Charged for a full tank of gas because there is no gas station nearby and no matter how much gas is in the tank. The entrance is so narrow that you could not drive in/out without assistance. The attendant is nice.
no customer support. called more then 8 times to fix a problem - the only 2 times someone picked up they eventually hung up and my problem was not solved
ABSOLUTE GARBAGE Flew from Canada with a reservation for a motorcycle with the intention to spend around 15 days on the road. As we first walked into the office, we were given the motorcycle I rented but completely dirty, with a dry and loose chain with all the rings stuck. It is like the bike was dropped off the day before and given to me right after without any inspection. Funny enough all the 100€ + BMW GS were spotless … I wonder why. After about 300km the chain was making a really loud noise, engine light came on and service light too. As expected, the motorcycle chain came off and locked the rear wheel, luckily I wasn’t on the highway anymore because otherwise, if the wheel got stuck at 130kph, I would have creased and not be here to tell the story. Hertz, a global company gave a dangerous experience, putting my life at risk with their bad vehicles. Later on my bike was towed, before the rental days were over. It’s now been two weeks, I have heard nothing from hertz, went to their office in Porto and the same people who gave me the motorcycle, refused to even try to help me. Their advice was to call customer service which they never pick up. I request my money back and a response from hertz regarding the next steps. I don’t reside in Portugal and want to sort it out before I leave but that I already told the people in the office in Porto. Awful customer service from hertz! Really quick and easy to sell the bike but when customers need help they disappear. That’s Portuguese culture… everything here they say “ é para a semana” which means will sort it next week or the week after, maybe next month. I’ve sent two emails which they told me the day I went to the store they read it, lost track of how many times I tried to call them but I get placed on hold and then the call ends… Next steps will a complain on their “livro de reclamação” and a police report with the stores manager name on it (Tiago Carvalho) as he is the one responsible for giving me an unsafe vehicle.
Awesome service. It was busy when I picked up and dropped off. Staff were all courteous and willing to help. Would not hesitate the rent from this Hertz again.

Rented a car with this agency for my vacation in Portugal and I regretted nothing. The representative who helped us, Jose, was welcoming and kind. He walked us through the entire process, showed up multiple cars, and helped us get the best price and quality. The cars were new, clean, and of amazing quality. We used our rental to drive throughout the entirety of the country, and Spain too, and felt safe knowing we booked with an agency that gave us 24/7 support if needed. Recommend this agency fully and also advise getting full coverage protection.
Lines and lines of people. This could be easily solved if they have a reservation system, or a person in charge of this. It is incredible that in year 2023, you have to suffer this kind of service. Most frustrating part is many people after an hour and a half of wait, car is not there for them, or if it is, car is dirty with other peoples food. Hertz destroys its reputation for having this franchisee approved. They need to take action inmediately.

Wir mussten ein Stunde warten und die Übergabe war dann sehr hektisch und konnten das Fahrzeug nicht prüfen, da dies bereits an einer dicht befahrenen Strasse lag. Die Fotos welche vorher vom Fahrzeug gemacht wurden, zeigten keine Kratzer. Faktisch waren es überall Kratzer - zum Glück hatten wir noch Fotos vor der Abfahrt gemacht. Als wir dies bemängeln wollten, war niemand da. Es war ein Chaos und ein unfreundliche Bedienung, welche die Optionen nicht korrekt erklärte. Auf die Rückerstattung der Tankfüllung warte ich noch heute, also über 5 Wochen!

Fuyez vite, ce sont de véritables voleur. Je vous explique, nous avons louer un véhicule que nous avons restituer dans le même état et constaté par lagent tout est ok. 3 jours plus tard la caution nous à été restituer pour nous prélevé une somme supérieur 3 jours après. En demandant des explications, le véhicule présente des dommages pour plus de 700 !!!! Chose que personnes nous a montré le jour j et quaucune preuve de leur part nous est présenté par mail. Fuyez cette agence partout au Portugal et ailleurs.
Pior aluguel de veículos que já utilizei. Falta de transparência, cobranças descabidas, péssimo serviço de atendimento ao cliente. Tornou nossa viagem em família no exterior uma dor de cabeça do início ao fim. Nunca mais passo esse desgosto para alugar um carro.

