We had a wonderful car. The pick up and drop off was so easy. Our flight was delayed and it was no problem at all. We had an Audi A1 and it was more than enough to explore Sao Miguel. When we picked up the car, we walked around the car together to check if there are any damages. I would also recommend getting the full coverage. When we come again we will again rent a car with them. Thank you.

Fantastic experience. Super easy in and out. Very smooth airport pickup early morning when we arrive. The car was clean and well marked with pre-exist scratches. The car drives well, and fits good for the narrow roads in-town. Overall very pleasant experience. Will rent again!
We were looking for a local company to rent a car for a few days. Wonder Islands was perfect for us because it offered good quality service along with affordable prices. Ruben greeted us at the airport and took us to the office where we promptly signed the contract and he showed us the car. During our stay we contacted him by WhatsApp for whatever question we had. The return was also really quick and he dropped us off back at the airport. The car was new, very clean and in excellent condition. We will rent from this company if we return to São Miguel.
I was extremely satisfied with this car rental service. We had a new Opel Corsa, and the car was in fantastic condition. Both the pickup and return of the car went without a single problem. Upon pickup, a very kind lady picked us up from the airport at night, and everything was handled with a smile. The price was also really good. It's rare to encounter such a fair and humane company in this field. I'm looking forward to renting another car from them!
Our Car Rental Experience with Wonder Island in Ponta Delgada In February 2024, we booked a car from Wonder Island, a rental company in Ponta Delgada on São Miguel Island in the Azores. Their impressive reputation—over 800 reviews and a 4.9 rating—convinced us to choose them. We opted for full insurance coverage, including glass breakage, tires, and rims, with a confirmation stating: "Total insurance, no caution or excess is required, and the insurance has full coverage, so you can travel without worries." On July 21, we were transported from the airport to the rental station and greeted by a friendly employee. Our Nissan Micra (82-ZE-37) had several noticeable dents and scratches, which were noted on the rental form. The employee assured us these were just formalities, given our comprehensive insurance coverage. This reassured us as we left the station around 10:40 AM. Shortly after, I stopped in a parking lot to take photos of the car, a precaution I now believe should be done at the rental station. We then headed to a supermarket in Ponta Delgada and left around 12:30 PM, beginning our drive to Nordeste. Once on the highway, we noticed a loud noise from the left front wheel, which intensified in the rain, especially when braking. We pulled over to investigate and discovered that the inner cladding of the left front wheel arch was loose, hitting the tire and causing the noise. The damage appeared old, with a large portion of the cladding worn away from prolonged contact with the tire. Concerned about safety, we decided to return to Wonder Island the next morning. At 11:00 AM the following day, we arrived at the rental station. Two employees examined the loose cladding and mentioned it was a known issue with this type of car, caused by water pressure in the wheel arch. They asked us to wait while they addressed the problem. About 10 minutes later, a female employee, who introduced herself as the team leader, took the car to another location. After 30 minutes, she returned, showing us a repair done with zip ties. She then claimed the damage wasn’t covered by our insurance, implying we were responsible. I immediately refuted this, realizing she was attempting to blame us for pre-existing damage. When I demanded police involvement, she agreed, but quickly backed down when I mentioned I had photos of the car. She asked to see them, but I refused until the police arrived. As other customers were receiving their cars, I questioned whether I should warn them about Wonder Island's practices. Upon seeing my photos, the employee made several phone calls, including to the colleague who had initially given us the car. After speaking with him, she confirmed the damage had been present when we picked up the vehicle, and I insisted it be documented on both the original rental form and my copy, which was done reluctantly. The employee apologized, claiming she was unaware of the damage because she hadn’t inspected the car herself. Though the situation was resolved, it highlighted some significant issues. First, Wonder Island should never have rented out a car with known safety issues. Second, their staff's approach was unprofessional and a lack of leadership, with accusations made without proper investigation. If we hadn't taken photos, we might have been wrongfully charged for damage we didn't cause. This experience suggests a potential issue in the car rental industry: some companies might exploit customers by falsely accusing them of damage. If the customer can prove otherwise, the company might apologize and move on, hoping the next renter is less vigilant. Our advice to fellow travelers: thoroughly inspect your rental car and take photos or videos immediately, ideally in front of the rental staff. This could prevent disputes later. Although Wonder Island's reviews were promising, our experience was far from what we expected, showing that a high rating doesn’t always guarantee a trouble-free rental.

