station. All Avis reps. have to tell you when you pick up the car is “hey, don’t leave valuables in the car if you leave it in a parking lot, car break-ins are common”. I’m sure that would save a lot of visitors from experiencing such horrible situation. There are no signs in parking lots warning you either. I will be much more careful in the future but maybe this review will prevent others from having their valuables stolen. That’s the purpose of this note.
Good service, but the car, a hybrid, was delivered with a completely flat battery. In the end, I paid more for a feature that I couldnt use.
They fraudulently attempted to charge us for pre-existing vehicle damage because we did not buy their extra insurance.

Kombi gebucht und Dacia Duster bekommen - das ist niemals ein Kombi! Wir hatten große Probleme, unser Gepäck darin unterzubringen und mussten mit diesem Fahrzeug unseren Urlaub meistern. Sehr unerfreulich, zumal der Stationsmanager uns grinsend ein Fahrzeug unserer Klasse gegen Aufpreis anbot, weil es - anders als von uns gebucht - eine Automatik-Schaltung gehabt hätte. Nie wieder Avis.
Nie wieder Avis. Es wurden ständig Zusatzleistungen angedreht. Und weil wir die nicht angenommen haben, gab es das kleinste Auto. Am Ende mussten wir horrendenes Geld für die Reinigung zahlen, weil ein paar Sandkrümel im Kofferraum waren.

There was a little bit of a wait and the cars aren t ready until your reservation time however when we did come back they did not make us wait in line again and got us our car promptly.

Péssima. Havia locado e pago integralmente o carro pela plataforma discovercars. Aceitei um upgrade mas , como estava sem o voucher, acabei saindo com um carro igual e tive que pagar 160 euros. Reclamei e a justificativa foi que havia assinado o Contrato. Lamentável.

This location is scamming people and trying to make a living from it. This is FRAUD. I didn t see previous reviews before booking but seems this is a habit for them. We had a 4 day rental for 73.83$ that was booked through Priceline. We returned the car 4th day before 12:30 as the location closes at that time. They took it back in a rush and said it was ok, and didn t specify or mention anything about any charge and made us a sign something quickly. Turns out they charged us $760. 1000% more than agreed!!!! They clocked the return into the system 30 minutes later. When I contacted Avis headquarters they agreed this was unreasonable and said they d try to work with the local office. After back and forth for over a month, Avis headquarters finally said they couldn t do anything about it even though this seems unusual as it was the policy of the local office. They asked I try to call the local branch directly. When I tried to call them, it s been impossible to get someone to answer. I then disputed through my credit card who managed to reach them and they think this is ok?!? What kind of business is this?! I m livid and will continue spreading the word about this terrible service and habit your branch seems to have. I would like someone from this branch contact us as soon as possible.

I rented a car from this agency during my vacation in Portugal. The nightmare began as soon as I dropped off the car at the airport: like many others, I was charged an additional 250 for a minor scratch on a rim upon returning the car, which I am certain I did not cause. The size and nature of the damage seemed negligible, yet I was billed for it. Despite my complaints, the response from AVIS was standardized and unhelpful. Future renters, be vigilant and consider documenting the vehicle condition thoroughly before driving off.
Employees should be trained to be more welcoming. They even tried to give me a car with a broken windshield which would have been my fault if I did not see it. They should explain what cars they have for you so you can choose whatever you prefer in the category you reserved. I am critical because I am renting from them each time and want then to get better. So only 4 starts for now.

Nous avons loué une Nissan Qashqai automatique blanche pour une journée. Réservée sur internet, nous avons attendu plus d1 heure, debout, dehors, le véhicule. Avant de la restituer nous mettons de lessence à la station juste à côté (cest un agent qui fait le plein). Et là incroyable: 75 dessence pour 51km parcourus!!! Cest juste IMPOSSIBLE. Au comptoir, Avis ne veut rien savoir. Alors quils ont la preuve de la distance parcourue et la facture dessence. Aucune discussion possible. Nous sommes TRES mécontents de nous être fait enflés. A bon entendeur!
Sou motorista de TVDE e fui a este local deixar uns clientes que iam buscar um carro e como os clientes estavam com bastante bagagem eu parei mesmo na entrada da loja, quando de repente apareceu uma funcionária da Avis aos gritos comigo e disse me que não podia parar ali o carro, eu disse à senhora que iria só demorar um minuto para deixar os clientes que tinham muitas malas e iam para lá buscar um carro, eu estava a apelar ao bom senso da funcionária mas a senhora continuou aos gritos então eu ignorei e descarreguei a bagagem dos clientes que já estavam fora do carro! Não contente a funcionária começou a tirar fotos do meu carro e em seguida apareceu um senhor que se intitulou como gerente de loja, que se dirigiu a mim também de uma forma agressiva a dizer-me que eu não podia parar ali o carro e a ameaçar me! Sinceramente eu não entendo como uma empresa como a Avis consegue ter como funcionários pessoas destas que recebem os clientes desta forma!