Não têm carros suficientes para os alugueres que aceitam nem oferecem solução de upgrade, nem a troco de dinheiro. Não sei se o problema é partilhado com as outras agências Hertz, está é para esquecer.
Extremely rude service. As a Hertz president circle member, told that we will get what we reserved when merely mentioning if there were any upgrades available (which is what we are told to do.) We will rent from Avis from now on with this level of service.

Retirada muito tranquila, a loja não estava cheia então fui prontamente atendido. Não tinham o carro da categoria que eu havia reservado, então me ofereceram um upgrade sem custo adicional. Instruções claras, taxas e funcionamento da locação precisamente explicados, estado do carro previamente fotografado, mas lhe deixam a vontade para inspecionar por conta própria e solicitar registros adicionais se necessário, embora relevem pequenas marcas externas. Sem surpresas, dentro do padrão de locadoras que atuam com boa fé, nunca tive problemas com a hertz. Por fim, ressalto o excelente atendimento prestado pela funcionária Inês, que é muito simpática e atenciosa, conduzindo muito bem o procedimento para o cliente!

He was very kind and explained everything in detail. I couldnt bring my credit card, so I deposited 900 euros with a check card. I reserved the smallest car, but they upgraded me to a BMW. I used it very well. I would like to use it again if I come to Portugal. Highly recommended! Every part was good
Pris en charge en centre ville, retour aéroport. Pas de navette depuis lagence de laéroport, on nous indique la navette de laéroport a prendre (qui nest jamais passée) alors que toutes les autres boîtes de location en on une , voir 2 pour certaines. Bon pas énormément grave car il faut 10mn a pieds pour rejoindre laéroport. Cest juste que vous avez beaucoup de bagages.

I rented a lot of cars but never ever herz again. He had a tattoo on his finger. His rudeness was unprecedented and out of line. He misused his position and was threatening me and my travel companion to push me out of the Herz office. It was 12PM at night. Talked about his bad day which was completely inappropriate to say the least. I dont accept this kind of rude behavior at all. I was traveling to my father who died that night and this was already enough emotion to carry. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13-03-2023 I will give full feedback if I get any further information. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 03/05/2023 received email from Herz: Dear Mr. Liu, First of all, we would like to thank you for letting us know about your experience with Hertz Portugal and we are very sorry to learn about the poor service you have received. We had a car reserved, the que was out the door on arrival, because there was just one que wether you reserved on line or not. There were 3 people serving with no sense of time- people were stressed and checking their watches. We stood there nearly 2 hours. We had paid for a car for 24 hours and insurance in Porto, for 40 odd euros. Got stung for a 200 euro deposit and double the cost as insurance offered on line is not sufficient. Charges need to be more transparent on line. Collection of a reserved car in this day and age I would expect to be automated, at least provide a fast track que.
Voiture réservée en ligne bien avant notre arrivée (séjour du 16 au 23 mai 2023). La voiture étant réservée pour 9h, nous nous présentons à l agence et là, surprise ! Nous sommes environ 10 personnes à attendre avec notre bon de réservation à la main ! 3 postes de travail au guichet mais un seul personnel ! Toutes les infos concernant le conducteur nous sont à nouveau demandées malgré notre réservation en ligne ??? Quelle perte de temps ! Un peu plus de 2 heures pour récupérer une voiture et finalement différente de celle réservée car plus de dispo ! Gamme inférieure acceptée car trop hâte de partir, et sans ristourne ! À vous de juger !

