Scam alert! I feel obliged to warn patrons of a rather complex financial scam by Masterkings that I fell victim to this summer. It operates like this: Upon collection of the vehicle you provide your security deposit, in my case €450. So far so good. Note that they will demand an actual payment from your credit card, rather than a hold for the deposit. This is where red flags should have gone up. Alas, trusting Masterkings to be a reputable business, I paid it expecting a refund after the return of the vehicle. I returned the vehicle in good order and went on my way. About two weeks later, I received my refund AND ALSO AN UNAUTHORIZED CHARGE FROM THEM FOR THE SAME AMOUNT! Confused and alarmed, I reached out the Zest Car Rentals, the aggregator through which I booked the car. Weeks went by while they investigated the situation, finally claiming that Masterkings had no record of the mysterious charge and suggested I go to my credit card company to dispute it. It gets better: during the dispute, Masterkings claimed to my credit card company that the security deposit refund was actually a reversal of the mystery charge, thus closing the case. Obviously, it cannot be both a deposit refund and correction of a mistaken charge, but in the end, you are then left in a situation where your deposit has not been returned with little recourse for redressal. To be clear, this is not the more usual case of a rental company claiming you damaged the car or something similar. Rather, it seems to be a fairly well thought through exploitation of the loophole in the credit card dispute process, banking on the prospect that either you or your credit card company will give up on the claim. Please avoid this company, or at least factor into the cost the prospect that you may not receive your deposit back.
I can't recommend a car rental agency more highly! These guys are very friendly and helpful, and all of their terms and conditions policies and costs are very clearly and explicitly stated upfront! Definitely recommended. I've rented a lot internationally both from the big name rental companies and from smaller companies, and I typically find that smaller companies have better rates on the surface but then they nail you with a bunch of extras that aren't clear in the description. That is not the case at all with this company. Their information on the booking website makes it very clear exactly what is and is not included, and exactly how much any additions will cost. So there is no upsell selling, and they were very reasonable on marking previous damage, not trying to squeeze more money out of you. I booked through zest car rentals and got an incredible rate that way, so that is a recommended route to booking with these guys. Thanks again

I was absolutely put at ease by Fabil at Master Kings Lisbon who was friendly and did everything professionally, thoroughly and walked me through the car checks and paperwork. The Volvo XC40 I rented was new and impeccable. During the return, Fabil also provided a seamless experience and helped with our many bags when he drive the shuttle to airport. He was also prompt, so that I did not have to worry about getting to the airport late. Overall, I am very happy with the service, product and pricing!
We had an absolutely outstanding experience renting a 9-passenger Mercedes-Benz Vito through "Zest" in Lisbon airport, Portugal. From start to finish, the entire process was seamless. The team was exceptionally helpful, knowledgeable, and accommodating, providing top-tier service that surpassed even the well-known international rental brands, especially Sixt. The pricing was fair, and the vehicle was in excellent condition, making our two-week journey comfortable and worry-free. Excellent experience at a great price with our recent rental (booked through Zest). At pick up there seemed to be only one staff member doing everything, including the shuttle bus, which only came when I called the office. But he was with us within only a couple of minutes of calling, there were no queues, everything was clearly explained and we were on the road in no time. The car was exactly what we booked and was in good condition. Drop off was similarly speedy as pick up (there were two staff members though) without any false claims of damage etc. Great stuff and we would use again, assuming the price is right.
Without a doubt the best rental car experience I've ever had. I never thought I'd ever write a positive review about a rental car company, but this team was so professional and friendly - I would and will absolutely book a car with them again in the future
We had a great experience dealing with the people at MasterKings Car Rental. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The process was quick and easy. We rented a Mercedes Benz, which included a navigation system and the toll reader, so finding our way through Portugal was easy and convenient. The return process was also quick and easy. They even provided us with a shuttle to the airport to catch our flight home. We will definitely use them again and recommend them to everyone.
We were very happy with the service we received when we picked up the car from the A4 desk at the FARO Airport. The representative was friendly and very helpful. He took us directly to the car and showed us the features. Also, we had excellent customer service when we called the main offsite office in Faro. Sofia was the individual working in the main office who helped us solve our concerns very quickly and professionally. Her English was excellent and she went above and beyond helping us as Canadians. To date, this has been the best car rental company we have dealt with for both service and car quality. The car class and model were exactly as we booked. We were also fortunate to get a car that was almost new. In the past we have had a few challenges with the service and car quality renting in different countries with different companies. This has been, by far the best service we have received. Such a pleasant surprise!

Nul et pas du tout compréhensive le véhicule un quart dessence les pneus sous gonflé le véhicule a 40km il frener tout seul sans obstacles devant un vrais danger a vrais dire je me suis rendu à ma location qui était peniche la clés du véhicule ne fonctionne plus pile HS je les ai appelé il mon dit de venir 100 km 200 aller retour jai demandé a changé de véhicule il on pas voulue et quand jai ramené le véhicule à la fin de la location il mon dir décrire au siège cest ce que jai fait il on rien voulue savoir jai refait un deuxième courrier pour leur expliquer en plus détaillé rien à faire et un troisième courrier et plus de nouvelles. Donc nul des escro pour moi même pas un geste commercial surtout que je leur ai dit que je retourne au Portugal en mai 2025 et que jaimerai reprendre une location chez eux rien à faire donc je déconseille Master king .