Gostei muito do atendimento na retirada e na devolução do carro na Avis / Budjet, a única coisa que não gostei foi que o endereço indicado no documento da reserva, na cidade de Lisboa, correspondia a um endereço onde a Avis estava 4 anos antes, me dificultando localizar o lugar correto
Watch out for this place. We received a car with a ton of scratches and minor damage. Upon driving only a few miles, we got a flat tire so had to return the car. They gave us a downgraded replacement car at the same price then ended up charging another $300 USD for a brand new tire on a small Toyota. After multiple attempts of contacting, they would not do anything about it and continued to hold the stance that they were correct in their assessment. I tried disputing with my credit card company and again Avis refused to refund and said it was my fault with no proof of damage or anything, not to mention a huge markup on the tire. I still have not had it resolved. Stay away from this place and use a different car rental company that doesnt take advantage of foreigners. UPDATE: They still did not provide enough support to make sense of the charge and my credit card company still denied it. So never sign anything upon returning the car with Avis even if it says it is not the final amount. They definitely took advantage of me and looks like they have done the SAME to other customers. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT PEICE OF MIND.
Worst car rental experience. I don t recommend renting in Avis or budget! Lots of hidden surprises, beware of this company. Also we were told that we could extend thru the phone or internet, and in the end they obliged us to drive to one of the stores to extend, making us waste a day of our short trip. It s impossible to reach their stores by phone (nobody answers) and the client attention service is non existent ( they robotically repeat you need to go to one of their stores and that s it) Do not rent here unless you want to be surprised by a much higher price than what you saw online, hidden fees and extra taxes!
Always have a great experience with Avis. Check-in is fast, especially if you have completed the process previously via their website or app, and drop-off is fast as well. Cars are always new and clean. The staff is friendly and amiable. I had some questionable experiences with other rental car companies in the past, but after I moved to Avis, I kept renting with them.

Car from Budget only had 3/8 of a tank of gas at pick-up, and air conditioning did not work. Took most of the trip to get a response to my emails about these problems. In the end, nothing was done or offered for the lack of working air conditioning

Prepaid reservation that showed the price in euros and dollars was not honored. Was told that I had to pay an extra 22 euros to get the car. Since it was the start of my vacation, I felt I had no choice but to pay. Will never use this AVIS location again. While I was there, it happened to another customer that had prepaid and was told they owe extra money to get the car.
Our experience is very very bad. I would like to give it negative rate. First, I got a car with a mirror issue and got a second car three hours later. They never provided an updated contract with correct pick up time. Then, we returned the car according to our 4-day rental. They overcharged us $150 for three hour late. Very poor experience and never again.

Péssima! Muito ruim mesmo. Não aluguem carro nesta unidade. Os atendentes portugueses são extremamente rudes, antipáticos, irônicos e despreparados para atendimento aos clientes. Não bastasse o abominável tratamento que me foi dispensado pelo atendente, me foi entregue um carro velho todo danificado. Aluguei um carro de luxo (Mercedes serie e) e me entregaram uma BMW 418 ano 2007 toda avariada, com diversos amassados, arranhões, sem tampa do porta malas, rodas faltando pedaços. Mesmo reclamando o atendente me achincalhou e disse que eu não tinha opção e caçoou dizendo que já tinha passado meus cartões. Não bastasse o valor que ele passou no meu cartão era superior ao que havia contratado previamente. Foi a pior experiência que já tive com locação de automóvel. Terrible! Very bad indeed. Do not rent a car at this unit. Portuguese attendants are extremely rude, unfriendly, ironic and unprepared to serve customers. As if the abominable treatment given to me was not enough, they handed me an old car that was completely broken up. I rented a luxury car (Mercedes e series) and they gave me a 2007 BMW 418, completely damaged, with several dents, scratches, no trunk lid, wheels missing parts. Even though I complained, the attendant insulted me and said that I had no option and made fun of me by saying that he had already swiped my cards. If that wasnt enough, the amount he put on my card was higher than what I had previously contracted. It was the worst experience Ive ever had with a car rental.

The workers at the counter were very nice, But we ordered one car that could fit We ordered cars that exceeded our requirements, but we received a new car on the one hand but on the other hand it is not suitable for our needs and the driving conditions in the country where we rented (a weak and uncomfortable car for driving in the topography of mountains and valleys)
Make sure to look for hidden scratches, knicks or dents - especially in less obvious parts of the vehicle.
The staff at this Avis location (in town) is phenomenal and super friendly. They go above and beyond in their service delivery, with great suggestions and insights, and make sure that your car rental and travel experience is outstanding. This is the third time I have rented from this location and I plan to use it for future rentals. Well done!
Great check in and quick to get my car at this Avis. Joel was great and even provided me with a nice upgrade for being Avis Preferred. The location is right by the park and shopping mall so it was very convenient to get to be foot. Would highly recommend this Avis.

Also, entgegen der vielen zweifelhaften Bewertungen hier, sind wir als Familie sehr zufrieden mit dieser Avis-Station gewesen. Auch wir haben nicht direkt bei Avis reserviert, sondern über einen Makler bei dem ich fast alles zum Thema Reise buche. Es war etwas günstiger als direkt bei Avis und ich habe die Versicherung des Maklers gewählt. Ich wurde NICHT zum Abschluss einer Avis Versicherung bedrängt wie hier viele schreiben. Was jedoch stimmt, man wird sehr ausführlich darüber informiert, dass man bei Eintreten eines Versicherungsfall in Vorleistung gehen muss und sich dann bei der Fremdversicherung sein Geld zurückholen muss. Das ist logisch und richtig und wurde sehr genau erklärt. Mehr nicht! Wir bekamen ein Elektroauto und alles hat wunderbar geklappt. Wir hatten eine problemlose Tagestour von fast 200km zum Cabo da Roca und diversen Stränden nördlich davon. Alles perfekt und professionell abgewickelt. Wir würden hier immer wieder ein Auto mieten!
Rude staff, horrible service.
Les véhicules sont systématiquement dune catégorie inférieure à celle louée (ex: une 208 alors quune 2008 ou equivalent a été louée) et la prise en charge se fait dans un sous-sol bien sombre où il est impossible de voir les dommages du véhicule (contrairement à la zone de retour où il y a des spots 4000w). Dans un pays qui fonctionne, ce genre dentreprise serait interdit et les dirigeants seraient emprisonnés.

