We loved our tour to Sintra and Cascais with Nuno was the highlight of the entire day. He was so informative and engaging and showed his passion for his beloved Portugal. He went above and beyond to make sure each of us in the group had a great time and that we were able to see and learn everything we wanted to. I like that this isnt the typical tour, its a little off the beaten track and he personalizes it for the group, based on their interests. Highly recommend!

I spent my very first days in Portugal with Mannu and Nuno from We Hate Tourism Tours. The day tours with them both confirmed my expectations. I really liked that we avoided the crowds of tourists. Our local tour guides showed us places that were known to few people, especially locals. Their stories helped us to better understand Portuguese society and culture. Had two lovely tours with WHT and am really glad that I did! The guides share their knowledge with (self-deprecating) humor and give you more insight into the history of Portugal and Lisbon.

This review is specifically for the Sintra and Cascais tour. Usually when I do group tours I look for smaller tours that dont have the huge tour bus feel. You definitely get the small tour experience, but maybe I should have taken the name of the company more literally. Our guide, who was very nice and knowledgeable, unfortunately spent a good portion of the tour either complaining about tourists or talking about his soccer club, including a twenty minute stretch when we all stood on a sidewalk while he talked about soccer. On the Sintra tour, I think it should be made more clear that this tour does not go anywhere near Pena Palace or Quinta de Regaleira. To be fair, the description does say you wont spend the whole day in line for the palace, but I thought that meant we wouldnt be going inside (which was fine with me) not that we wouldnt see it at all. It just seems a bit odd to offer a tour of a city and not bring people anywhere near the main sights. I think everyone on the tour was a bit disappointed, but didnt feel comfortable saying anything, because the guide was so vocal about how awful and over-crowded it is (although later he said he took thousands of pictures up there during a recent trip with his family, so it sounds worthwhile to me). It was great to stop in Cascais, but the guide just dropped us off on a corner and told us to be back in two hours. When I asked for lunch recommendations, he just said to avoid the touristy spots. We had a similar experience in Sintra, where we were dropped of at one of the less popular palaces and told to explore for an hour. I left feeling that I would have been better off taking the train to either city and exploring on my own. Overall, I wouldnt recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting Sintra for their first or possibly only time.

Somit das richtige Porto. Hatten die erste Tour bereits vor 2 Jahren in Lissabon mit Wehatetourismtours und waren so begeistert , dass wir in Porto wieder gebucht hatten. Great time!

Oh my god, this is the greatest company ever!!! They really care about their city and their country. They especially want to make our experience as different as possible from the traditional hop on hop off tour. On top of explaining the general history of Portugal and Lisbon, our guide, Manu, went above and beyond and drove us to the suburbs to explain the history and development of the city post-revolution. He explained his parents childhood and his own upbringing and the social changes that happened since the 1990s. It was soooooo interesting!!! We had so much fun with Manu! He was funny, he was patient with all our questions and photos and he was thoughtful. He was more than a guide, he was a friend!

Our tour with Manuel was the highlight of our time in Lisbon. He showed us places outside of the main tourist stops, which made for shorter lines, less people, and an overall more wonderful experience. Manuel was informative, funny, and a joy to spend the day with. He recommended a roadside chorizo bread stand for lunch that remains our favorite food experience from our entire trip to Europe. I highly recommend this company and Manuel!

We did a food-focussed walking tour of central Lisbon with We Hate Tourism Tours. Our guide Nuno was born and bred in the city and spoke fluent English. He turned out to be an excellent guide. Nuno was full of knowledge about Portuguese food traditions as well as the country s history and shared it all with us in a very pleasant way during our walk. Nuno also shared stories from the lives of his parents and grandparents, which made recent history of this beautiful place to come alive. We deeply appreciated this personal touch. In the days following the tour, Nuno provided us with lots of valuable tips for our remaining days in Lisboa! The tour was a great experience that we can highly recommend!

Amazing tour with a guide who lives in, and loves their city! Our group was small so we got to ask all kinds of questions about everything from history, local politics, how tourism affects the population, where to eat, and how the city has changed over the years. Just take a tour earlier in your visit so you can use all the great knowledge and tips you get! If you are someone who hates feeling like a tourist and stepping all over the local population for your vacation pleasure, this is for you.

Great low key tour. Exactly what the name suggests.

Honestly the best guided tour I ever made. Booked the Real Life Suburbia and it was so worth it! Nonu and Manu showed me around some cool spots without any tourists around exactly what I wished for. We had so much fun together, had some original Fofo de Belas, and even checked out some new places! I can t thank you guys enough for this most amazing day in the neighborhoods, really hope to meet these people again. BOOK NOW you won t regret!

Our Porto tour was hosted by Teresa. She gave us interesting historical backgroud information and guided us on different ways through the town. She shared a lot of insights from the locals. We liked the tour very much and were happy with her style doing such a tourist tour.

Had a wonderful dinner and tour with a very personable and friendly Lisbon native, João. Having grown up in Lisbon, João shared a social and cultural perspective that we would not have received from a larger tour company. WHTT is a fabulous tour company! They actually LOVE giving tours.

If a tour, then this one! No Instagram repetition and the freedom to vary it according to your own wishes or spontaneous ideas. Honest, good information without embellishment and a real person who also charmingly shows his Portuguese soul. If youre just looking for the same old standard pictures, dont want to experience the emotions of the country and just want to work through your checklist, youre not in good hands here

Jono was an excellent host and drove us around a different parts of the city. We happen to do our tour on Portugal s big celebration of liberation April 25, so driving was a trick. But what a marvelous day to witness the jubilation of the Portuguese people being liberated from a dictator. Pastel De Nata (famous little custard pie) was a highlight as were the various shopping areas.

A unique and insightful experience ! David was the best ! He grave us not only a historical tour but also a gastronomical and socio economic tour. Would definitely recommand the experience

We did the Sintra day trip tour and we had an amazing time. If you prefer small groups this tour is for you, there is a maximum of six people per group, and on our tour it was just my girlfriend and I. Our guide was Nuno, who was fantastic and gave us a perfect mix of showing us around and giving us time on our own to explore at each stop. If youre looking for a perfect way to do a Sintra day trip this tour is for you.

Great Guides to explore Portugal off the beaten track. You wont visit all the main tourist attractions but instead will discover gems, get s better feel for the Portuguese culture and avoid standing in line for hours. This was our second tour with them and well be joining for more tours when we visit Portugal again.

Eine schöne, gut durchorganisierte Tour. Uns hat auch das Mittagessen in dem typischen kleinen portugiesischem Lokal sehr gut gefallen. Es hatte etwas Ursprüngliches nicht vom Tourismus Befallenes. My partner and I did the Sintra & Cascais tour and we absolutely loved it! Our tour guide David was very knowledgeable and a fun guy to be around. We learnt a lot about the history of the region and really enjoyed our general conversations with David. It felt like we truly got the local experience. If you are looking for an intimate and unique tour, away from big crowds and without having to wait in any lines, this is the tour for you. Highly recommended to people of all ages!

Just your average free walking tour - but for 40 ! Unstructured, false facts, and no sight of the promised socio-political discussions. Especially towards the end it just turned into an enlistment of places: This is the university. This is the hospital. This is a nice sunset view., all without additional info. Most questions that would lead to a deeper discussion were turned down with a quick superficial answer by our guide Teresa. Still two stars, because I think the idea of stopping for some traditional drinks and snacks is a good idea. Otherwise I definitely felt like we wasted 80 !!! and 3hrs on a loop that we couldve walked by ourselves. We mightve just been unlucky with the guide, but the tour was far from what We Hate Toursim promises to be special at.