I have geeked out for hours searching for a decent car rental company and i am very happy with my choice, they were very kind, answer all my questions, they take out the toll pappers and show it to you soo no surprise at home. Super quick from airport to the rental place woth their shuttle.
I looked for a long time to find a good agency and I was not disappointed. We rented a ford focus estate for a week. The car was perfect. We have been picked up at the airport with a van and the staff was very welcoming.

Just returned from Portugal where we rented a small Kia manual stick shift for ten days. Totally stress free experience , the staff were friendly and did not try to upsell additional insurance. Prices were fair, the car clean and came with a transponder, a must. Would recommend without hesitation.

Our go too car hire company when visiting Portugal. We are regular visitors to Portugal, so having a reliable car hire place when we travel is really reassuring. We discovered MasterKings via the Zest website, but tend to go directly now. One advantage of using Zest is that they add all charges, so its easier if you are unsure of the process. MasterKings are one of the only hire car companies that seem to offer a Guaranteed model so you can arrive knowing the car you should be getting. Only once have we not got the expected car, but that was peak season and they did apologise. With no car collection at the actual airport in Lisbon for any car hire companies, MasterKings are always prompt to pick us up from arrivals and take us to their offices. The collection process is generally quick and they are always really helpful if you are unfamiliar with the vehicle you are collecting. MasterKings are always top of our list when visiting Portugal, its always easy and pretty stress free which is what you want at the start of your holiday or break.

Truly the Kings of customer service! Hands down the best car rental experience Ive ever had. I had an emergency after losing my Spanish physical drivers license, only had the official digital one left and from the beginning they were comprehensive and resolutive... They were the only ones in all Lisbon that offered a solution to my problem so thanks a lot for that! Will highly recommend to any person who wants to rent a car for short or even long term! Also, Jonathan was super cool and attentive!
My rating of MasterKings is a solid 5 Star. It was a pleasure dealing with Eva and the rest of the staff. The Fiat I rented was perfect for our vacation and worked like a Swiss clock. The process of picking up the car and dropping it off was seamless. Everything was on time and on money. Thanks again! When we return to Portugal, we will definitely use MasterKings again.

Very satisfied with our experience with MasterKings. Good car for a good price, decent communication, and easily picked up and dropped off. Nice and smooth! Friendly people too. The fact that they dont accept debit cards would be the only negative. In Belgium credit cards arent used as much so we had to order some with higher limits before we could pick up the car. Seemed very unnecessary. Cost me some money to activate the card I otherwise wouldnt have been interested in. Other than that, quite pleased ;)

This is my absolute favorite car rental in Lisbon. I ve used them once last year and really appreciated their excellent service and kindness. Since then I ve used other companies who are forceful with their insurance or show an attitude. Masterkings will treat you with kindness and have an amazing collection of cars with lower deposit requirements. Amazing service and honest rental car company. I needed a rental for almost 2 months and often when traveling I have such bad service that I am jaded--BUT Masterking was one of the best places I have rented with in Europe. The people who work there are amazing-Friendly, honest, just a really great place to rent. Highly recommend renting your car in Lisbon from Masterking
maybe it was just the type of vehicle we rented (bmw 2 series convertible) but taking a 2500 euro deposit is ridiculous and it is lowkey predatory that you are asked to pay more to lower the deposit. on top of that, the deposit takes forever to clear your bank. one of the workers here was also quite rude when talking to us. would not rent from here again.

Ive rented a fiat panda for two weeks with master kings. It was brand new. I had an amazing time in Portugal. They picked me up at the airport and at the end they dropped me off as well. They were very kind and the made sure the experience was pleasant and as quick as possible. Unfortunately my car was broken into, but everything was covered by insurance and they explained to me in detail what to do to claim the costs with the broker. If Im renting a car again in Portugal, I will definitely be doing it with Master Kings.

Very bad service! We were suppose to have a car with them for 49 days and we had the mastercard to pay for the deposit (on the voucher they said this credit card was accepted) and they didn t accept our payment with this card so they just left us, without a car or without any option to get a car.

Perfect experience. Booked via Zest car rental agency, would thoroughly recommend. Landed at the airport and called (there are a few numbers provided with documents) and they came with shuttle bus within 15 minutes. We booked a Ford focus estate or similar and received a Peugeot 308. I took photos and videos of the car just in case. I had already bought zest optional top up insurance so I didn t hear any upselling of their own insurance. They explained the toll transponder device (via verde) that a deposit will be taken for, and I had already read about it before. They had pictures to give examples of the toll signs so that was helpful. The type of petrol to use is clearly marked on the outside of the fuel door. On return of the car in the morning a week later, everything was quick to sign off which was good as we were running a bit behind time. I explained I had scratched the wheel rim on a curb by accident and it was graciously brushed off as it happens . The return via shuttle bus was prompt and we made the flight in good time. Within the week after returning, the 500 euro deposit was returned on the chosen credit card, and the toll transponder deposit also returned (we didn t use any toll roads). Really glad I went with this company, after reading so many bad reviews of car rental companies in general in the Lisbon area, it s nice to be adding a positive one! Muito obrigado, can t wait to visit Portugal again!

One star is for the lovely lady who deserves 5 stars, but our experience here was awful and Im surprised by the lack of solution-thinking at this car rental. We were surprised that our debit cars did not get accepted and were willing to pay a much higher excess. But after 3h of providing us with wrong information, we decided to cancel and go with a competitor. Never again.