Ci siamo rivolti alla Hertz avendo già sperimentato in passato affidabilità e buon servizio. Anche questa volta non possiamo che essere soddisfatti. Abbiamo prenotato (e pagato) con largo anticipo tramite convenzioni con compagnia aerea trovando anche un ottimo prezzo in rapporto alle condizioni offerte. Il giorno del noleggio, che tra laltro era un giorno festivo in Portogallo, ci siamo recati con un po di anticipo presso lufficio trovando un po di gente davanti a noi ma tutti e 3 gli addetti al desk operativi; tuttavia lattesa è stata ragionevole e il personale gentile, disponibile e esaustivo nellillustrarci tutte le condizioni del noleggio, nessuna sorpresa. La vettura in perfette condizioni con qualche danno alla carrozzeria prontamente verificato in fase di noleggio. Altrettanto soddisfacente la procedura di restituzione allaeroporto. Da migliorare forse solo un po la pulizia allinterno dellauto.

Au moment de la réservation ils ne nous ont pas donné les bonnes infos au sujet de péages et de ce qui était compris dans le contrat, la femme a commencé le contrat hier quand on a été se renseigner et réserver la voiture au lieu de ce matin quand on a été la chercher donc ils allaient nous facturer 2 jours et du coup quand on a été rendre la voiture, au lieu que ça prenne 5 minutes, ça a pris 30 minutes et plein de discussions vu que cette femme n était plus là ce soir Elle nous avait aussi dit qu on pouvait payer en liquide et en fait non mais du coup ils l ont quand même fait. Heureusement que la voiture fonctionnait Même si elle nous l a donnée avec le coffre mal fermé donc on a déjà dû s arrêter juste après avoir démarré

For someone who reads a lot of reviews I was hesitant about renting a car. I still decided to go with Hertz due to the really cheap price. We had to wait (but it s also high season and they certainly did everything in a timely manner). It was a super smooth process and we also got a brand new car. They explained the contract in detail. Even twice when you had a question. I def recommend Hertz!

Nous avons poireauté 2h avant d avoir la voiture que nous avions réservée sur internet!
Nous devions avoir une voiture A lors de la réservation ou similaire puis on reçoit un mail 48h avant et on a finalement une voiture B. Le jour même nous avons finalement eu une voiture C (qui je trouve nest pas similaire à la première que nous devions avoir). Un peu long je trouve à faire toute ladministration, ensuite si vous ne posez pas de questions ils ne vous expliquent rien. Pour clôturer la voiture nous pensions que la clé verrouillage classique suffisait mais il a fallu regarder sur internet comment faire car la voiture ne fermait en réalité que les portes et pas le coffre... On nous a dit quon avait le GPS inclus sur la petite tablette mais pas du tout, donc le co-pilote doit tenir le téléphone, il ne fallait pas être seul. Depuis le 1er avril au Portugal toutes les voitures de location ont lobligation davoir un pass télépéage (6 le service), pas besoin de sarrêter pour payer. Nous avons eu pour un peu moins de 200 pour 3 jours. Personnel tout de même sympathique dans lensemble, heureusement.
Although I declined Super Cover it was later charged when the final invoice came. I was told at the store the amount was for the credit card hold, this has never happened to me with a rental. Feel scammed.
Agence de centre ville en sous effectif. Queue et perte de temps assurée. Venir 60min avant votre horaire prévu pour ne pas bousiller votre location et votre journée. Jattends maintenant de voir comment on va pouvoir dealer ce retard pris à cause deux, la voiture et comment se passe le retour Update : 1h30 ppur avoir la voiture. Un petit calvaire mais le staff est très aimable. Courage à eux !
Reserved a pickup for an automatic small car for 10:30am. I got there at 10:30 and they told me they wouldn t have any available cars until 2pm. I was going to drive to Peneda-Geres National Park on my trip here to Portugal, and I couldn t do it.
I cant believe I am giving a car rental 5 stars, but given the typical service and experience from previous rental offices, particularly in Europe, this one stands above the rest. Rental process was smooth and stress free. No hidden surprises or hard sell on extras. What really put them apart from all others was that they were friendly, accommodating and efficient. One last detail they did without asking which was unbelievably helpful was they switched the language and settings for the car to English. Typically you have to do this yourself and its always a struggle doing this while in an unfamiliar vehicle while trying to leave the facility in an unfamiliar place, so having them do this without asking was such a nice touch!
Fomos bem atendidos pelo João em caicais(Portugal) e devolvemos no porto na rua Santa Catarina, e também fomos bem atendidos pelo Danilo, e graças a Deus não tivemos nenhum problema. Estamos aguardando o estorno do excedente do pré pagamento.