What a great Lisbon tour!! Nuno, our guide, was soooo pleasant, funny and knowledgeable. We learned so much and had a ton of fun. What could be better?! We saw, and learned about all the main attractions but also went off the beaten path to really see and get a sense of what it is like to live, and even have grown up, in Lisbon. It made all the lessons on history, architecture, food, culture, etc come to life. Highly recommend!

We somehow ended up on a private (no one else had booked that day) tour and had the absolute best time! Our guide, David, was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly but not disingenuous in the slightest. We had great conversation throughout the entire day, were able to see many spots in Sintra and the surrounding areas back to Lisbon. I would book this tour again, as my understanding is it s evergreen and slightly customizable, depending on what you/your group wants to see. Thank you for a great day!

Our family of 5 have been planning for this trip to Lisbon for many years! We reside in the United States. I had heard great things about this tour company so I contacted Marta online to plan our visit about 6 months ago. She was very professional and patient with me always answering my questions timely. Marta helped us plan a trip for Fatima, Batalha, Nazare and Obidos. Their pricing is very competitive to other tour companies. We then got to Lisbon and our assigned guide Paulo started communicating with us and gave advice on what to not miss while we are here. On the day of our tour, Paulo met us on time and the vehicle was clean and very comfortable. All through the trip, he talked about what we were seeing or going to see and answered all our questions. At each stop, he accompanied us into the location and was very patient with us and made sure he answered all our questions. He went above and beyond the duties of a guide and took care if one in our party who was not feeling well. Paulo also bought us some snacks to try when we were in a cafe or from a street vendor. He chatted with all in our party and used our names all through our trip. He also provided recommendations for lunch and dinner. When it all ended, we were sad to part ways as we had a great time and Paulo was like part of the family, the whole experience was like visiting with someone that you have known for a long time. We will definitely be using this tour company again and recommend you ask for Paulo if want an awesome adventure

Cannot say enough great things about this company! Professional, insightful, communicative, and super fun. This was my 2nd tour with WHTT, the first was in Lisbon in 2012 and most recent was in Porto in 2023. WHTT skips the boring touristy stuff and the long lines and takes you to the coolest parts of the city that often go overlooked! The tour guides are incredibly cool and know a great deal of the history of the country and how it shaped the city you see today. They give a ton of great little details that make you really appreciate the city in a new light. Bruno and Mannu were great hosts in Porto, and asked us what types of things we were interested in seeing/doing, and also what we wanted to avoid. Pro tip: book a tour with WHTT early on in your trip, because there are definitely places worth taking an extra visit after the tour is over. Muito obrigado Bruno e Mannu!

Overall very nice tour with a knowledgeable and polite guide. The tour to Sintra includes a meal too! However, a MASSIVE omission for me was the fact that we were not taken to see the famous National Palace of Pena, the actual landmark of the area. Hence the three stars.

Lisbon (Lisboa) is a big city and not easy to get to know in a couple of days. When you ve walked through some of the cool neighbourhoods and need something a little different, I highly recommend We Hate Tourism Tours! We spent the day with Nuno on the Sinatra Cascais tour and had a fantastic time seeing the beautiful little villages and absolutely stunning views outside of the Lisbon core. We ate and drank local fare, got the inside scoop from Nuno and had a very personalized tour that often avoided some of the very over-crowded tourist traps. Definitely 5 +

The thought of a four-hour walking tour on a hot summer day in Lisbon was a bit intimidating as we began our day. However, our tour guide Joao took us on a comfortable yet aggressive walk through the heart of Lisbon. We were joined by another couple who added to the adventure by asking thoughtful questions and providing insights. Highlights included an artful history of Portugal/Lisbon as painted by local artists, a visit to a patisserie for a warm Pastel de Nada, and a stroll through downtown. We detoured a few times when our group wanted to explore an interesting new-found site and yet stayed on time and on course. A terrific experience and a great host. Thanks Joao!!!

David was a great tour guide. He was very knowledgeable about the local history and was laid back and fun to engage with. Our tour started early in the morning and we fit so much into the day. We wouldnt have been able to see half of the sites on our own in the time we had. He knew a bunch of great spots, and as we were travelling with kids, we were able to go at a our own pace. Everyone on our tour had a fantastic time and we all said we would use We Hate Tourism Tours again.

I did the Sintra/Cascais tour and believe me when I say it was absolutely fabulous! Nuno was our guide and he was so knowledge, let us have some time on our own at each spot which was great, taught us so much about the history and culture of Portugal and to add to that he had a terrific personality and was a real sweetheart! There was 5 of us in a van not 50 of us in a big bus. Best money I spent while here in Portugal! If I could give this tour 10 stars I would! Highly recommended!!

This was a fabulous way to get a understanding of the city of Porto but also the culture of the people. Teresa is a warm and insightful host. Just like you were out with a friend showing you their city.

Our guide Teresa had us rapt from the beginning to the end of our 3 hour plus walking tour of Porto. We learned the history of Porto and Portugal, what landmarks signified and where to shop and eat. She covered so much ground and information on our tour that we felt right at home. Our family group of seven were very, very pleased with our experience. I wish we could give 10 stars.

Nuno Lopes de Paula met us at the designated location and took us on the most wonderful tour of Sintra and Cascais. He was personable, knowledgeable, and incredibly funny, making the tour one of the best experiences we had while in Portugal. When we return to Portugal we will definitely do additional We Hate tours, asking for Nuno, but expecting that everyone will likely have the same love and passion for what We Hate does to distinguish themselves from every other tour type available. We learned so much about Sintra s history, architecture, and present day comings-and-goings. We loved it!

We had a truly memorable day with Manu as our guide, one of the main highlights of our month long trip around Europe. He was engaging, extremely knowledgeable, and a great sense of (very dryyyy) authentic humor that was appreciated. Visiting local sites and places to eat through the eyes of a local resident added even more to the experience. I cannot recommend this company enough and would have no hesitation to book with them again if we make it back to Portugal in the future. As some reviews have mentioned, this is more of an intimate tour (only 6 guests total for our trip) which allows you to really get to know the guides and ask more in depth questions and open dialogue for the culture of Portugal. We are already recommending this to our friends that are visiting Portugal soon.

Really great experience if you want to get away from the tourist crowds and get honest thoughts about their city from real Lisboans! We had fascinating discussions both about the history of the city, its little quirks, and current issues such as gentrification and mass tourism, and we toured spots I would never have explored in another walking tour. Each guide seems to make their own tour according to their interests and local neighborhood, so every tour is unique, and guides will give LOADS of recommendation on any subject/activity you are interested in. Recommended for those who want to notice the little things that others miss and get a more nuanced understanding of Lisbon culture. Voor de 2e keer een tour gedaan met We hate tourism. Eerder in Lissabon en nu in Porto. Teresa heeft ons meegenomen op een super walkingtour door de stad. Start op een plekje wat je echt moet weten met echte traditionele tapas en daarna lopend door de stad langs plekjes die we nog niet eerder zelf hadden ontdekt. Ze heeft een hoop te vertellen en past zich gemakkelijk aan je wensen aan. De afsluiter met een portproeverij mocht natuurlijk niet ontbreken. Ook de communicatie loopt heel soepel, we hadden hier en daar wat aanpassingen maar alles was op te lossen en snel contact via de mail. Al met al een aanrader!

Nuno was an excellent guide, storyteller and historian. We were a small group of 4 pax, and what I liked the most is that we had genuine conversations about each topic, it wasnt just some guides monologue. We actually learned a lot in a few hours, there was a lot of food for thought and everything was nicely put into context. The alleys and streets we visited were also great, none of which we had seen in 3 days in Lisbon. I would recommend taking this trip in the beginning of your stay, as these guys have a lot of great recommendations as to how to improve your itinerary! Date of experience: July 2022

We booked a full day trip to Sintra with WHTT and it was one of the beat decisions we made for our lisbon trip. Nunu was great and very informative. The experice was personalized and with just 6 people, we got to take in everything. The restaurant Nunu decided to take us was exceptional. Over all a great experience! Would highly recommend.