Booked rental with Amex travel as an Avis rental thinking this would be handled by Avis at the PDL airport. Avis outsources actually the rental to Ilha Verde. I paid $950 for this through Amex / Avis. When Ilha Verde printed the bill, the amount they get paid was close to $400. So this means that Avis gets $500 as a middlemen without providing the premium service it should to its customer (speed line, upgrades). Shocking! And on top of that the cars were old and had to change cause the one I got first was a catering car. Plus K got an extra charge of $50 cause I picked up earlier then expected due to flight schedule. Trust has been seriously broken
My reservation was cancelled without notice and I knew that when I was at the counter. Before that we booked a car, the manager of AVIS called us to confirm for premium customers and we changed the name of the driver, the operator asked for all data, driving licence etc, then we received two notifications on digital check-in and the actual contract, so how is it possible that you show up and all is cancelled. Staff at the location does not care about priority stand, but thats ok, what is worse, we were to blame to have this contract cancelled and literally were shown that we are fools. the employee even printed our cancelled contract with numbers, were pointing at the value and declaring that I had to see zero instead of what was printed on your contract, that was outrageous. I do not know, may be our rental was cheap but no customer deserves such an attitude. The only argument was that we changed the name and the employee (who was rude and told me that I was rude just because I showed up) actually called (as he was saying at that moment) the colleague who called me another day and does not confirm that we had the contract anyway. In the meantime my partner made another booking online and we got the car against another contract. That is not the Friday we wanted to have picking our little daughter after such an unfriendly shake. AVIS spent so much time and effort to confirm the contract to call me and talk all the details and finally humiliating me at the pick up point instead of just doing things right. we rent with sixt downtown Lisbon weekly, you should do mystery shopping to see how the guys do their work properly. I also believe you must say to your employees that they are responsible and they are the face of the company as they declare otherwise. This is the worst experience we had for years and definitely the worst customer approach and service you can get.
The agent added services that I explicitly refused when I originally booked the car. I caught some of them and removed them before signing the contract, but missed the full tank protection one (which I also didnt want). The car was in good condition and the service was fairly fast, although there was a line of 5 customers when I started getting served.
I normally bin these surveys as Ive found the car rental sector so unpleasant to deal with historically that I minimize my engagement with them BUT I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience with AVIS this time. I pre-booked a car - 5 seater Seat Ateca - for 10 days in Portugal and despite a shaky start due to congestion at the pick-up location in Lisbon and machine inexplicably refusing to acknowledge my c.c., a senior staff member took over, apologetically sorted everything and even produced the actual car model I had booked (unusual)! Not only that, but I wasnt hassled to purchase add-ons and was only asked if I wanted to purchase additional insurance ONCE!! As a veteran car renter around Europe, this is a first. (OK, I had been asked a couple of times during the pre-booking process but at the office they normally lean on you several more times :)) Anyhoo, got the motor, had a great holiday and returned it to a different location (Airport) with no hassle - was ready with my 360-video taken of car at original delivery to ensure there were no scratches/dents/prangs I could be fingered for but guy who checked me in had a quick look around and just smiled and said Everything is good; the departure gates are that way. Made such a pleasant change from previous experiences e.g. worrying that a small, weird stain on the back seat that you didnt notice is going to cost you 500 to rectify, with the ante upped by suspicious looks from staff as you roll into the drop off location. Im going to give AVIS 8/10 since I do believe there is no point in complaining if you dont acknowledge better service when it is delivered. Ill definitely look to AVIS first the next time I need a car rental.

TOTAL SCAM - do not use AVIS in Portugal - such a shame to the AVIS global brand. I HAD been using for 20 years as a Preferred Customer. The pick up from Pombal was OK, we did a walk through of the exterior & interior that confirmed no preexisting damage & nothing missing from the interior - except that when I returned the Jeep Compass to Lisbon Airport they told me the boot load cover was missing (but it was never there!) but they charged me $600 for it anyway because I cannot prove it was never there. Further my rental was for 2 weeks - they charged me $70 for extra cleaning (my kids ate some crackers) - and then added an extra $450 in miscellaneous charges. Total scam. The guy checking us in told my wife it should be ok, he has insurance - DO NOT USE. Read the reviews for AVIS Portugal
Jeg har aldri blitt behandlet så dårlig som kunde noe sted. Vi hadde avtalt å hente leiebil kl 1230, men da vi kom til utleiestedet kl12 37 ( grunnet problemer med metro) ble vi sendt ut av lokalet og bedt om å komme tilbake etter lunsj kl 1430. Dette til tross for at han hadde to andre kunder i lokalet. Kundebehandler hadde en svært agressiv og truende tone fra første stund og dette var en veldig ubehagelig opplevelse. Den ansatte som hjalp oss etter lunsj var frekk og lot oss ikke stille ferdig spørsmål før vi ble avbrutt og påstod at han visste hva vi skulle spørre om før vi i det hele tatt fikk snakket ferdig. Jeg vil gjøre alt jeg kan for å unngå å bruke Budget igjen.