Le personnel est accueillant , professionnel mais débordé. 3 personne à lacceuil mais qui sont multitâches car non seulement ils soccupent des documents, ils donnent les voitures tout en vérifiant leur etat : resultat il ne reste souvent quune personne à lacceuil pour la prise en charge du client Nous sommes arrivés à 10h50, il y avait 6 personnes devant nous dont 3 déjà au comptoir Nous navons eu nos documents de prise en charge quau bout de 50mn . Et ensuite 40 mn pour que lon puisse avoir la voiture. 1h30 en tout cest inadmissible . Cette agence ne respecte ni ses salariés qui sont sous pression , ni ses clients qui attendent un temps infini. Hertz à Porto nest absolument pas à la hauteur

Asseguraram um carro a gasóleo com a minha companhia de seguros e quando cheguei ao local o carro era a gasolina. Ninguém se responsabilizou no momento e tive que recolher o carro que não estava acordado.
Ik had 2 maanden vantevoren een auto gereserveerd bij Hertz, welke om 10:00 uur opgehaald kon worden. Toen ik daar om deze tijd arriveerde stond er voor de balie een lange rij wachtenden. Uiteindelijk duurde het ruim 2 uur voordat ik aan de beurt was en daarna duurde het nog eens bijna 2 uur voordat de auto kwam voorrijden! Wat een wanvertoning. Nagevraagd of dit iedere dag het geval is en dat bleek inderdaad zo te zijn. Mijn advies: huur ergens anders een auto.
The rental was straightforward and the staff were helpful despite being clearly overworked. Had to wait about 40 mins at the counter (mainly because of other customers being difficult) but otherwise great.
Waited a total of 3 HOURS for our car. The initial line for the counter wrapped around the outside and took about two hours, then we had to wait an additional hour for the car to arrive. They did not have enough cars so they were sending them over one by one from their airport location. The most inefficient system ever and the counter woman said that it is regularly like this. We rented in October - I cannot imagine what this clown-show would be like in peak tourist season.

Update: I regret I left a 4-star review, now I have to change to 1 star because I found they charged me a full day rent because of their own fault!!!! Its their fault to deliver the car 30min late and to review the car 30min late, so they charged me this 1 hour to a full day rental, this is absolutely abusive!! Freaking fraud!!! Do not go there, just run away from it! The number of staff there cant match the high demand, this is the only problem I had. I read in the comments that this store is scandal, they grab your deposit money or some guy is rude, I had none of that. I waited 30min for the car to be delivered, also 30min for the car to be checked, because too many tourists were waiting. But I wouldnt consider it as unbearable. One minor detail: when they deliver the car, its so wet with water drops, very hard to spot those tiny damages. But in the end, the full coverage insurance saved me.
Inexcusable wait time. Very disappointed they seem to have no ability to expedite. The screaming baby didn t make a difference to them, but annoying to 11 others waiting.

Not a good value, low automatic selection (apparently my only option was $130Eu/day Tesla), inconvenient or intentionally difficult reservation/drop off days/hours of operation on weekends. I was told not to reserve in advance but to come back in person for discount 1 day before i wanted rental. I was given a discount but still cost would be $50Eu per day more than the rental company I used (electric savings vs gas doesn t justify this to drive to Nazare), plus extra $40E if i wanted to drop at the airport, plus add $30 in HWY tolls if you have to drive hwy to get your car back in time or find electric charging station for tesla, closed on Sunday so you need to rent extra days or return car by Saturday at 6pm. One staff member Bernardo was very polite and professional and he s only reason for 2nd star.