Today we had a walking tour of Lisbon with Lily, and she was fantastic. Full of personality and information. I feel like I truly got to know Lisbon in a way I never would have walking around on my own or doing a more traditional attractions tour. It was the perfect morning. She even offered to communicate after the tour should we need any other advice during our stay. Above and beyond!

Best city tour ever. I would always prefer this to a free walking tour. Group size was perfect (7). We got a lot of background information and went to places where there were no tourists although the city was quite crowded.

Excellent tour of Sintra & Lisbon with Mannu & David. We had 2 vans and they were great about coordinating so we were together. They know their city & country well and provided interesting commentary throughout the tour. They were prompt in picking up and gave us additional time on the back end. Marta was also terrific to work with in setting up our tour. I would not hesitate to book with them again for future trips.

I live in Sintra and regularly see your tour bus being passive aggressive and not allowing other cars to pass as you prioritise your tour. I appreciate this is good for your business but is the reason why us locals hate the tours. Be kind and let people pass. Edit (response to the owner): hard to miss your vans, and seen this behaviour a few times around Monserrate your customers seem happy so was surprised by the driver flipping the bird.

Exceeded all expectations! Review of We Hate Tourism Tours We booked a tour in 2017 with We Hate Tourism...we had the best time ever, so we booked 3 more tours! We had the best time, Marta really helped us out with planning all the little details of our trip. I told her what we wanted to do and she came up with a very affordable itinerary! She came up with a car seat for the baby and so many other details that made our trip stress free! We just did a wine tour in the Douro Valley out of Porto. Nelson was the guide and he took us to MÃOS E IRMÃOS. We sat around a huge family dining table while they served us a home cooked meal and plenty of delicious wine! The food was excellent, the hosts were excellent and the experience far exceeded my expectations! This will be forever my favorite tour! Paulo was our tour guide in Lisboa, he also exceeded all our expectations! He was so sweet and kind. He actually bought the baby a small talking toy to help her learn Portuguese! Both of these guides were more than generous with their t humor, kindness and time. None of the tours ended on time, they both acted like we were old friends coming to see them in Portugal, they acted like they had nothing better to do then hang out with us. I cant say enough about We Hate Tourism tours! If we go back to Portugal (hopefully) there is no doubt they will be the first I will call to help arrange our tours.

We just returned from a visit to Lisbon and Porto and used WHTT in both cities for a few private tours. Our entire group had a wonderful experience. Each of the guides were fun, interesting people who know their respective cities/specialties intimately and love showing them to their guests. They really take the time to show off local spots that you would never find without spending a great deal of time exploring each area and that alone makes them valuable. Wir waren im November als Gruppe von 11 Personen mit Mannu und David unterwegs und haben eine X-Tages-Reise (Sintra & Cascais) gemacht. Vorab gesagt - die Tour war grandios. Wir wurden mit zwei Vans direkt am Hotel abgeholt und hatten einen großartigen Empfang. Die beiden sind super sympathisch. Sie zeigten uns auf Ihre Art Sintra, Cabo da Roca, Cascais. Zudem noch den Park und das Schloss von Monserrate (wunderschön und nicht so überlaufen wie Pena-Palast) und direkt an der Küste haben wir noch einen Stopp gemacht abseits von den ganzen Touristen. Das eingeplante Mittagessen war einfach nur super lecker und es war für alle was dabei (Vegetarier inklusive ). Bucht euch eine Tour mit WeHateTourismTours und kommt selbst in den Genuss mit Freunden Lissabon und die Umgebung in entspannter Atmosphäre zu erkunden.

We had booked to Sintra and the Beach for 75 per Person. It was worth every Euro. We were driven in a nice van by manu who was our driver & guide. Such a great Person, who knew so much about Lissabon and sintra. Sintra was great, then we went to a small village for lunch, we had great authentic food with locals at refugio do ciclista , it was so nice and delicious (the wine was awesome). Afterwards he Drove us to a beach and another village. Just want to say to everybody, guys do that tour, its worth it because its authentic and Not a regular tour. Well I must say the tour was a bit disappointing but also it was because of the bad weather we got. My husband had an amazing experience with the company 4 years ago and that s why we chose this again for us and our friends. We spent more than 40 mins at the meeting point where was much colder as it was on the top of the hill. I wish we went to a cafe or something and look into a map and photos for the explanation. Our tour guid was a lovely lady but she definitely needs some more visual materials & systematic methods of guiding.

I absolutely love the crew at WHTT! Had an incredible experience with them in 2018, booked them for my wedding, and now again for a more intimate tour with friends for our first post-Covid trip in Portugal. I wish we could award more than 5 stars -- if you are considering booking a tour, do it! Our tour with Nuno from We Hate Tourism Tours genuinely was a highlight of our trip! Nuno was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and adapted the tour based on our interests and to avoid places that we had already explored in our time in Portugal. Its clear that he loves what he does. From the initial booking process to requesting an adjustment due to weather, the process was seamless and simple. Everyone we interacted with via email or in person was so kind, and we are already plotting our return trip to Portugal and cant wait to book with WHT again!

Great local guides with an attitude towards sustainability and culture

We loved having a different and fun perspective of Lisbon. Done other tours, but this was the best so far.

This tour hit the right spot with myself and my husband, we did not want to be on a big bus with crowds of people. We were extra lucky that we were the only 2 on the tour that day and our guide spoiled us, and went completely out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our day. He was full of interesting facts and a pleasure to be in his company. Highly recommend this tour, i felt i knew lisbon after the day.

After discovering We Hate Tourism Tours (WHTT) through a Google search a week before our departure for a family vacation in Lisbon, being intrigued by their website and impressed with the online reviews, we booked both the Dinner with Us evening and the X Day Trip/Sintra and Cascais. A great decision on our part as both experiences were fantastic. I must admit to having some trepidation prior to the Dinner with Us experience on our second night in Lisbon. We were travelling as a family (me, my wife and two adult children) and the thought of having dinner with a complete stranger gave me pause. However, we had the good fortune of having Manuel (Mannu) as our WHTT dinner host, and the evening could not have been more enjoyable. Any qualms we had about dinner with a stranger quickly dissipated within minutes of meeting Mannu. He was funny, friendly, informative, interesting, witty and just an all-round wonderful host/guide/person. The evening itinerary was perfect. Dinner was at an authentic Portuguese restaurant well off the beaten path where we enjoyed local cuisine washed down with lots of wine and punctuated with great conversation and informative anecdotes from Mannu. Following dinner we enjoyed a tour of Lisbon sights (including a stop for custard tarts at the infamous Pasteis de Belem which is much more enjoyable sans the daytime lineups) and a drink of port whilst enjoying a hilltop view of Lisbon. The evening flew by and we were sorry it had to come to an end but also delighted to discover that Mannu would also be our guide for the Sintra/Cascais excursion the next morning (although worried that Mannu may have had enough of us by then :)). The Sintra/Cascais tour was excellent. We saw so many wonderful sights all explained/introduced in a humorous but informative manner by Mannu. We walked around Sintra, enjoyed a delightful lunch in a small (but packed) restaurant, a tour of Monserrate Palace and its spectacular grounds, the magnificent landscape of Cabo da Roca (the western most point in Europe) and visited Cascais on our way back to Lisbon (where we enjoyed a drink of port to celebrate the end of a wonderful day with Mannu and our fellow guests). Any company can drive you around and show you the sites. What sets WHTT apart in my view is the quality of the people. Obviously, as I have noted above, Mannu was a huge reason we enjoyed both of our WHTT excursions so much. But everybody with whom we interacted at WHTT was delightful. On our third day in Lisbon, we went to the Time Out Market for brunch and decided to visit the LX Factory, an eclectic mix of shops, bars and restaurants where WHTTs offices are located. We visited the WHTT office to buy a t-shirt (or more) and met the delightful Catarina who could not have been more friendly, helpful and welcoming. We ended up buying t-shirts and some art as mementoes of a wonderful experience and a highlight of our vacation. I must say that our experience with WHTT was one of (if not the) best we have ever had with an organized tour company and we would not hesitate to recommend the company to anybody visiting Portugal. Obrigado WHTT!