Finally a rental car agency in Lisbon I can write a 5 star review for! The pick-up was seamless, no extra upselling, honest with the scratches on the car, and even gave us a much nicer car than we had requested. Upon returning it was super easy and the deposit was returned within 48 hours. Overall really nice experience!
Please explain why I have been charged an additional 79 euro over a month after our rental !! I read comments about this so am shocked that this is still happening
Be cautious and prepared. In the booking confirmation email I ve been asked to have Driving license and credit card with me, but on vehicle picking up I have been asked to provide my passport too, which I had with me only by luck. On car return I ve been asked to accept final charge which was around 20Eur. When I asked what it is for they told me that it is Fuel charge, and it is charged when the mileage is above 100km and you do not provide a refuel receipt. First of all, I have never been told that I need to keep my receipts, second of all, I haven t been asked about the receipt - they just assumed I don t have it and hoped I accept it without asking. Luckily I had my receipt and they removed the charge without even looking at the receipt. Also there was 2,5 EUR charge because during booking I paid in another currency, but it was in the contract I signed during car collection and I couldn t be bothered. But it seems fishy as well. Therefore I recommend to be extra cautious with this company.
Absolutely disgraceful! We came to collect the car and the agency didnt indicate that they would be closed at 12:30, we came at that time. They refused to give us the car even though we already paid for it So now we have to wait 2 hours and we are late for our planned trips and lost the money and tickets for certain excursions! When I asked what are we supposed to do, I was told, I dont know, do whatever you want. I havent experienced such awful customer service maybe ever!

Seul bémol, on signe le contrat avant de faire le tour du véhicule (mais les défauts inscrits au contrat correspondaient tout à fait à la réalité)

I am in the budget Fastbreak group. At most budget rental offices. This means you are in your car in five or 10 minutes. At the Budget/Avis rental office in downtown Lisbon. It took one hour and a half to get my car. There, they give preference to Avis customers and make budget customers wait in line with people who do not have a reservation. Avoid this place. If you were renting a car in Lisbon to go out of town yes taken Uber to the airport where the rental business is much less chaotic.

Procuramos por ajuda na loja da Castilhos, péssimo atendimento, não sabem nada e não mostraram boa vontade, nos mandaram trocar novamente o carro no aeroporto. Um desastre! Nunca mais!

Horrible service. Charged me for damage that was on the car when I rented, showed the representative the video from rental day and he said it was really there, he wrote that the total amount due is the rental only and then they just took money from my credit card of both the rental and the damage. Sent an email once I saw the charge and they didn t answer yet. Definitely never renting with them again, advising everyone to do the same.

The Avis Portugal team contributed to our wonderful vacation. We rented 3 cars in 3 different locations and the local teams at each were wonderful (including the Porto team that called me just to check on our satisfaction). All 3 cars were great - new, clean and ready for us at our scheduled times. Rates for each rental were more than fair. Obrigado Avis Portugal. Scam. Trust the other reviews and don t pick up a car at this location. Your online quote and actual quote on arrival will be about 40% different. They ll skim through the terms and conditions to confuse you, lie about vehicle class and what you had already booked - basically anything to get more money out of you.

After taking back the car, they could not give me the rental ending papers, only after going back personally, 2 times to the office and asking for it... But the main problem that I still have not got back my deposit difference, even though 11 days passed since I gave back the car!!
Informações confusas, atendentes não cordiais( principalmente na agência no Porto) onde foi minha devolução. No dia que peguei o carro tinha solicitado o caução no meu cartão de crédito, porém foi lançado no débito, na retirada solicitei a mudança, nos atendimentos dos clientes anteriores a atendente era só sorrisos , porém na minha vez estava com uma cara terrível, visivelmente insatisfeita, parecia me fazer um favor. Não apresentaram meu extrato no momento da devolução e cobraram adicional de 80 euros por 40 minutos, o qual só tive ciência pela fatura do cartão. Definitivamente procuraria outra opção! Depois da resposta da empresa abaixo, fica bem claro para os clientes se ele por algum motivo atrasar a entrega em 31 minutos ou mais, não será cobrada por tempo excedente e sim uma diária inteira e mais uma taxa extra de 15 euros!

Tja, mit der Unterschrift vor Ort nochmal über 600 gezahlt und anstatt 400 bei Check 24 dann über 1000 Euro. Reklamation wurde vom Anbieter abgelehnt. Die Sache geht jetzt zum Anwalt. Danke Avis
Since I moved to Lisbon 1 year ago Ive been renting cars instead of purchasing or leasing. Over the last 12 months Ive rented from most of the big brands and multiple offices around the city. Ive had alot of bad experiences especially as with any rental I take out I always request the CDW be waived since my US credit card insures any rentals. Most places will try to hustle you on this, or even go as far as tell you its been waived but include it any way (Sixt) This Avis branch, through all my rentals has been the ONLY office I will deal with in Lisbon as they have been spectacular. Ive now been regular renting from this branch for 6 months straight and couldnt be more impressed with the crew working here, the honesty in their contracts, and the efficiency at which they operate. If you are looking for a solid rental experience in the city ESPECIALLY if you have a US credit card that needs the CDW waived go to these guys. Literally nothing but trouble anywhere else.

