Had an amazing experience! João Martins made everything super easy, check-in and checkout were smooth, and I even got a free upgrade. Great service and hassle-free process. Highly recommend and will certainly return!!
If you do rent with them, ensure you are extra cautious. They will try to find any way to scam you and make more money off you. If you would like proof, read the 100s of other negative reviews saying the same thing. In our case they accused us of returning the car 1 minute late and charged us an extra day.
Update on my review: The SIXT customer service team reached out to me and issued a refund for the extra charge. I appreciate how seriously they addressed the matter and their prompt response. I've changed my rating from 1 star to 3 stars because of this. Hopefully, if my experience with them improves in the future, they will deserve a higher rating by avoiding these types of inconveniences. -------------------------------- I want to share my experience to help others avoid the same issue. I pre-booked a car for 6 days directly on the Sixt website, with full coverage and the most expensive insurance. I returned the car on time, with no damage, exactly as agreed. The next day, I received my bill and was shocked to find they charged me for 7 days for everything, even the insurance and other fees—over €100 more than what was agreed in the contract. The documents listed my pickup time as 10:16 AM and my return time as 11:28 AM, which means they charged me for an extra full day for just 1 hour and 12 minutes of difference. I would have understood if I was really late, but the situation was quite different. First, the 10:16 AM time listed was when the agent opened my file—by the time we actually received the car, it was closer to 11:00 AM. When we returned the car, there was no place to park due to the small lot, so their staff instructed us to wait on the street until the other cars left. We couldn’t even enter the lot until around 11:00 AM. Despite this, they processed the return as if it was 28 minutes late to charge us extra. We were never told that being a few minutes late -which we were not!- would result in a heavy penalty. This seems like a deliberate attempt to charge customers more. I contacted Sixt by phone and email, but as a Canadian tourist, I couldn’t go back to resolve the issue in person, and I never received a response. This feels like a systemic issue of bad faith and overcharging. I hope my review helps others avoid this frustrating situation.
An absolutely terrible experience: The staff is completely overwhelmed! Everything takes hours. There are only two employees working at an unbearably slow pace, while over 15 customers are left waiting just to pick up their cars. The place is a mess—disorganized and chaotic. The ticketing system doesn’t work at all. We were second in line, yet everyone who arrived after us received their car before we did. After waiting two hours in frustration, we finally left without a car and are now demanding our money back. It seemed like even those who managed to complete their contracts still didn’t get a car. This was, without a doubt, the worst experience we’ve had in all of Portugal. Do yourself a favor and stay far away. I would NEVER go here again!
I have corrected my rating regarding my recent experience described below because Sixt did refund the gas fee when I contacted customer service saying it was a processing error. I still was added unwanted roadside assistance that was sneaked in the pickup process without asking me. I recommend being extra vigilant when renting at this place and clearly state upfront that you do not wish any extra. But I am relieved to see that Sixt is doing what it can to maintain customer expectations in term of trust and reliability. I have rented a car in this place for 2 weeks with damage waiver for peace of mind. The man at the counter told me it was mandatory to add some fee to what I prepaid in case I did not return the car with a full tank, as well as for toll fees. He also specified I would only be charged the toll fee I used and fuel if I did not return the car with a full tank, which I did. It turns out this was a blatant lie to make me take a fuel service I never asked for, and (because why not?) he also added some roadside protection I never asked for either, without even bothering to mention it. I was just presented with a screen to sign, there is no paper to read, there is no way I could have figure this scam which requires a careful reading of a few documents written in tiny and compact characters. I am used to rent through Avis and Hertz and I thought Sixt was a reputable company as well , so I was trusting and did not pay much attention until I received the final bill with an extra 140€. I contacted their customer service about this but of course got no reply from them. Now I read all the other reviews and stories about Sixt and realise this practice is institutionalised and they do this sort of scam on a regular basis throughout Portugal, the worst being in Faro. There is enough competition to avoid having to deal with crooks whose idea of conducting business is to lie and confuse the customer to make a few extra buck. It’s amazing to me that having a customer who is happy to pay 1000€ to rent a car, all this company can think of is finding ways to swindle a little bit more out of him. It does not strike me as smart to loose customers like that, but I guess, in the end, there is enough suckers out there in need of a car to make it pay out for them. When I read other reviews, I am just happy it only cost me this much to figure out how Sixt is running its business!
I will try to balance de negative reviews. My experience with Sixt in Lisbon was very good. A very warm welcome, the check in was easy. The helped carrying the suitcases. They verified and took pictures of the car. Made me sign for it and I was off. Very good experience.
SCAM This location, staff and everyone was really nice but at the end of the rent, I got charged more than 900 euro for damage or lost I didn't even make. if you look at the picture I uploaded they even charged missing bolt and tire. Tire condition was about to get replaced from the pick up seemed like only 10% of it left and it was stinky. I didn't expect this would happen from SIXT. Based on reviews seems like this location is fine but if you see any reviews from the Portugal airport TOO many people are experiencing the same. If you have to rent a car, return at this location. I returned my car at Faro airport. I am giving 2 stars since I believe it is not entirely this location's issue. I have no reason to lie the damage wasn't on me since my credit card company will cover it but this is just not right and killing overall business and even image of Portugal. I don't want anyone to experience this again this is just not right.
We had a great experience with Sixt's service. Rui Martens was always available to assist us promptly and was very courteous. His service was outstanding, and we could always rely on him. The handover went smoothly, and our nearly brand-new car worked perfectly. We were even able to drop off the car at a different location. Many thanks for the excellent service! We had great experience with Sixt @Rua Estevão, even tho we damaged the car, their proposal for fixing it were very adequate, even considering the situation staff were understanding and respectful stating it happens to everyone. Will definitely rent there again, living in Lisbon and will be our preferred location for our mini trips in Portugal!
Wir haben das Auto online gebucht, bei der Abholung war es aber nicht da und musste erst von woanders geholt werden. Alles wirkte unorganisiert. Am Ende war die Rechnung höher als vorher vereinbart. Z.B. wurden 10 für etwas berechnet, was wir nicht in Anspruch genommen haben. Die Rückerstattung ist noch in Bearbeitung. Die Mitarbeiten waren ansonsten freundlich und das Auto war auch in Ordnung.