We planned a costum made bachelor party in Porto in March. From the first email on Gonzi treated me like a friend who comes to visit his city and not like a tourist. We were all looking forward to go but due to the covid situation we had to cancel. They are as professional as friendly because we got the refund immediately. While in Portugal we went on two separate tours with WHTT -- one to Sintra/Cascais and another in Porto. Both were a blast. Our guides were funny and insightful, but also allowed us to experience each stop in our own way. Well be coming back as soon as its safe to do so, and well definitely be booking with WHTT again.

Just as the name says. They are everything but touristy. I took a tour of Sintra and nearby places with them. The group was small, the gentleman driving us around was amazing, lot of fun and gave information in a very fun manner. It was worth every penny (having that said, it wasnt expensive at all). I will be going to Lisbon again very soon and would meet these guys again... More power to you guys... I really enjoyed myself.

My boyfriend and i used this group for a tour back in 2019 ..in the spring.. we travel often ..so are aware of what we want.. the people deliver.. fun, factual and interesting.they offer different trips depending on how active you want to be.. our tour went to Sintra, Caiscai and surrounding area.. we ate at a local restaurant run by a a brother and sister..delicious meal.. in a wonderful atmosphere. we visited an estate that had been refurbished back in the nineteenth century awesome.. stopped to take photos at the western most point in Europe. we were very happy with our tour and her experience and knowledge.. loved Portugal...her people and foods..

João was our tour guide in June 2019. He was on time, funny, and a wonderful tour guide. He drove us around all over the city and showed us areas that were frequented by locals, not tourists. It was lovely to see a side of Lisbon we wouldnt normally get to see as first timers. My favorite was Miradouro Panorâmico de Monsanto. What a jaw-dropping site!

Bought a ticket for Lunch in our Home because I loved the authentic vibe of the website and mission. Just walking the streets to get to the lunch location, I knew I was in the right part of town to truly experience Lisbon. Walked past butcher and seafood shops, news/tobacco shops, finally found my way into the location for lunch. The food was amazing, met some super friendly other tourists, even had sausage cooked on an alcohol tabletop grill (apparently what some people do, and I ended up buying one later to take home with me). The hosts told some real stories about how Lisbon got to where it is today. And I almost forgot about the wine! I knew this was the vibe/group I was looking for on my travels, so almost immediately after I booked another ticket for the Sintra/Cascais tour, which was blast. Quinta da Regaleira was one of the most interesting places Ive ever been. The hosts/guides from WHTT were the best, made the group of strangers feel welcomed. These experiences form a lot of why Ive returned to Portugal several times over the years. Great people and solid value!

Ich habe mit 3 Freunden über We Hate Tourism Tours die Surfexperience gebucht und es war viel besser, als wir es erwartet hatten! Zuerst ging es mit einem Kleinbus durch die Stadt und über die große Brücke raus aus Lissabon. Da sich niemand weiteres angemeldet hatte, waren wir nur zu dritt + Guide, also eine total angenehme Atmosphäre. (Maximal wäre eine 8-ter Gruppe möglich gewesen) Nach einem kleinen Rundgang in einem schmalen Fischerort ging es endlich zum Surfhotspot, wo die Lehrerin der Surfschule übernommen hat. Am Ende der Surfstunde waren wir doch ziemlich kaputt, da es anstrengender ist als gedacht, sich jedes Mal wieder aufs Neue aus dem Wasser raus zu hieven! Zum Abschluss am Strand, hatte der Guide ein kleines Picknick vorbereitet, was nach der Anstrengung echt super war. Bevor es wieder nach Hause ging, machten wir halt an einer Steilklippe von der man die komplette Küste überblicken konnte. Ein super Abschluss für einen Tag der immer positiv in Erinnerung bleiben wird. Ich kann daher We Hate Tourism wärmstens empfehlen!

Geweldige tour gehad vandaag! De gids, Martha, legt alles extreem goed uit en heeft zelfs de tour 1 uur langer laten duren zodat wij alles konden zien. De tour met de jeep was awesome. Het is een fijne manier om de stad te ontdekken! Heb veel geleerd en gezien in een paar uur. Het leukste vond ik nog dat aan het begin van de tour de gids vraagt wat je al gezien en of bezocht hebt en de tour daarop aanpast zodat je niet 2x hetzelfde ziet. En ze sluiten de tour af met een hele leuke verrassing! Ze zijn zeer attent en de jeep tour is zeker een aanrader! Als ik weer in Lissabon kom zal ik een andere tour met ze boeken!

In April 2019, my wife and I (in our mid 80s) had a highly informative and delightfully different tour of Sintra with Mimi, our WHTT guide, and three other extremely interesting, but much younger (20s and 30s) women (one from Ireland and two from the US). Not only did we enjoy seeing various sites, we had a great time discussing a wide variety of things with our fellow van mates. Unfortunately, it was all cut short midway through the tour when I clumsily gashed my lower leg rather severely! Mimi (and a fellow tour guide, Pedro) responded to the situation amazingly well, with Pedro meeting our group and completing the tour for the other folks while Mimi shepherded me and my wife to the security office at Cascais, which sent us to a local fire station, which in turn sent us to a local hospital, where my wound was stitched up. She then took us all the way back to our Lisbon hotel (not just the WHTT office), despite the fact that she and Pedro had tickets for a concert that night! She (and Pedro) certainly performed above and beyond the call of duty! Because of all this, we would certainly book future tours with WHTT and we highly recommend them to others. Incidentally, because my wound required frequent cleansing and bandaging throughout the remainder of our trip, we saw an aspect of Portugal that most tourists miss; their health care system. Despite our unfamiliarity with the country and the language, we easily found appropriate medical centers throughout the country, which took care of my injury with little bureaucratic paperwork and essentially insignificant cost! Not your usual City tour & because of that its brilliant! The small groups are guided by local professional, interesting & passionate people who take you to the usual & unusual places. Great for people of all ages . We came across these guys in Lisbon & were blown away by the quality of the tour so when the following year we went to Porto, we booked them there & we had another great experience. Highly recommended.

This year 2020 is anything but normal. I was in Lisbon for vacation in 2017 and had a tour and I have to say it definitely is a different experience, in the positive way. Open minded, funny, relaxed and I received an email that they struggle mostly from this year as many from the tourism industry. I do struggle as well as I do not have a job. I hope you will find a way to continue. This company definitely should gain an award. Hope you will make it or find another way.

This is one of my favorite tours Ive taken! Sintra is fascinating, the ice cream at Belen was amazing, and the fresh fruit on the side of the road was great. I remember this tour 9 years later.

Wij hadden de Surf Experience vanuit Lissabon geboekt. Het was een heerlijke dag: we werden opgepikt in het centrum, via dé brug naar zee. Onderweg in een klein dorpje werden er boodschappen gedaan voor de lunch. Privé surflessen vervolgd, goede instructrice. Daarna een lekkere lunch op het strand. Daarna via de kust weer naar Lissabon waar we op het hoofdkantoor nog groene wijn hebben gedronken. Het was erg laagdrempelig en heel erg gezellig. Aanrader!!!!