We booked a car with pick up option at our hotel without any huge deposit and credit card requirements and an hour before the booking starts they delivered it so we started our journey earlier than planned. The staff was 24 hours online and extremely friendly. Definitely will recommend anyone traveling to Azores!

Há chegada ao aeroporto , e conforme combinado tivemos uma carrinha e um colaborador à nossa espera , e de chegada à loja já tínhamos a nossa viatura preparada e foi só escolher a cadeira auto para o bebé dentro das várias opções que tinham. Carro praticamente novo e limpo. No dia da entrega correu tudo super bem e da mesma forma. Indulás el tt elég sok autókölcsönz céget átböngésztem ès a Wonder Island volt a legjobb ár-érték arányban. Online pár perc alatt le lehet foglalni az autót teljes biztosítással (ajánlom, így nem kell aggódni ha karcolás vagy bármi gond lenne). E-mail-ben kapott utasítások alapján könnyen megtaláltuk a transzfert a reptéren ahol már a nevemen szólítottak (ez számomra nagyon pozitív volt, hogy nem kellett magyaráznom, hogy ki vagyok, mit akarok). Transzferben már csak egy hely volt így egyedül mentem felvenni az autót. Mivel tudták, hogy az útitársam vár rám a reptéren így els ként foglalkoztak velem. Lepapíroztuk a dolgot, átnéztük együtt az autót, minden akkor felmerül kérdésemre válaszoltak és kb 20 perc múlva újra a reptéren lehettem. Egy Opel Corsa-t kaptunk, voltak rajta karcolások de amúgy újszer , belül pedig nagyon tiszta volt. Leadás pedig megint csak könnyedén és gördülékenyen ment. Mindenkinek nagyon ajánlom aki São Miguel szigetére megy, mert szuper szolgáltatást fog kapni a pénzéért cserébe.
Reservei um carro com caixa automática em Agosto para conhecer a ilha de São Miguel, mas quando cheguei ao balcão da Rent a Car Wonder Island, fui surpreendido ao descobrirem que o veículo que tinham para mim era de caixa manual. O que mais me desagradou foi o facto de me terem informado com a maior das naturalidades, como se fosse a coisa mais banal do mundo, que o carro era manual. Esta informação só me foi dada porque, por precaução, perguntei se o carro que me tinham atribuído era, de facto, automático, como tinha sido reservado. Além disso, o valor de um carro com caixa automática é significativamente mais elevado do que o de um carro manual. Quando expliquei que não conduzia carros com caixa manual, levaram-me até ao hotel e fui informado de que teria de esperar até às 16h00 para receber o carro com as características que tinha contratado. O pior de tudo foi ter perdido praticamente um dia inteiro na ilha, visto que o levantamento do carro estava originalmente marcado para as 10h00. Apesar desta falha, em momento algum me falaram de qualquer possibilidade de ressarcir o valor de um dia perdido, pelo qual paguei e do qual não usufruí. Por esta razão com base na minha experiência, não aconselho esta empresa de rent-a-car a ninguém.

Skvelý servis, príjemné ceny, férové jednanie bez depozitu a bez kreditnej karty. Tak to má vyzera ! Na letisku nás vyzdvihol príjemný zamestnanec, nalo il bato inu do luxusnej dodávky Mercedes, dbal na teplotu vo vozidle a jemnú jazdu. Po krátkom ase (cca 5 min) sme dorazili do priestorov po i ovne kde boli pripravené autá. Autá boli odovzdávané v hangári o je ve mi príjemné po as da a ktorý je na ostrove viac ako astý. Ná Fiat Tipo nebol nový (35 tis. km), ale bol vo výbornom stave. Po kodenia karosérie boli v etky pozna ené do formuláru napriek nulovej spoluú asti - premium packet. S vozidlom sme nemali iadny problém. Vrátenie vozidla prebehlo na tom istom mieste, bolo rýchle a hladké. Na vozidle nám neznámy páchate spôsobil oderok o sme pri odovzdaní oznámili, odpove ou bol úsmev a mávnutie rukou. Do 5 minút sme boli znova odvezený spä na letisko. Vytkol by som iba dve veci. Auto nebolo úplne isté zvonka ( o ale nevadí vzh adom na asté da de) a email s in trukciami na vrátenie vozidla obsahoval link so zlou adresou o bolo mätúce (na k ú och ako aj na spätnom zrkadle nájdete QR kód so správnou adresou). Oznámil som im to na kontaktné íslo cez Whatsup, na moju správu nikto neodpovedal.