Waited for 60 minutes to pick up a preordered car. Staff very unfriendly: she claimed that I only waited for 20 minutes, told me next time I should come when it s less busy and that I should be happy I get a car at all. Last time I go to SIXT.
First, I was provided with a faulty Renault Arkana instead of the reserved Mini Cooper. Then, they replaced it with a T-Roc. I was, of course, pleased, and everything went wonderfully. I even wanted to leave a positive review. Before the rental started, I was informed that using the Via Verde toll road with the transponder installed in the car would incur additional charges, which I agreed to, as it s convenient to drive through and pay later. Two weeks after the rental ended (I was already in another country), Sixt attempted to charge my bank account for the toll charges. My bank, Revolut, flagged the transaction as potentially fraudulent and blocked it. I contacted support, and they responded, We can t retry the transaction. Your bank is at fault. You ll be contacted, please wait. Here s the message I received: At this point, you should expect to receive a notification with all the payment instructions for these failed debit tolls. Since then, support hasn t replied, and I still haven t been contacted for payment, which worries me because I genuinely want to settle my toll charges. If you plan on renting a car here with a Via Verde transponder, I advise against it. You may simply not be able to pay for it afterward. It s very odd that in this digital age, the company cannot issue a straightforward payment request. So, one star rating for this payment service. If youll contact with me and Ill pay for the Via Verde, Ill change my feedback.
We arrived in Lisboa to return our Sixt BMW Rent a Car. We want to Commend Pedro Esteves (Fleet Support) for translating for us and guiding us to our hotel destination! We had problems with our phone service and he was a god sent!!

We had a great experience here - got our car in 15min and return was easy. Staff was friendly, spoke good English and car was clean. Nothing to complain about on our end !
AVOID!!! Rui messaged me via Whatsapp to convince me to pre-pay for the fuel after I had declined this option in the showroom. He lied to me by telling me that I will only be charged for the fuel I used not a full tank (this is not the company policy it turns out). Its been more than 2x month now and I still havent received a refund. Sixt customer services have not even responded to our claim.
Although we didnt know this rental company, it was a good surprise, good service, it was very fast to pick up at the airport agency and to return it to the center agency. We have no problem.
Geht nicht dort hin! Mietet euer Auto auf jeden Fall anderswo! Hier erwarten euch nur versteckte Kosten wodurch es am Ende doppelt so teuer wird. Lasst euch auf keinen Fall den prepaid fuel service verkaufen. Jeden Liter, der bei der Rückgabe des Autos noch im Tank ist, zahlt ihr drauf. Uns wurde das leider ganz anders erklärt, wir haben uns zu dieser Option überreden lassen, dann aber den Tank voll abgegeben und damit quasi 60 draufgezahlt. Wir dachten sie stellen nur die bis zur vollen Tankfüllung verbleibenden Liter in Rechnung - wie es auch normal wäre! Ein absoluter scam! Außerdem haben wir ein Auto bekommen, bei dem von Anfang an eine Warnleuchte gelb leuchtete, auf die wir noch ganz zu Beginn die Serviceperson hingewiesen haben. Der Mechaniker meinte das wäre nicht schlimm. Zwei Tage später blieben wir mit kaputtem Turbo liegen und mussten von der Pannenhilfe geholt, zurück nach Lissabon gebracht werden und dann wieder zum Ausgangspunkt fahren. Das kostete uns einen halben Tag Zeit. Die Mautgebühren sind sehr hoch. Das elektronische Mautgerät im Auto kostet bei jeder Mautabrechnung 1,70 - das waren während unserer etwa 10 Tage 17 . Und das, obwohl wir insgesamt nur die Strecke von Lissabon nach Porto und zurück geschafft haben, plus ein paar Abstecher zu Küstenorten auf dem Weg. Dieser Preis galt allein für die Benutzung des eingebauten ViaVerde-Geräts! Die Maut selbst hat nochmal ca. 40 gekostet. Das Personal an der SIXT-Filiale des Flughafens wirkte wesentlich professioneller und hat nach unserer Geschichte nur den Kopf geschüttelt. Vielleicht holt man seinen Wagen besser dort. Oder ihr geht gleich zu einem anderen Anbieter.