I booked a tour through Lisbon and was picked up from Manuel. Due to the current situation it was only the two of us, however it didnt minimize the experience. I have never learned and seen so much of a city in this short amount of time. At the same time I felt locally connected because of Manuels personal experiences as he grew up in the city. Therefore, totally recommended

I have been on multiple Tours throughout the years and they are definitely the best city tours I have seen so far. The whole team is amazing, we had so much fun during the tours and they were a great and welcome change from the usual (often a little boring, lenghty) city tours you find in a lot of cities. These tours are exciting, fun, very individual, passionate and a really great concept!

My favorite City tour ever, they are so good when I came back to Lisbon I redid the same tour, and what I really appreciated was they change some of the spots to avoid crowds (between my tours, the tour ran as listed both times. Ill go again next time Im in Lisbon

I spent a week in Lisbon with some friends back in 2012. We stumbled across We Hate Tourism Tours quite by accident. But their concept sounded great so we booked a tour. They showed us the city and the surrounding area for a whole day. The driver was extremely friendly, entertaining us with fun facts and inside knowledge. Off course, we went to some touristy spots but also to some secluded places your wouldnt typically find as a tourist. The driver even adjusted the schedule for us if we wanted to stay longer at a place we particularly loved and made a detour to show us the beach. All in all a great experience that I would love to repeat next time I come to Lisbon.

I can highly recommend we hate tourism tour! It is not like the typical lame tourist tour you know from other cities, its like you meet friends, they show you their city and favorite places and you just have a good time. We did one tour in Lisboa with Miguel and one in Porto with Bruno and both were just awesome. If you go to Portugal you have to visit these guys!

Our guide was friendly and funny and everything and he answered all of our questions. We went to a few cool, insider places and had some wonderful wine and snacks. Our We Hate Tourism day-trip tour of Lisbon and a few surrounding cities was a highlight of our honeymoon. The guides were wonderful, kind, and knowledgeable. My husband and I were interested in a more authentic and local experience - WHT delivered! I still dream about the lunch we had of vinho verde, chicken chorizo, bread, and soft cheese with olive oil. Our tour went to Lisbon, Cascais, and Sintra. Beautiful!

Irreverent? Absolutely. Humorous? Frequently. Thorough and informative? Yes, I promise you! I took two of the tours offered by this excellent organization on my first two days I at Lisbon, in May 2017. I wish I d have had time for more of their trips. The Sintra tour is a doozy! Youll head to that city first, and your guide will drive you to the upper levels of the city and give you time to stroll down the tiny streets until you find yourself literally DOWNtown. Then youll head to the beautiful Monserrate, where there is a beautiful palace, even more lovely grounds filled with all sorts of plant life, indigenous and exotic. After Monserrate you will be taken to what seems like the middle of nowhere - and it IS! The wonderful eatery offered some of the best cheese and sausage Ive ever tasted, great local wine and very fresh tomatoes - to die for.The atmosphere is picnic-like, much more fun than the more normal tours that feed you dull and predictable lunches at restaurants geared only to tourists. This place and served one of my favorite meals in the three weeks I spent in Portugal. On next to Cabo da Roca, westernmost point in Continental Europe. Dramatic cliffs and strong seas smashing away at them, the place is a real beauty. Then, after two secrets of sorts that I wont give away, you end at the posh resort town of Cascais, where you ll have time to stroll around at your leisure. The equally fine City Intro tour takes you out of old Lisbon to one of the coolest parts of the city, the Parque das Nacoes and next to it the wonderful Oriente rail station. Then back to the old town for one of the best views of the city and the castle. Lunch is again casual but wonderful, consisting of...well I have one word for you: bifana - delicious! on a street near the cathedral. Finally out to Cristo Res (Christ the King), inspired by Rios Christ the Redeemer statue, via the 25 April Bridge (the name marks Portugals independence day), which was inspired by the Golden Gate - youll love the views from the statue looking across the bay to old Lisbon. Last, a lovely park Id never have visited but for this tour - there you get - shhh! a surprise! And another surprise when your guide drops you off at Praca Camoes, where the tour began. DO take these two tours, at least. Both guides were excellent in VERY different ways - and even though they hate tourism , they are real pros at what they do! Obrigado to both of them, and to everyone at We Hate Tourism - now, so do I!

We were in Lisbon in 2019 and took a tour around the city, the tour was informative, quirky and fun , a great mix which made it memorable.

We The Tourists Loves We Hate Tourism Tours! We NEVER do guided tours when we travel! But in April 2012 we happened to see at folder advertising We Hate Tourism Tours. The name alone led us to book a tour and it was a great experience, super fun and charming guide and the ability to actually show us the REAL Lisbon as they know and love it. We would take the tour again anytime - if we ever get back to beautiful Lisbon.

I have been on two tours with these guys and loved both trips - totally unique, interesting and a responsible approach to tourism where you actually feel like you are experiencing local things without pissing locals off! My parents also loved the tour and it gave them the chance to see Sintra, Cascais and surrounds. Our hosts were funny and accommodating. I cant wait to return to Lisboa and try another tour!

I booked this tour on a whim with a friend, and it turned out to be one of the best days of my trip to Lisbon! This tour takes you to so many cool corners, but does so in a way where you feel like you re seeing the must see spots through the eyes of a local instead of following the beaten tourist path. We took the dinner tour and the Sintra tour and had an incredible time at both. The guides were knowledgeable, fun, and achingly cool. Like the popular kids in high school that also manage to be super nice to everyone. It was like being taken on a tour by a close friend, with visits to spots that are beyond the usual tourist spots. I d give them 6 stars if I could. If we ever visit Lisbon again, we ll be sure to book another couple of tours with them.

I Hate Tourism tours made my Portugal trip! I traveled alone in 2016 and joining their group tours made the experience so enjoyable. Their company is creative and fun but you will learn a lot as well. I tell anyone I know that is traveling to Portugal that they are a must!

Wir haben die X-Day -Tour mitgemacht - eine unbedingte Empfehlung. Eine kleine international gemischte Gruppe. Einerseits total professionell (die buchung klappte via Internet super, die Kommunikation, bei der wir immer wussten, was passiert. Pünktlich, was nicht selbstverständlich ist). Andrerseits total locker (so zeigt man Freunden seine Lieblingsplätze). Es gibt einen ungefähren Tagesablauf. Aber man kommt wunderbar ins Quatschen, und daraus ergeben sich Varianten zum Vorschlag des Fahrers (bei uns übrigens Joao. Danke!). Das Märchenschloss hat so viel Spaß gemacht. Ebenfalls die Steilküste ganz im Westen. Schön auch solche Situationen wie Hier darf man nicht parken mit Zeig aufs Schild - und schwupps rechts ran und geparkt. Alles in allem super kurzweilig.

The best tour Ive ever taken. It helps you see the city from the perspective of the people that live there. You discover places and foods and stories you would otherwise completely miss. You get the big economic and political picture and the funny local details. You reflect on the true impact of tourism and your role as a tourist - the good, the bad and the ugly. After the tour, I felt the guide was a close friend, and the city was a little bit my own. Cannot recommend it more!