Me parece muy bien que no pidan depositos,en otros rentings te piden hasta 1.200 .Pagas un poco mas y te olvidas de depositos Pague por un opel corsa bastante nuevo(eso si no era muy potente),56 /d .Seguro a todo riesgo y seguro de llantas contratado.Llegas al aeropuerto y te recogen con furgoneta te llevan a su sede cerca del aeropuerto a recoger el coche.Al devolverlo lo lleve a su sede ya que volaba al dia siguiente muy pronto.No quiso llevarme a mi hotel y me ofrecian pagar 30 .El chico que atiende no muy amable.Mi hotel estaba a 10 minutos de su sede.Pienso que te podrian llevar sin coste.Tambien pienso que al devolver el vehiculo podrian darte un papel con la conformidad de la devolución.

Perfect car for the Island (Peugeot 208 Hybrid) Everything went smooth and friendly.. The only thing which was negative, is that tire insurance is separate and expensive (I did not choose it, as rims were already scratches a bit anyway)

Buena experiencia con el alquiler del coche. En nuestro caso fue un Dacia Sandero automático y no tuvimos ningún problema durante el viaje. La gente que nos atendió maja y atenta en todo momento. Recomendable.
Picked us up right away at the airport and was very nice. We had the car for a week and the drop off info was right on the key chain. Easy drop off. We did not do the tire and rim insurance but if you tend to bump things it may make sense. Roads can be rough and narrow with stone for the curbs; there is a reason it is a separate insurance! When we come back we will use be using wonder island again.

Notre expérience avec Wonder Islands était vraiment parfaite ! La prise en charge à l aéroport et la prise du véhicule était rapide et efficace, les explications étaient très claires. La voiture était impeccable et très agréable, nous n avons rencontré aucune difficulté, génial ! Super rapport qualité prix avec l assurance full ! Pour le retour idem, tout était parfait, nous avons opté pour le service départ très tôt le matin et une personne très sympathique nous a accueilli et déposé à l aéroport. Alquilamos el coche 3 días, ya que el 4 día nos íbamos a las 8 de la mañana de las Azores, y aún así, sin que Wonder Islands estuvieran abiertos al público, tuvieron el gran detalle de abrir ese día más temprano para que nosotros pudiéramos disfrutar todos los días del coche y no tener ningún problema a la hora de devolver el mismo. Un maravilloso sitio con muy buen personal, se puede contar con ellos para cualquier inconveniente como el nuestro! Muy recomendable!

Friendly staff, smooth pick up/return. Our car (Audi A3) was in good condition and driving around the island was pure pleasure which added up to a nice experience to our vacation.

We had a good experience renting a car with Wonder Islands. The car was clean and in good condition. The only little confusion was about a pickup and drop off location. The car is not at the airport. But Hugo answered our phone call right away and picked us up at the airport and drove a few minutes to pick up the car. Many car rental companies do the same thing in Azores.

Alquilamos un Peugeot 208 automático durante 6 días. Seguro a todo riesgo sin ruedas ni llantas. Nos recogieron en el aeropuerto un chico muy amable. En la oficina nos dieron la llave y nos ofrecieron el seguro de ruedas y llantas por 15 al día. Al principio te quedas un poco parado porque no te lo esperas pero bueno nosotros decidimos no cogerlo. No hemos tenido ningún problema, sí que hay que tener cuidado en las ciudades por los bordillos pero nosotros sin problema. En la entrega del vehículo también fue muy agradable el trabajador. Cuando vuelva alquilaré el coche aquí sin dudarlo, 0 problemas.
Everything was very easy to deal with and they even helped out by opening early for us to drop off the car and got us to the airport in time for our flight. Highly recommended this company and will use again when we come back.