Já reclamei telefonicamente, recebi um e-mail da Avis, a confirmar que ainda não foi feita a devolução, o que é certo, é que quase 1 mês depois ainda estou à espera. Já contactei o meu banco, para saber se havia algum problema, confirmaram que não havia nenhuma devolução de valor da entidade supra referenciada, Pior serviço que a Sixt e a Europcar. Em próximos alugueres, certamente não vou optar pela Avis.
0 Sterne Leider absolut unkooperativ und überhaupt nicht kundenfreundlich. Mir wurde eine niedrigere Kategorie gegeben als gebucht. Keinerlei Gesprächsbereitschaft. Wenn es mir nicht passt, muss ich das Auto ja nicht nehmen. Ich wollte dann schriftlich bestätigt haben, dass ich reklamiert habe, was mir de facto verwehrt wurde. Nur damit könnte ich mich ja im Nachhinein beschweren. Daher bleibt einfach nur das Gefühl, betrogen worden zu sein. Update 5 Wochen nach Rückkehr: Nach mehrmaligem Urgieren wurde mir nun eine Entschädigung rückerstattet. Das ist für mich der Beweis, dass ich im Recht war und dass tatsächlich auf absolut unverschämte Art und Weise versucht wurde, mich zu betrügen. Unglaublich eigentlich Gebt doch einfach das gebuchte Fahrzeug an die Kunden und alle wären zufrieden!

I have had many excellent experiences at the old store (at Rua Rodrigo da Fonseca, 156) over many years. Andrés service and expertise are exceptional. Whenever I go to Lisbon, I use his excellent and fast services.

Wir wollten da ein Auto für ein Tag mieten um nach Sintra zu fahren. Nach 1,5 Stunden warten, kamen wir endlich dran. Jeder der am Schalter war, schien ein Problem zu haben. Aus diesem Grund mussten wir so lange warten, obwohl nur drei Leute vor uns waren, als wir da ankamen. Wir hatten alles schon im Internet gebucht -auch die Versicherung. Jedoch wollte die Person hinter dem Schalter uns eine zusätzliche Versicherung andrehen. Wir haben das nicht eingesehen und haben die Buchung dann storniert. Hin und zurück mit Taxi war günstiger, als wenn wir das Auto gebucht hätten.

Uma vergonha! Tentaram me enganar. Me Hospedei no Holiday Inn, pedi ajuda para alugar uma Van. Eles disseram que trabalhavam com a Turiscar / Avis e ligaram lá combinaram uma Van por 1 dia a 150 euros. Ao chegar ao local, já me esperavam sabendo da reserva, e tão segui apresentando minha documentação, e após tudo preenchido me cobraram 750 euros pela diária!!!!!!!! Que loucura é essa?!!!! Cancelei imediatamente a contratação!!! Não são corretos! Fuja desse tipo de lugar onde pessoas desonestas sempre acham maneiras de enganar os clientes!

Can I give a negative number? Literally the worst experience I have ever had with a rental car company. Everyone in that rental agency is a scam artist. We reserved two automatic cars under my and my wifes name. After seeing how hilly Lisbon is, my wife dont feel like driving, so I went with my friend to pick up cars around 10am. We were told our reservation was 12pm that we could not pick up cars before that. Instead we were informed that they have two other cars that were available to pick up right away for extra 50 Euro per car per day. We are paying 90 Euros per car per day already. Upselling on the spot ??!! We denied the offer and decided to wait. Around 11:30am we stepped into the office again only to be told that drivers can not be changed have to be the very same person who made the reservation. I have rented cars from Avis Budget and other companies before and never heard of this policy. Later on I confirmed with Avis at Porto airport and Avis headquarter that this is totally not true, reservation is just a place holder, unless prepaid in full driver can be changed to anyone who has valid passport/license/credit card. Our second driver has credit card that covers rental insurance but my wifes card does not offer that. Since the rental agency wouldnt let us switch driver, we had to pay extra to add a second driver and get extra liability insurance. Final cost almost doubled booking price. One of the cars kept warning us for low tire pressure which made us crazy filling up air every 100km. Since most locations are closed on weekend, we could not get a replacement car until two days later at Porto airport. When we returned the car and explained this to the agency, Andre (very rude guy) told us car is a machine that breakdown is normal. BTW the car they gave us was old and has 39100 kms already. On the day of return, they charged us on pre-existing damages (we have video proof taken at pickup). They refused to watch our video proof. My credit card was charged higher than whats on the rental agreement. There are plenty reviews on this particular agency that they run scams every possible way to rip customers off. Avis is a reputable global company, this is a shame they allow this agency to operate dishonestly and illegally to rip off customers. They don t follow corporate policy and make up their own by not allowing reservations to switch drivers so additional driver/insurance charge can be applied. At time of return they charged me on preexisting damages. I have video proof but they refused to watch. My credit card was charged more than the invoice amount with no explanation whatsoever. Shame on Avis/Budget.
I m giving it 1 star, because there is no choice of 0 star, and that is what they really deserve. The entire crew including the management is very rude and unfriendly, and it is apparent none of them had gone through proper customer service trainings. Their entire practice is conning and deceiving, and find all opportunities to create frustration for customers and upsell more expensive options. We have the booking under one friend s name, and they don t allow to change to my name where I can cover all insurance need with my AMEX card, even though later we confirmed with Avis headquarter that it is allowed; so we ended up not only having to pay to add my name as extra driver, we had to also pay a very hefty price to add complete insurance coverage. What is even more outrageous is that when we returned the car, one of the most unfriendly guy claimed some of the old scratches are new, even though we had video proof they were there when we picked up the car; and when I filmed the car at pick up time, another guy actually mocked me don t worry about it, you bought complete insurance coverage anyway , and the guy handling the return just ignored our reasoning and proof, and the fact we paid for complete insurance coverage. Of course we refused to sign but that didn t stop him from adding extra 300ish damage onto our charge. We wasted lot of time both at pickup and return time because of their practices of defrauding customers, now we have to waste even more time file complaints and dispute with their headquarters, and hopefully Avis as a company is more reasonable than this bad branch.
Very long line to pickup car. Your better off coming in hours after pickup time to avoid line. Be wary of booking electric car, its not obvious when booking. They may not be full charge when you pickup. Staff is friendly but thats the only redeemable aspect of this clown show.