Yesterday I did the daytrip to Sintra/Cascais and Cabo da Roca (the most western point of Europe) and had an awesome experience with Thiago! You wanna know why? I only booked the day before as a single person and it says that tours will only take place with at least two people. Then I got an email in the early evening that I m the only one but they will do the tour with me alone. Additionally Thiago picked me up directly at my accomodation that morning. What a service! During the day I could ask him every question regarding the trip, Portugal, the culture, history, soccer, ... what so ever! We had a really nice time and he also did me a spontanious stop at a beach to watch the surfers for some minutes (we were talking about surfing before) :) But back to the real tour: We had a nice trip to Sintra, arrived early and started with a lonely and lovely view over the city before exploring some of it and trying a local speciality together with a coffee. Afterwards I had some freetime at a lovely palace with an awesome parc/garden, including underground tunnels. For lunch he invited me to a secret family restaurant on top of a mountain without any tourists and with an authentic portugese meal for workers. The food was really nice but the experience itself was even better! On our way to Cascais we stopped at the most western point of Europe (Cabo da Roca) and a lovely beach to watch surfers. In Cascais I also learned a lot about the houses and history before having some free time to walk around as well and then heading back to Lisbon. Well what to say as a conclusion? I cannot say more than THANK YOU and book a tour with them! Those guys do an awesome job and show you the real highlights. :)

We Hate Tourism Tours is a fantastic company that I cannot speak highly enough about. These are not cookie-cutter, run-of-the-mill tours - they are awesome experiences that feel like youre exploring the cities with friends. I did a tour with them for the first time when I travelled to Portugal by myself in 2016 and had such an incredible experience. I ended up doing two tours with them on that trip - one that was dinner at a local restaurant and another that was a day trip to Sintra - and both have left me with memories that will last a lifetime. I did more tours with them on a second trip to Portugal in 2017 that I took with my boyfriend - on that trip, we did the King of the Hills Jeep tour in Lisbon and general tour of Porto. I walked away with lifelong friends and memories from all tours with them! They are, without a doubt, one of the top highlights of my time spent in Portugal!

Someone recommended this tour option to me and Im so glad they did! It was a fun, relaxing, informative, well-paced experience (in Lisbon). The Tours by We hate tourism tours were absolut highlights in Lisbon, a must do! We booked the X Daytrip Sintra with all the hidden places around lisbon and the spectacular coast. It was really exciting. Our guide did a great job and presented wonderful views and moments.

My family of five had two great private tours with them. Marta and Luis were fantastic. Luis took us to Fatima, Nazare, and Obidos. We really had a great day. It was just before Christmas on a Sunday but Luis didnt miss a beat and he was so knowledgeable about the sites. We thoroughly enjoyed. Marta was also just great. My girls and I had a lovely day touring setubal and arribida. She was so interesting to listen too. Very flexible in her approach . We joined the DINNER WITH US AND BELÉM in Lisbon. Communication and Pick-Up where easy. With a small group we drove around in Lisbon and went to a restaurant outside of the city - only being visited by locals. The foot was amazing with great variety - it felt like going out with some friends. We learned a lot about food in Portugal and (what is most important) had a lot of fun. Afterwards we went to nice drive in Lisbon, getting some more food and visiting places at night you would normally not have in your mind - that gave a surprising perspective to this city. This trip was a highlight during our stay in Lisbon.

We booked the X-Day tour to Sintra and Cascais. Marcos was our guide and he was so friendly and enthusiastic. The sights that Marcos took us to were incredible. We loved our day so much, we went home to book the Dinner and Belém tour for another day on our trip. We were thrilled that Marcos was our guide again, and he really made the night fantastic, showing us the city in such a fun and charismatic way. Highly recommend!

We visited Lisbon for one day as part of a cruise, and booked the Pirates of the Cruise Ships tour, where they pick you up and drop you off at the cruise terminal. What a great decision that was! We saw lots of different aspects of Lisbon and its surrounding towns and scenery, as well as having a great lunch with plenty of wine. And all the time we were engaged in lively conversation with our guide not just the standard tour guide lecture, but getting real insight into Lisbon life and Portugal as a whole. A really excellent day.

My husband, two teens and I did the dinner tour and city tour in Porto and the Sintra tour and city tour in Lisbon. All the tours with this company were amazing. This was our first time in Portugal and we usually don t work with tour companies but WHTT s philosophy was very appealing to us. What sets WHTT apart is the guides. They are a group of very smart and socially aware guys. Our favorite guide in Lisbon was Pedro. It was a pleasure to learn about Portugal from him. Don t follow the guides with the little flags that just recite a list of dates. Hire these guys instead. You will love them.

A very successful tour! We chose the king of the hill tour which was supposed to be with a jeep but because of the rain we traveled with a van (it really didnt matter to us). The guide is cool, showed us great places to eat/hang out/hike plus interesting and brief historical explanations about Lisbon. A relatively intimate atmosphere and through it we were exposed to the authentic and local Lisbon.

We toured both Lisbon, Sintra and the coast like between the two over the course of a day and had an absolute blast doing so. Ana was a fantastic host and really impressed us with her knowledge, humor and parking ability. I would recommend this without a doubt.

Please don t overlook this gem in Lisbon! Our guide, Miguel, was a local with a wealth of knowledge and some serious driving skills. The tour was fabulous and I enjoyed the fact that there were only 7 in our group so everyone could hear our guide. There were some great surprises to enjoy in this city. So, don t climb on or hop off, take this tour instead.

We had lunch at 12:30 PM There was only 2 of us The food was incredible and the wine is always good. Our host was great and he had a sense of the world. We exchanged ideas and he agreed on most of our opinions.

This tour is pretending to be something that is not, tourist guide (better say driver) takes you to few places and leave you there some certain time to explore it yourself. Their knowledge of Portugal history is poor, even for those few places (castel, town of Sintra) they have only limited information. So if you want someone to transfer you / drive you around with the van to those places than is ok but for 57 EUR one would expect much more. Reply on reply: I do not know what are you talking about; I was on on your tour last Monday, Sofia was the driver, I can send you the ticket. Rather unusual way of taking criticsm from your side; instead trying to improve. Best regards.

Wir haben den X-DAY TRIP nach Sintra, Cascais, usw. gebucht und wurden nicht enttäuscht! Ein paar Tage davor haben wir noch eine Info erhalten, dass wir eine halbe Stunde früher starten, um den Verkehr etwas zu umgehen. Jeder besuchte Spot war für sich ein Highlight und auch das Essen in einem Restaurant, dass eher nur von Einheimischen besucht wird, war sehr autentisch. Unser Reiseleiter Miguel (the worst driver ever ;-)) hat uns sehr viel zur Geschichte und Kultur Portugals erzählt und war immer zu einem Spaß aufgelegt. Englisch sollte man auf jeden Fall halbwegs können. Alles in allem ein sehr entspannter und lustiger Tag, und wir konnten super Fotos machen.

As a person who works in tourism I do not take tours! However; I m so happy I did. I researched voraciously and found these tours. Our guide Marcos, was fun, knowledgeable, and kept the group laughing! The food at the restaurant was delicious and we tried many things! As a food tour operator I m quite picky about food quality and this was perfect! The drive after the tour at night highlighted the city and there were touches that you ll just have to take the tour to find out! Enjoy. I did.

If there were 10 stars we would rate this a 10/10. My husband and I got extremely lucky to have had this tour by ourselves (wooo private!). Miguel was ourguide but quickly became our friend. This experience was everything we hoped it would be and more. Miguel knew soooo much about the city it was truly amazing. What we loved most was the genuine passion for bringing Lisbon to life by Miguel. Miguel was authentic and apologetically himself. Miguel gave us so many great tips on where to eat, where the locals would be, where the party in the Alfama would be etc. (I could go on and on about all of the tips). When we were driving people were stopping to speak with Miguel - he was a local celebrity! We took his advice and spent the evening in LX where he told us would be a market and we were blown away! Our only regret was A) not visiting the office to say hi while we were in LX and not booking other experiences with this group of amazing people. We are already planning our next trip back to Portugal and We Hate Tourism is TOP PRIORITY to incorporate. We LOVE Lisbon and we learned so much! Die etwas andere Tour. Wir haben schon zum zweiten mal die Dinner with us and Belem Tour gemacht und was soll ich sagen ich würde sie wieder buchen. Kurz gesagt 8 Personen plus Begleiter gehen Abendessen und anschließend gehts raus nach Belem zu Kaffee und Portwein. Sehr gutes Essen und Trinken, nette Gespräche mit Reisenden aus aller Welt und Nachts in Belem, da ist fast kein Tourist mehr da. Muito obrigado!