Friendly staff, efficient rental recovery, just on the way back he didnt have the car we had reserved. Remember to book in advance as they dont have many cars.
Lendo as avaliações aqui fiquei com um pouco de receio. Mas foi a única locadora que achei por perto e que abria sábado e domingo. No final das contas minha experiência foi razoável. Demorei 40 minutos entre o horário marcado e a retirada do carro da loja. E a única coisa que eu contesto foi uma cobrança de 28,14 euros como custo de pedagio , sendo que no momento da locação eu perguntei sobre isso e a atendente disse que o via verde já constava no preço. Então essa parte ficou mal explicada. Não me cobraram nada por arranhões, amassados ou coisa do tipo. Mas eu retirei e devolvi o carro no mesmo local, talvez se tivesse devolvido em outro teria tido algum problema como estão relatando aqui.
Get ready to stand in line for about 90minutes if not more. There is no order or real service. No difference if youve booked your car in advance, youll be standing in line like any other walki-in. Only 2 out of 4 desks were open and even with a long line of people they didnt seem to bother to open another one. Disappointing.
A filial da SIXT em Lisboa Centro/Estefânia tem recebido avaliações bastante positivas. Muitos clientes destacam o excelente atendimento ao cliente. Warnung - Abzocke! Siehe Bewertungen auf Trustpilot! Wir mussten 2 Stunden auf das Auto warten, obwohl 3 Schalter besetzt waren. Es gab keine Entschuldigung. Dann haben wir einen Schaltwagen bekommen, obwohl wir Automatik reserviert haben. Daher mussten wir noch länger warten bis ein Automatikwagen verfügbar war. Am Schalter erklärte uns die Dame sie würde die Kreditkarte mit 82 belasten. Wir fragten warum, da wir bereits alle Leistungen, die wir haben wollten, über den ADAC-Mietwagenservice gezahlt haben. Wir haben es nicht verstanden und fragten, ob es eine Kaution sei. Sie bestätigte dies. In der Abschlussrechnung wurden Leistungen abgezogen, die wir gar nicht haben wollten. Wir haben daher an Sixt gewandt. Sixt Lissabon fand es aber völlig in Ordnung Kunden zu betrügen. Wir haben nichts erstattet bekommen und fühlen uns daher um das Geld betrogen. Wir können nur warnen. Leider haben wir uns vorher die Bewertungen auf Trustpilot nicht angesehen. Dort wird dieses Vorgehen auch von anderen Kunden als gängige Praxis beschrieben. Niemals wieder!
They will lie to you about the fuel plan, then they will tell you that they did not. I suggest looking for a more reputable car rental company.
Be careful with this place. My final invoice included fees that shouldnt be there. They may scam you as well.

As other reviews say - TOTAL SCAM going on here. They will charge you for things you miss in the inspection. I got charged for some catches in the boot, which I couldnt possibly have noticed in the inspection. Also the vehicle was covered in scratches, then they charged me for a scratch I didnt do, but then there were so many already listed it was so easily missed. Choose another rental company - something dodgy going on here.
Just like the other reviews, this depot seemed nice. On returning to Faro they ve made up false damage. A tiny imperfection on the boot that you d never be able to spot in the dim lighting of the Lisbon depot. So i reckon they re in on the scam.
Long waiting time for pick up the car. Im waited more than half our before the procedure started (Only 1 other client with clarification issue was in the entry room). Necessary no consider additional fee for electronic device if using highway. In office was explained only if use via verde, but in fact other gates were also considered.
Had some issues but all was good in the end. The team at the rua da Jose location was helpful. P.s Get full insurance.

Very nice service and kind workers. But the system was down and it took 1 hour to process 4 people in front of us. They were very kind during that process which I appreciated. With that said; I reserved a bmw 1 series or similar. They said they didn t have one (I saw it sitting right there), then said they upgraded me to an Audi Q2 (which is not an upgrade). I paid extra for the 1 series and to be lied to about an upgrade and its availability leaves me with 2 stars.
I was there last week, and it was a great experience, both in customer service and car delivery. The employees were very kind and attentive. It was my first experience with Sixt, and it certainly wont be the last.