Terrible service, very rude personal, especially Andre, who is discussing clients in bad manner with his colleagues in front of them. I understand Portuguese and I informed him about that, Andre answered I don t care . The waiting time takes about an hour, at the same time workers are very relaxed and don t care about it either. I am experienced client of Avis in many countries, but I ve never seen service like that before.
Ricardo at Avis was an absolute life-saver! We started with a Fiat 500 with manual transmission. We took it out and quickly realized the Lisbon hills were just too much. When we brought it back, Ricardo patiently helped us switched to an automatic, no problem! Then I found out I have left the camera in the Fiat 500! We went back the next morning, and Ricardo was to the rescue again! He took us to the Fiat and found the camera! We had a smooth and easy time throughout the rental experience, all thanks to Ricardo and his colleagues! Everyone was very helpful and all smiles. I can tell they truly care about and take pride in what they do. You know how hard it could be to rent a car, but it s definitely not the case here at Avis. I wish all my future rentals could be as easy as this one. Ricardo, if you read this, I really appreciate you.

Atendimento ao balcão em que apesar de não ser generalizado pelos funcionários, alguns assumem a importância do cliente ou a viatura que vem levantar pela aparência da pessoa (roupa que veste e aparência exterior). Sei que ainda temos todos que crescer neste aspecto em Portugal, mas inaceitável a meu ver numa empresa desta dimensão internacional e numa sua loja no centro de Lisboa. Ficam aqui só os aspectos menos agradáveis e agora espero que a viatura levantada e futura experiência com esta delegação me prove que as primeiras impressões podem estar erradas. No entanto é um mau começo.

Terrible terrible experience with Avis. Absolutely do not rent a vehicle here unless you can provide your own insurance, we were scammed. We also paid for the automatic tolls add on, because we would be driving on the highways throughout Portugal, the sales rep told us the tolls would be taken care of but 6 months later I got a letter from the Pagamento De Portagens saying the tolls had never been paid and were overdue. Customer service has been useless, they opened a case and never followed up. When I tried to call with my case number they said there was nothing they could do and hung up on me. AVOID AVIS AT ALL COSTS.

Be aware - this location closes between 12:30 and 2:30 local time. It seems like this is normal across a lot of the rental car locations in Portugal but can be a hassle. Fortunately, Ricardo was there and was so nice to help me when I showed up at 12:35. Hes a very nice man and made the entire situation better. That said - dont push your luck, arrive there at noon at the latest!

Agents will push for signature first and then talk, wont let you read any agreement. They said our booking is not available due to error and upsell you a high costing vehicle. I specifically asked about toll road, and the man said its on the house, and I later received a charge for it. Dishonest Portugese staff what a disappointment as they tarnish the reputation of other genuine Portugese.
Great service, easy location, very helpful staff. We ran a little late getting back into Lisbon - driving from Spain and missed the closing hour for the location by about 20-min. Fortunately, one of the staff was outside, I recognized him from when we received the car the week before. He was wonderful and was able to call into the office, get the garage open and took the car in for us.
Me and my friend (he s american) we rent a car yesterday. We spend the day together in sintra and I show him around Lisbon, no problems with the car. Today, I had to do some work, so he left me in work before he delivered the car. I couldn t believe when he called me telling me that Avis decided to charge him more 180 because the car was damage . It s wasn t damage, for sure. He delivered the car as we rent yesterday. It was just a dishonest act and I m sure they did that because he was a foreigner and they decided to took advantage. But, since I m Portuguese, I will contact my lawyer. You should AVOID this company at all cost.

A perfect example for customer mislead + how to lose a regular client in 30 minutes. Ill explain: When you order online, you receive a thing which is called - CDW. When you click the info button it says: Protects you when the car is damaged. So you are happy, feeling that you are covered. When you get to the office to rent the car they tell you that it is just the basic protection and you have an excess of 2000 euros. If you want to upgrade it it will cost you an additional 20+ euros per day... Now, the main problem is that you dont have the posibility to order a full protection online, or at least to know the price of full protection before getting to the office. Second - I saw here people that said that the stuff is nice. WELLLLL they are nice, until something happens, then they forget that you are a regular client and they act like robots. I returned the car with a small mark on the paint and the wheel. Something that I didnt even noticed, and clearly that they will not fix. So instead of saying - Dont worry david, it is a small one, lets see what we can do, they just went to the maximum list price of the damages + a Processing fee of about 80 euros. in total I paid more than 300 euros for a real small mark. Just to mention - in SIXT, the stuff noticed a mark that was not mentioned in the damage list when I took the car, and they just said - No worries, we will pass it and write as if it was already there. So AVIS / BUDGET - LOST A REGULAR CLIENT. NEVER MORE.