Took the Sintra/Cascais tour with Marcos on Sunday 16/6 and tbh we were a little disappointed. It was more of a hop on hop off bus than an actual tour as we were simply dropped from place to place and explored on our own. I would have really liked the tour to include quinta de regaleira, but I guess that is my personal preference. The gardens we visited in sintra were great but the palace didnt really compare to the ones that many people visit in nearby Spain. Could probably cut out one of the 4 stops to give a little more time at each. Also, I get that lunch was basic to keep prices down but we would have liked something a little better than a roll with chorizo and cheap cask wine. Even a basic salad on the side or or something else would make a big difference. Marcos was a friendly guide and good company for the day.

The best way to discover Lisbon is through these guys. Really recommended. Over the years we booked several trips with them and they never disappointed us. We discovered the center of Lisbon and the places surrounding the city going as far as the Cabo da Roca lighthouse. Most memorable was the town of Sintra with the quinta da regaleira park, the palaces and the famous House Of Port. We booked several private trips, making them real personal experiences. If we wanted to stay longer somewhere? No problem! Over the years Marcos has become like a personal driver and we always ask if hes available. But rest asure, the whole company spirit is just great so you cant go wrong with Miguel, Ana or any of the other drivers. Just do it! You will have fun!

At the last minute (ok, minutes) one morning at breakfast, we were looking at options for the day and came upon the We Hate Tourism Tours website. The site and tours looked great; one of the reason everything was so intriguing was the difference from the other run-of-the-mill tours and canned site set up. The only available tour that day (again, we were looking during breakfast) was lunch with a local. We signed up and met our host and a group of great people in a really cool revitalized mill area on the waterfront. This area was teaming with life and had very interesting shops, studios, and places to eat. Our guide met us with drinks and we got a quick overview of our upcoming experience while he and we got to know one another. We then strolled into the mill s former cafeteria for our meal. The cafeteria had been remodeled into a very industrial restaurant with great decor. We sat at a round table for 8, were served very tasty local food and wine, and had a long and enjoyable lunch talking with our guide about local history, politics, economy and cultural issues. It was extremely interesting and fun. We then toured part of the mill area shops and went into the We Hate Tourism office for further history and recommendations for things to do ... oh, and some more wine. The whole experience was awesome. We highly recommend this tour as well as any others provided by We Hate Tourism Tours.

Experience a Porto Dinner and Night out Tour with Bruno...You will not go wrong! He has a captivating fun energy and was extremely knowledgable about Porto, oh and you will never find someone who can park a mini van in the smallest of spaces quite as well as him!! He took us to a popular local fish restaurant for a dinner that I will never forget! Real deal Portuguese food! Amazing experience in my short Porto stay! Would definitely book with We Hate Tourism Tours again!

Let me start by saying that my husband and I are definitely not tour group kind of people we like privacy and setting our own schedule...But we didn t have much time in Lisbon and really wanted to make the most of it in the easiest way possible. After reading the website we thought we would really dig the vibe of We Hate Tourism Tours and decided to book the Dinner and Night tour for the first night we arrived. It was EPIC! We totally bonded with Silvia, (the other guest on our tour who was from Chicago) and especially with Marcos our warm, knowledgeable and hilarious guide. The four of us had a fabulous dinner at a terrific little place we never would have discovered on our own, then Marcos drove us all around the sparkling city, regaling us with amazing stories. He gave us our first taste of ginjinha and pasteis de nata and we were having so much fun together that the tour that was supposed to end at nine ended up going on till after midnight! It was, hands down, one of the best nights of my life. We booked two more tours with We Hate Tourism Tours (day trip to Sintra and Cascais and the King of the Hills). I would highly recommend you find time to take as many of their tours as you possibly can. Our other guides were terrific too, all very different, but each provided an incredible, personalized experience showcasing different aspects of beautiful Lisboa - a city they each obviously love deeply. I will never forget the pride and delight they all radiated while sharing their best secret spots and all the well travelled vistas with us. These folks really know their city and so many friendly people all over town. The happy greetings, waves and hugs they receive in every neighborhood will make you feel like a privileged insider. These are genuinely fantastic people! Ten stars wouldn t even be enough for our vivid and authentic experiences with them! (Epilogue: Since our Lisbon trip, Silvia and Marcos have become two of our closest friends. We ve shared several trips with Silvia back in the US and even got Marcos to come stay with us in Nashville and travel down to New Orleans to meet up with Silvia for another EPIC night! I think dear Marcos carries the infectious spirit of a life well-lived wherever he goes. If you are lucky enough to spend some time basking in his intense joie de vivre you will never forget it. We feel very grateful and transformed by that first magical night in Lisboa hopefully the first of many nights to come with our new-found life-long friends.)

My friend and I booked We Hate Tourisms Dinner Tour on a lark. It was one of our last nights in Lisbon, and we had covered a lot of ground already. Marcos, our tour leader, went above and beyond to give us a glimpse and taste of Lisbon that we couldnt have found on our own. He was incredibly informative and entertaining and we kept wishing that we had met him sooner in our travels. The whole experience felt like one of those fortuitous encounters where you make friends with a cool local who then shows you around his beloved city. Cant recommend enough!!

Im not much for organized tours and large crowds, but I like to learn about the cities I visit. We really hit the jackpot with Bruno (on a Porto evening tour). His personality, his knowledge, and his energy really made our evening. We ended up in a small fishing town in Vila Nova de Gaia - it was just perfect. Wir wollten an meinem Geburtstag etwas Besonderes machen und haben deshalb das Dinner gebucht. Nach einer wilden Fahrt mit Marcos durch Lissabon, wir waren an diesem Abend die einzigen Gäste, fanden wir uns in einem ursprünglichen portugiesischem Restaurant wieder, in das bestimmt selten ein Tourist den Fuß setzt. Das Essen und der Wein waren super lecker! Danach noch eine weitere wilde Autofahrt nach Belem mit einem leckeren noch warmen Pastel de Belem und zum Schluß am Ajuda National Palace, noch ein bis zwei Portwein getrunken. This was such a great experience. This collective organizes down-to-earth, personable and smart tours. I walked into their office space at LX factory in Lisbon and they were so friendly and relaxed. I figured out a few options and they were very accommodating when I had to make a switch. I did the Intro to Porto tour (because I found them too late into my time in Lisbon) and loved the honest and engaging tour they had put together. I felt our guide was adapting to our interests as we went along. I respect the energy of tour guides in general, but I thought the difference here was that I got a more intimate, sarcastic (which I love), and off the grid version of Porto. My guide was a great storyteller, and someone who clearly loved the good and the ugly of his city. Highly recommended.

Loved my tour of Sintra and beyond. Our guide was so knowledgeable, friendly and seemed to take a genuine interest in everyone in our group. As a solo traveller I appreciated that as sometimes you can felt a bit left out on group tours. I loved how we had time to explore on our own at each location, lunch was fantastic and something I wouldnt have experienced on my own. Wouldnt hesitate to recommend and in fact would encourage people to avail of their tours if visiting Lisbon. Excellent company and very resonably priced.