Gostaria de deixar meu agradecimento à toda a equipe da Hertz de Santa Catarina, em especial ao Danilo, à Joana e ao Tiago por todo o carinho e paciência ao nos atender. Apesar do veículo inicial que havia sido reservado não estar disponível, eles prontamente solucionaram o problema e me deram um veículo de categoria maior, até que o reservado chegasse (chegou em 15h +/-). Posteriormente ao enfrentar problemas de logística com o P2 (elétrico) fui, novamente, prontamente atendido, resolvido pelo Tiago. Não tivemos absolutamente nenhum problema com questões de depósitos e franquias. Um muito obrigado à todos os envolvidos.

A éviter. Une équipe très mauvaise sans scrupules. Aucun sens du service. Aucun respect et sens du service clientèle. On a réservé un Vito depuis trois mois pour des vacances en famille. On arrive le matin et pas de véhicule. Ils m ont pas eu l élégance de nous avertir au moins. C est une catastrophe. A éviter sans hésitation, des arnaqueurs. HERTZ doit avoir honte !!

Arrivo per il ritiro e mi propongono una macchina che mi pare di categoria inferiore e chiedo se è la stessa categoria. mi dicono di si. io insisto e chiedo di vedere le loro categorie e i modelli e solo a quel punto ammettono che la categoria è inferiore. per contratto devono dare categoria uguale o inferiore a quella prenotata quindi cercavano di fregarmi. se non avessi insistito mi sarei preso lauto più piccola. alla fine mi hanno dato un auto leggermente più grande, ma che approccio scorretto!!! sconsiglio vivamente

Descaso com cliente. Pagamos reserva antecipada, chegamos na loja e simplesmente não tem carro, nem com reserva. Temos que esperar 3 horas porque além de tudo vão parar uma hora e meia pro almoço. A opção que deram foi de tentar ir na loja do lado alugar um carro lá porque não tinham carros aqui e nem fariam nada para ajudar. E ainda mandaram a gente ir tomar um cafezinho na rua. A impressão é que o problema é nosso. Descaso total!

Prix initial: 171 Prix total : + 500 et apparemment ce n est pas finis..
Había mucha gente por lo que tuvimos que esperar bastante para recoger el coche. Las reservas hay que hacerlas por la web ya que no admiten reservas presenciales.
I got there and they had no ideia about the reservation and sent me to a dealer that had no cars available therefore I was made to wait 3 hours for a car which I was informed was a very regular thing. Everything was going great until I returned the car. 2 people checked the car and hand me the paper to sign for the return which after the 2 people checked found nothing wrong and the slip read a certain price to which I signed. About a week later, me a student, get charged 200 + above the fair I signed. No justification, no receipt via email, nothing, they just up and decided what they wanted to charge into my credit card without informing me of any of it. After going to the dealer they say they have nothing to do with it, they don t have a manager and I should just go my way and if I want to complain I should call their customer service. Never have I encountered a ruder costumer service. I don t know what sort of training they have but I believe none, because I don t think any of my calls, by different people were responded correctly. Always rude, always saying that they have nothing to do with it and honestly I was directed to the sales department first every time I tried to call them. I complain via email, and 20 days later they admit the error saying they really did not inform me and my case did not go through their procedures and they re solution is thank you for informing us of our bad service. Honestly I ve always heard about car rentals being bad but I am shocked and honestly would never go to hertz again. That was the sneakiest thing I ever saw and is probably illegal . They took advantage of the fact that they saw a young student, informed me of nothing and simply charged my card with whatever they wanted to put on the car which informing me of anything so that I could see the options myself. The car may have been dirty, but it did not get dirtier after it was thoroughly checked by 2 employees and I signed the paper stating the price. Very poor service on all fronts.