Never met a bigger douchebag in my life than Ricardo at this place. Avis: get rid of this guy. Not only did he turn down our transaction mid-process because it was lunchtime but he also turned down a bunch of other customers at the same time. Also he made fun of me for not taking his upsell and was all round unpleasant. I ve used Avis twice in the past 2 weeks and they were sooo much better than this branch. Everyone else: yourself a favour and book somewhere else - plenty of other places in Lisbon: Europcar 20 secs up the road is far superior. Ran into the other customers he turned away while there as well! Ricardo literally cost his branch thousands of euros today by being so unpleasant. Wonder how much he loses the branch each week.

Mw entregaram um carro na categoria antes requerida, mas quando parei em um posto verifiquei que os dois pneus da frente estavam carecas. Aparecendo o aço. Tive que mudar minha rota de viagem p pegar outro em Porto. Ao devolver esse novo carro hojee cobraram 60 euros por uma lavagem especial. Um absurdo tendo em vista que o carro estava com a sujeira esperada p 15 dias de locação. Me senti uma idiota. Nao recomendo para meu inimigo. É a pior companhia de locação de automóveis que ja usei. Tried calling exactly 27 times to change a reservation. Nobody picked up. Had to go to the agency personally to change the reservation, where they told me they simply could not pick up the phone due to the workload. It is important to mention that these calls were tried during a 25 hour period (9:30 - 12:00)
We used this Avis for a 3 day rental to go from Lisbon to the Algarve. They were slow, but friendly when we checked in. But upon returning the car they found scratches on the wheel hubcat. I have now been charged $585 dollars (516 Euros) because of this. This is very wrong, and there was not discussion about what the correct cost would be. I am an @Avis & @Budget member in the USA and would never advise anyone to use them outside of the USA as there is no way to dispute or argue the claims.

Locadora picareta e de serviço lamentável. Aceitaram meu cartão para a reserva, porém não aceitaram no momento de buscar o automóvel. O preço do aluguer era de 20 euros e me cobraram 60 euros no cartão por não ter saído com o carro, que eles mesmos me impediram de fazer. Não conseguem cobrar um valor de 20 para fazer o levantamento mas conseguem cobrar 60, nunca vi uma prática mais absurda e picareta.

Budget/Avis - Very friendly and helpful staff. I got an upgrade for free and the car was brand new and pristine clean. The whole rental experience was very positive and I didn t have any issue with the fuel deposit amount reserved on my card at the counter when I took the car out (I returned the car with a full tank so the deposit wasn t charged). Drive safely !

After being confirmed a reservation for 18:00 on a Friday I was not allowed in at that time (they did not pick up the phone in the hour previous). I was told to come back the following day at 9 am, only to be told I could not get a car because it had to be picked up the previous day. Appealing service, rude, inconsiderate. a company that deserves going under. Will never work with them again. Ps. It got better. The car I was given was broken. Support sent a tow car but not a taxi. After calling four times and waiting over four hours, was eventually informed that they had forgotten to send the taxi.
Another big frustration with Avis Portugal, contrary to my double digit experience with Avis in other countries. No people in the office. Additional requirements to documentation compared to any other location. Additional, inexplicable fees. Deductions excluded in total bill. Slow and arrogant service. Last year was about the same. I will never come back to Avis Portugal

Ils ont prélevé 10 euros sur ma carte de crédit 1 an après la location. Quand j essaie de les contacter pour vérifier s il s agit d une erreur ou d une fraude potentielle, aucune réponse à mes courriels et quand j appelle en interurbain, j attends plus de 30 minutes sans réponse! Inacceptable
Unfortunately the good reputation of AVIS did not apply in our case. The receptionist gave the impression of him not enjoying his job very much.In our opinion he would have been better off picking one without the necessity of human contact. Apparently the toll device of 69 Euro was compulsory to pay, which was not pointed out during our booking- therefore unplanned costs which were not communicated applied. On the way back to the hand in we called to notice them we might be 1hour late due to the countrywide shortages and waiting times for petrol. Their reply was not empathetic at all, since they wanted us to pay an extra day that would have been twice the price of our original daily fare. We were glad making it in time despite our worries, since giving them more money would have been contributed to a customer service that clearly lacks a minimum of customer oriented quality standards.
BAD: 1) Extra charges additionally to the web reservation (vat, taxes, etc.) In any case something they will charge when you return the car. 2) You dont know the car you will drive until you come (my case: I asked for Toyota CHR and they gave me Toyota Corolla - long family car not adequate for travelling in Portugal with difficulties for parking and a lot of curves, the employee didnt even try to find more options to offer) 3) Receive/Return Car limited to office schedule, the only one 24h office is the airport and they will charge you for returning it there GOOD: 1) Paper work was fast 2) Car in exceptionally good condition 3) They explain you all extra charges (THIS SHOULD BE DONE AT RESERVATION time) 4) Competitive price
Das aller letzte. Wir haben kein Auto bekommen weil die Kreditkarte nicht auf den Fahrer lief. Leider waren die Mitarbeiter vor Ort auch nicht in der Lage die Reservierung zu ändern oder zu stornieren. Die hatten keine Lust ein Auto zu vermieten. Sind mit dem Zug gefahren.