Two days, two tours! First the intro to Lisbon with Mimi. Her knowledge of Lisbon she shared with us had a clarity and understanding that included past, present and future. She indulged us with incredible tastes and sights. Giving us glimpses of the glorious & not so glorious. Next day, the affable Marcos took us the Sintra & Cascais, some spots in between. Again food and wine flowed accompanied by stories with the flair of an artist!

My girlfriend and I availed ourselves of this on our last day in Lisbon and had a total blast. Our driver (Miguel) was a riot and definitely kept us entertained. Were not really tour group people, so we were hesitant to embark on it in the first place, but they kept the group small (I think there were 8 of us total) and it ended up being a great little chance to see Lisbon and some of the surrounding areas from a locals point of view. Apparently, everything comes from Portugal. : ) Seriously though, we had a great time and would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who wants the benefits of a tour (i.e., a decision-making free day) without the lameness that usually accompanies tours (i.e., feeling like cattle being shuttled around).

Ils sont juste parfaits si vous aimez les tours en petits groupes, un guide qui ne récite pas des dates à n en plus finir et parle plutôt des gens, de la ville en général et bien sûr, un peu d histOire. J ai fait des tours avec WHTT à Porto et Lisbonne (Sintra et Cascais) et dans les deux cas, complètement enchantée par le vibe et l experience. Pour Sintra, Peña n est pas visité car trop crowdé. On les adore.

First time in Lisboa Portugal and I have the time of my life my tour guides Marta and Nunno were knowledgeable professional, courteous, fun relaxed, and super friendly. Miguel and our day in Sintra was amazing. Miguel is an extremely knowledgeable guide - about the history, culture and geography of all we saw from Lisbon to Sintra! We had the right amount of time at every stop and the lunch included was fabulous. We would strongly recommend WHTT and Miguel to anyone.

We spent two days with these guys first the Douro Valley with Z ( his name) and another day touring Porto with Nelson what a wonderful experience! We went & ate at places ordinary tourists would never find. They were both so pleasant & thoughtful you felt like you were hanging out with friends who were showing off their homes. Highest recommendation!

We had an awesome time on the DINNER WITH US OR STARVE tour! The food tasted great, the tour guide was super entertaining and hospitable, and boyyyyyyyy the green wine (a Portugal specialty) was unlimited!! It was more than just dinner, the tour afterwards was really cool too! Highly recommend for an off the beaten path kinda night to remember! Would have definitely tried more of their tours if we had the opportunity!

This is a clear recommendation for the DINNER WITH US OR STARVE tour! Dining in and driving through Lisbon with Gonzi and Jules were among the most memorable activities during our stay in Portugal. The conversation was delightful and we felt honored to spend time with them. They made us seeing the city through their eyes. Gonzi was the perfect guide sharing a crazy amount of knowledge about the city, its people and history.

Our tour X-DAY TRIP to SINTRA, CASCAIS and more with Gonçy could not have been better. We visited many beautiful places like Sintra, Cap da Roca and Cascais and could also experience the local food at lunch which was simply delicious. We also learned a lot about Portugal as Gonçy told us many interesting facts about this beautiful country. In the end, we not only had a great day but also gained a new friend with Gonçy. Obrigado!

Delightful dinner and tour with Gonzi & Jules

We took two tours with We Hate Tourism at the end of Jan - early Feb: they couldnt have been better. The tours are focused less on the face of the city (statues, dates, etc) and more on the soul of the place. Miguel took us all over Lisbon and across the river to Almada. We had a great and memorable lunch at a local favorite sandwich shop and used a post box as a table top. Two days later we went back for the Sintra tour this time with Joao and Julia. We even got an extra that satisfied our geography craving - Cabo Da Roca - on the Atlantic Coast and at one time, the edge of the world. Try these folks, you wont be disappointed. Obrigado guys!

We LOVED our tour to Sintra and Cascais with We HATE Tourism! What a great experience! Our guys were awesome, especially Toby is a highlight himself. Wir hatten die Tour Lisbon City Introduction gebucht. Gemeinsam mit João und drei netten weiteren Tourgästen aus den USA verbrachten wir schöne Stunden in Lissabon. Viele schöne Plätze besucht und viele interessante Informationen, außerhalb der üblichen Daten, erhalten. Für uns war der Lunch eines der Highlights der Tour. Super gemütlich mitten auf einem netten kleinen Platz im Schatten eines Baumes genossen wir Bifanas, grünen Wein und Orangensaft. Und João war ein perfekter Gastgeber und Kellner . Wir wurden Fans von we hate tourism !

WHTT are a great collective of knowledgable and passionate individuals who love to share the great city of Lisbon with anyone who asks! I did the dinner tour with Marcos who was so passionate and chatty - made me feel right at home, as did the guys in the office! Food was great, tour was fun (despite the terrible wet weather!), and the other people on the tour were hilarious too. Incredible tour with Manual, our guide. My wife and i took a Tour to sintra and cascais, and it couldnt have been better. Manual was funny, insightful, and informative. Tons of interesting background on the Lisbon reigon and Portugal in general. Im a keen surfer so manual told me all about the surf history in Portugal and pointed out some of the popular spots. Tour included a great lunch, some vinho Verde, pastries, and some ginja. Overall we were very happy with our tour and would highly suggest to anyone looking for a tour with a little bit of everything .

When I read on their website: We are urban diplomats of all backgrounds who grew up here in Lisbon and use local knowleadge to properly introduce visitors to the city we love. , I hoped to get a tour bypassing the normal touristy stuff, see some places which are not on a standard tour and get some background information. But the guide on our X Day Sintra Cascais Tour was just driving us to the usual touristy places (where we met the other normal tourist tours). On each stop our guide (or should I better say: driver) said, that we we ll meet at the van after X minutes and that we can now explore the place on our own. So unfortunately there was no proper introduction with local knowledge from the guide. So after reading the About Us page on their website - where you can read about unofficial Ambassadors (of Lisbon and Portugal) and continuous exchange and cultural enrichment - I expected a lot more. But unfortunately our tour was just a standard tourist tour where the guide was more or less a driver bringing us to the standard touristy places.

Our tour with Jose was great, we got many informations and also tipps how to explore Lisboa the next days. I like the philosophy of the community and the authenticy of the guide, thank you!

Die Tour war einfach großartig. Ich habe die Tour nach Sintra, Cascais und zum Cabo da Roca mitgemacht. Wenn man seine Zeit in Lissabon verbringt, ist diese Tour perfekt, um noch etwas mehr von Portugal zu sehen. Auch das Mittagessen in einem kleinen Lokal, abseits der Touristenströme war super. Wenn ich nochmal nach Lissabon komme, gibts auf jeden Fall nochmal eine Tour mit we hate tourism tours. Wirklich empfehlenswert!

Amazing experience! We took surfing tour, our guide took to the south side of Lisbon, caparica. Very laid back place with prestine and empty beaches! It was really cool to be and feel like local. Our guide was really good, polite, friendly, talkative and informative and was easy going. It felt like we were visiting old friend. Truly wonderful service and concept these guys gave us a unique experience and opportunity to feel like home! Thank you!

This tour of Lisbon was the best tour ever! My husband and I loved it. We were on a cruise ship so we went on the Pirates Tour which they time perfectly to make the most of your time in port.

They do really cool city tours. Have booked twice already (Lisbon and Porto) and each time was worth every penny. Super nice and funny tour guides with very good knowledge of all the places. The only negative point I see is that WeHateTourismTours is only located in Portugal !

Unconventional, Fun and Real. We were brought a bit more into Lisbons soul by being taken out of our tourism bubble and into day to day Lisbon. We did drive by the typical must-see spots that were easily accessible from our AirBnb but our tour was focused on parts of Lisbon that I would never have discovered. I want to go back to Lisbon just to try some of their other tours because they dont have just one type.