Communication with the company was easy. We booked the car online, they came to pick us up at the airport upon arrival and we left a short while later with the car we had chosen. The car was new, clean and ready for our trip. Overall we rate the service very positively. The lady was very nice and even recommended us what to visit or where to go for dinner. Thank you very much
It is the second time that I repeat with this company and delighted! Wonderful service and they take you from the airport to your rental in 5 minutes. By paying a little more you have insurance and no deposit is necessary. Wonder island 100% recommended to visit the Azores islands.

La experiencia ha sido buena. Sus instalaciones están a 5 minutos del aeropuerto, pero te recogen y te llevan ellos. Se adaptan a cualquier cambio horario imprevisto, aunque en horarios nocturnos hay que pagar un recargo. Nada fuera de lo normal. A tener en cuenta que en el seguro a todo riesgo no entran ruedas ni llantas. No es de extrañar, las carreteras de la isla son muy estrechas. Hay bordillos por todas partes y apenas arcén, pero con un poco de cuidado no hay problema. Nosotros no lo cogimos. Fueron muy agradables. Repetiría.

Diana was very helpful friendly. I did also get an upgrade which surprised me in a good way - I got brand new Peugeot with extra features that Dacia wouldnt have had. Pickup and dropoff were easy and fast.
Affordable rentals with good condition cars that are manageable on the roads. Automatic transmission cars avaliable. Be mindful Azores mountain roads are full of sharp turns and very narrow. Purchase extra coverage as needed. A 700 euro is applied for damage coverage. Easy transfers to and from airport. Overall good experience! Would rent from Wonder Islands rentals again!

Malheureusement nous n avons pas vécu la même expérience que les autres clients. À notre arrivée, la voiture que nous avions réservée n était pas disponible, ils nous ont donc attribué une autre voiture mais seulement pour quelques heures, après quoi il fallait changer pour une autre voiture qui n était toujours pas celle que nous avions réservée. À la fin, nous voulions avancer l heure de dépôt de la voiture pour une heure qui sort des horaires habituels et qui nécessitent donc un supplément (comme dans beaucoup d agences). Cependant, l employé m indique qu il faudra payer un supplément de 25eu alors que le site indique 20eu! Après l avoir souligné à l employé, il m a simplement répondu « 20 ». Tout ces désagréments sans geste commercial ni même une excuse. Nous avons malgré tout eu une voiture pour notre séjour mais un peu étonné de cette expérience étant donné les bons avis.

Sehr gute Autovermietung, wir haben uns spontan für ein Auto entschieden und konnten eins am Vorabend buchen. Am nächsten Morgen hatten wir es. Die Übergabe war Problemlos und es wurde alles professionell gehandhabt. Bei der Abgabe sind wir mit dem Auto zum Flughafen um es abzugeben, und weil die Autovermietung etwas entfernt ist hat uns Hugo extra noch zum Flughafen gefahren. Alles in allem eine positive Erfahrung.

Alquilamos un Opel Crossland por 10 días y quedamos muy contentos con el coche. Cuando llegamos al aeropuerto de Ponta Delgada nos recogieron en el parking y nos llevaron hasta sus instalaciones. IMPORTANTE: Haced muchas fotos del vehículo antes de cogerlo. Cuándo coges el vehículo el personal es muy amable, pero cuando lo devuelves, como cualquier compañía de alquiler, cambian.
Todo perfecto. Nos trajeron el coche al hotel y luego nos llevaron al aeropuerto. No tuvimos que esperar ni 2 minutos. El coche estaba en condiciones optimas.