No planning of how many people will be collecting a car at a given day. We had booked a car from 10am and had to wait 2h30 in a line to get the actual car. Unbelievable service for a company that is not low cost in brand, but is in reality.
Nuestra experiencia con Avis fue mala. En primer lugar no nos dieron el coche que elegimos en la web. No sabemos el motivo pero el caso es que en el último momento decidieron darnos un coche diferente. Aparte de eso, el motivo real por el que no recomiendo a nadie alquilar un coche con Avis es que, en el contrato que firmamos decía que si nos demorábamos en la hora de entrega teníamos que avisar y se nos concedería una prórroga. 20 minutos antes de la hora de entrega llamamos varias veces a varios teléfonos que nos facilitaron para avisar de que nos íbamos a retrasar un poco. Nade respondió nunca. Cuando llegamos al punto de entrega, 10 minutos después de la hora prevista, la oficina de Avis estaba cerrada puesto que era el descanso para comer. Allí nos quedamos, durante 2 horas esperando a que volvieran, pagando un parquímetro, puesto que no había nadie para atendernos y guardar el vehículo. A las 2 horas volvió el personal y nos dijeron que nos pondrían una sanción por entregarlo tarde. Decían que habíamos excedido las 2h de margen que dan. Explicamos que en primer lugar habíamos llamado para avisar de los 10 minutos de demora pero que nadie dio respuesta, y en segundo lugar la hora de su descanso no debería perjudicarnos a nosotros. No hubo forma. Nos cobraron como un día más de coche por haber estado esperando a que volvieran de comer. Me parece muy injusto No lo recomiendo a nadie.

Jai choisi Avis car cette enseigne est connue pour son sérieux en France, mais au Portugal on a limpression de se faire arnaquer car même sil connaissent peu le français, il le comprennent mieux que ce quils nous font croire. Il ma donc été difficile de faire marquer sur la feuille tout les points de carrosserie abîmés. surtout prenez des photos avant votre départ. (la Fiat Punto de 39000km était en plus mauvais état que ma voiture personnelles qui a 180000km)
Can I choose negative stars please. I am in car rental hell. Beware of added costs and charges after your rental. To make it short, I rented a car, the car broke down later that same day an hour from Lisbon. Missed plans for that day, lost hotel costs for where we were heading and had to be taxied back to Lisbon for a new car but then on our merry way. Returned the new car as planned 5 days later, an hour ahead of schedule. But now my credit card was charged for an extra day, late fee, roadside assistance and airport tax since we had to get the new car from the airport (which I had been trying to avoid). Expedia/AARP is trying to help and we now have a complaint case going. But beware. I will not rent from them again anywhere. Charges at this point are almost $200 more than the original quote.
Terrible service. Rented a compact, agent thought we wouldnt fit, refused to bring the car up to let us see if we fit, then tried to push us into a larger luxury car for over $1200 more... End of story we fit in the compact just fine. Dont let them push you into the higher category for no reason.
Rarement vu une agence aussi peu professionnel et arnaque ses clients en plus. Déjà les heures d ouverture ne sont pas les bonnes sur internet et sur le site donc un conseil ne commander pas une voiture un samedi !! De plus on nous laisse pas le choix de prendre le système de péage au Portugal (viaverde) qui nous coûte 16e alors qu il est tout à fait possible de conduire sur autoroute sans. Enfin nous voulions prendre un jour de plus, le monsieur au téléphone nous dis qu il faudra payer 20euros. Nous demandons un reçu par email mais il nous assure que tout est ok que nous avons pas à nous inquiéter. Nous serons finalement facturé 35e! Quand nous expliquons tout cela au responsable lorsque nous déposons la voiture, il nous dis que nous avons sûrement mal compris et que c est comme ça. Ce n est pas de payer une certaine somme le problème c est de payer plus que le prix annoncer qui est agaçant. Rien à ajouter

Je ne croyais pas quon pouvait se faire arnaquer par une compagnie comme AVIS, eh bien OUI cest possible ICI ! Ils ont votre numéro de carte de crédit? Alors ils se servent dans le plat de bonbons, à répétition, et la seule façon de les joindre cest par téléphone (et mon portugais est plutôt nul!) Au moins vous le saurez, ne vous plaignez pas après vous être fait avoir!

Easy pick up and drop off. No hidden charges. A lot easier and better than airport pickup, where the line can easily be an hour and I encountered hidden fees.
Co-located with Budget just north of the Intercontinental Hotel. Car pickup was smooth, no pressure to upsell. Definitely get the electronic Via Verde if you travel outside the city - all highways are tolled.
Scams and lies. I don t recommend! Weve been given an upgraded car and were promised it would be at no extra cost. On the contract we signed it mentioned an amount that was not agreed to. However, the lady who sorted out the car for us, said, it would be refunded if the car was returned without damage and filled with fuel. When we returned the car undamaged and full, the same person told us we would not get any money back and she never said we would. So we ended up paying twice the amount we originally booked the car for. Never again.
Avoid at all cost, they have a systematic scheme to defraud your credit card, and Avis Portugal is covering them, so they must benefit from the fraud !!! There are better option to rent a car in Lisbon try SIX . I got 3, 49$ charges from them, more than 6 months after my last rental , and all this ,after they try to steal almost 400 usd from me by intentionally overcharging 400$ for an extra rental day, Avis Portugal are taking advantage of the explosion of tourism in Portugal, they should be investigated ! I went to the police at the airport where an officer told me they new about the fraud but could not do anything !!!!