I rented a car from Hertz and I am having a terrible experience. Not only have they not returned the deposit money but they have charged me the rental cost again. So instead of having been charged the 300 of the cost of the rental they have so far withdrawn 1600 without explanation. The staff that rented us the car said we would receive the refund automatically. This is what happened two weeks ago when I rented from another company in Spain. This was not the case with Hertz. To date, renting the car with Hertz for 3 days has coated me 1600 . I have been calling Hertz Portugal without receiving any answer from any operator. I am glad I at least am not calling them for road assistance because I would have received none. Thanks Hertz

One of the slowest and less friendly rentals I have been. 3 persons in front of me in the line and it took over 45minutes to give me a car that was already booked thru Expedia.
Great experience all around, vehicle was sparkling clean and new, staff at check in were friendly and courteous. Will definitely use it again.
Waardeloze service. De auto had allerlei problemen, onder meer met de accu en een van de banden die bleef leeglopen en elke twee dagen opgepompt moest worden. Maar dat moesten we allemaal maar negeren, de schuld werd gegeven aan alle sensors die de auto heeft (?!). De medewerkster van Hertz zei alleen maar dat zij er niets aan kon doen, alsof het persoonlijke feedback was. Ik kreeg niet de indruk dat ze de auto volledig gaan nalopen op alle gebreken voor de volgende huurders.

I had incredible service everywhere in Porto except here. The man at the desk was flat out rude right from the start, added an extra day without me requesting it, added the extra fuel charge without asking me, refused to reprint the contract when I told him this was incorrect. Avoid the head ache and go to any other location or rental agency.

I have had two really excellent experiences of renting through this Hertz office in Porto City Centre, directly. On both occasions, really friendly, knowledgeable staff. Had meant to write a review having received top service and a complimentary upgrade on a previous trip, but with that positive experience in mind, returned for our latest rental. Definitely have our business for future trips. 5 Stars.

Very rude guy at the desk. Our rental had a flat tire, we changed it by ourself and went to this hertz store. The guy was very rude and told us we need to the car company and get a new wheel. He did not even bother to come check the car outside. This is being a gold plus member. I called hertz helpline after this incident and they told me the agency is supposed to check it, give us an estimate of the repair and give us a new car. Do not go to this store and talk to they bearded bald guy at the desk

De auto was van in BE op voorhand geboekt én betaald. Om 10 uur mochten wij hem afhalen. We hebben 2 uur moeten wachten omdat er 10 mensen voor ons waren. Dan was het eindelijk onze beurt. Nog papieren in orde brengen...en nóg eens wachten op de auto want die was er er nog niet...pffff. Jammer van de verloren vakantie tijd.

Não indico a ninguém. Fiquei 3 horas para pegar o carro, que eu tinha RESERVADO para alugar. Lugar cheio, atendimento fraco, os carros ficam na rua e poucos na garagem. Para devolver o carro, tive que pegar fila de espera também. Não percam tempo e aluguem carro em outra empresa de locação.
Muy decepcionado con esta compañía en este país. Tenía el seguro hecho desde España y aun así he tenido que contratar el seguro con ellos o de lo contrario no me daban el coche. Lo dejo con un cuarto de depósito y me lo cobran completo, diciendome de forma grosera, llévalo y lo llenas. No creo que alquile de nuevo con ellos, ni aconsejo a nadie que lo haga.

Really good experience with Hertz in Porto! The car was in good shape, very short waiting time and friendly staff. We returned the car at the airport which took about 2 minutes. Excellent service! I highly recommend renting a car at Hertz.
Decepcionante el alquiler de coche con esta compañía. Nos hemos sentido timados y estafados con la asignación de un coche de alta gama que no queríamos coger pero no nos dejaron opción de elegir otro porque NO nos lo alquilaban de ninguna manera, convenciendonos que era el más barato que podían darnos. La lástima es que nuestra compañía aseguradora nos había hecho una reserva previamente y tuvimos que hacer la gestión con ellos.
If you re an American, avoid this location at all costs. It s not what you expect from Hertz. They browbeat the customers to accept unnecessary insurance, plus the wait is incredible. With only 4 customers in front of us it took almost 90 minutes to get our car. Go to the airport!!!!
This is the worst Hertz we ve ever been to. The service is awful, rude and inefficient. Do yourself a favor and avoid renting cars here. We ve never had a negative experience with Hertz before coming here.