Rubén (un chico joven de pelo moreno, que no recordamos bien su nombre) y Diana nos atendieron genial, muy diligentes. Además hablaban español. Lo recomendamos totalmente. Betrouwbare partner voor het huren van een auto. Wij kregen een nieuwe hybride auto mee voor een zeer redelijk bedrag. Fijn, een beetje meer vermogen in het heuvelachtige landschap van Sao Miguel. Daar bovenop bracht Hugo me ook nog naar de luchthaven nadat ik de auto inleverde. Goede service Hugo, nogmaals dank en tot de volgende keer!
DO NOT RENT FROM WONDER ISLAND! Renter beware. Not only did the car have a check engine safety warning but when we kindly notified the rental agency we were running late to drop the car they yelled at us, threatened to call the police if we were not back on their timeline, and hung up. If it was legal to arrest them for poor customer experience we would.
The car we rented worked excellent and was very clean, in our case the peugot 2008. The service that was provided worked very well for us as two young drivers. Also the contact with the employees was great, they were flexible and also honest all the way during the proces.

Etwas blauäugig haben uns ein bisschen auf die guten Rezensionen verlassen und wurden dabei nicht enttäuscht, im Gegenteil: Wir wurden am Flughafen mit einem Transporter abgeholt (100m vom Flughafenausgang) und zu unserem Mietwagen gebracht (ca. 1km entfernt). Während viele Reisende bei namenhaften Vermietungen noch in der Schlange standen, waren wir gefühlt schon auf dem Weg ins Hotel! Henrique hat sich herzlich und toll um uns gekümmert, viele Ratschläge und Tipps zur Insel gegeben und wir konnten über WhatsApp kommunizieren. 1A Service, fast zu nett und gut um wahr zu sein. Wir hatten ein zuverlässiges, sauberes Auto mit Klimaanlage und auch die Motorisierung war ausreichend (Renault Clio Kombi). Zum Abflug haben wir uns um 5.00 Uhr morgens zur Übergabe bei Wonderisland getroffen, wir wurden herzlich begrüßt und nach einem kleinen Check samt Koffer zum Flughafen gebracht. Besser und freundlicher gehts einfach nicht! Daher nach unserer Erfahrung sehr empfehlenswert! Vielen Dank für den herzlichen und guten Service!

We don t recommend Wonder Islands to anyone traveling to Sao Miguel. We had a terrible experience two weeks ago. When we arrived at the warehouse location, which is one desk in a multitude of warehouses, there was a confrontation happening between a client and a representative. The client was furious but we couldn t understand what was being said. That should have been a red flag for us but we continued with our check in process. Unfortunately, our representative spoke little English and our Portuguese was limited and so I think a lot got lost in the translation. We asked for an automatic car since that is what we feel most comfortable with especially since we were feeling responsible for a young child and grandparents. The only option was a manual car and we were trying to explain that it had been a while since any of us drove manual. They understood from what we were explaining that we didn t drive manual (lost in translation) at all and a very aggressive male representative asked us to get out of the car and said the insurance wouldn t cover us and they couldn t rent to us. We had already prepaid for the car and for full insurance coverage. A woman representative who was trying to be helpful called another company and drove us there with very little information. We thought she had found an automatic car at another one of their company locations, instead it was a new company where we got a very basic car that did not fit our whole group and we had to pay again. Not only did we have to pay again, we got charged the exact amount we had already paid Wonder Islands. We went from a brand new SUV we had selected at Wonder Islands to an old hatchback. We were not expecting to pay an additional $715 dollars in travel expenses and so we asked for a refund or at least a partial refund. They have denied the request. They stated that we cancelled and that s their policy. We don t feel like we cancelled. We were hoping for a better resolution but they have been unreasonable. Everything we read before the trip was to make sure to rent a car before you arrive because they are limited and they run out. The truth is that we saw so many companies with tons of cars and I wish we would have had a different experience in Sao Miguel when it came to renting a car. Everything else on our trip was lovely and amazing.
Cogimos un Peugeot 208 para nuestros días en Azores y estaba impecable, prácticamente nuevo. Diana súper amable, nos acercó al aeropuerto a las 6:30h de la mañana porque teníamos el vuelo de vuelta bastante temprano. Muy recomendable por la buena relación calidad-precio!
