Prepaid rental weeks in advance through Expedia and per the receipt included “all fees and taxes”. Car was returned on time, no damage, and full of gas. Yet, they charged me another 38 euro in fees. They refuse to refund it. Don’t expect them to honor the rate you’ve agreed to. Baited me into booking with them and then overcharged me. UPDATE customer service was contacted before I posted this review and refused to honor the agreed rate. Twice they’ve responded negatively.
Good customer service on arrival and on return of vehicle. Easy to find kiosk in the airport and then the car in the car park. The car was clean and in good condition and was an economical option for the holiday. Paperwork was promptly processed on return of the vehicle. A fault light came on during the rental. I was able to contact the office to get advice and our holiday was not affected. Overall smooth, efficient service that was worry free. Thank you.
The worst car rental company ever. We booked a car for the middle of January. They refused to accept the security deposit from my card and started imposing a non-refundable insurance fee of 360 euros. The staff at the airport refused to compromise and were rude and disrespectful. Europcar support approved the release of the car, but the staff at the airport rudely refused. Then the support number became unavailable. In the end, after contacting Booking.com support we were able to get a refund of part of the amount. I do not recommend this company to anyone.
Absolutely appalling service. Rude, disrespectful and miserable people. We booked in advance only to discover they did not accept the comprehensive insurance we had already paid 125 euro for. They demanded 300 euros more (non refundable) and another 100 euro deposit on top. Do not let them pressure you into paying. We decided to cancel and only received a partial refund. Whilst we were there resolving our issue we witnessed at least 6 other groups being spoken to extremely rudely. Only one group actually managed to jump through enough hoops to get a car. These people do not see the sun enough and should get out more. Conspiracy of bullies. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
The car rental employee was rude and attempted to pressure us into upgrading to a more expensive car. He also tried to push us into purchasing additional assistance. He made remarks like, “You can leave now and try to find a better deal at 8 PM at an airport,” despite everything already being paid for in advance. Additionally, the car we received was dirty inside.
Angelo was so helpful during the rental/pick up process. He ensured we got a big enough for our 7 bags plus stroller and car seat. He also let me park in a designated spot that shortened the walk for my wife and daughters. Angelo even provided a list of designations on the island that was excellent. Incredible service and I would not hesitate renting from Europcar again.
I am very happy with the service! I was in Madeira and had an unforgettable experience driving a small Fiat 500. The car is in very good condition, but there were signs of use (scratches and small dents). In order for you to have no problems when returning the car, take detailed photos or video before you take it. When we returned the car, we were asked if we took photos, I showed a video that showed the damage, and we got the entire deposit back without any problems. Also, we were offered a more powerful car, because the roads in Madeira are very steep, but having enough experience driving a car, even a small Fiat 500 coped with any ascents and descents. But, do not expect from it the power of a Dodge (I have a Dodge at home). This is a pleasant experience and a good attitude of the staff. Also, I want to note that I really liked the policy of the Goldcar company. Our flight from Lisbon was delayed for more than an hour, we contacted the staff and were assured that the car would be waiting for us until midnight! Whereas, the previous time we booked a car at Faro airport, and there was a similar situation, our car was given to another client, but it was a different rental company.
BEWARE! Take way more pictures and videos than necessary to prove at the end that you didn’t cause any damage to the car which is already damaged. Luckily, we had a lot of pictures and videos of the car, but they still claimed that we had scratched the back door of the car. While I was searching for videos and pictures we took when we rented it, my friend reached down and was able to erase the “scratch” with his finger. Had this not happened, I am fairly confident they would’ve dismissed our evidence and still charged us 270 euro they said was required to fix it. I will never rent from this company again as my friends had a very similar experience and are still contesting a “scratch” they are trying to charge them for. The cars in general were full of scratches and dents as can be seen in the pictures so it is very hard to prove which were there and which are new.
Muitíssimo Bem Acolhida pelo Nelson que fez por tirar todas as minhas dúvidas relativamente ao seguro e que me aconselhou uma máquina incrível para a Aventura na Madeira. O veículo em si ainda que de ótima condução e bem cuidado estava em falha com as pastilhas dos travões.

Haben hier über Check24 einen Ford gebucht. Am Anfang war nicht ganz klar wohin wir mussten da nicht direkt Europcar auf unserem Zettel stand aber im Kleingedruckten stand dann das Keddy zu Europcar gehört. Aber das ist ja nicht Schuld von Europcar. Angekommen wurden wir schnell bedient man erklärte uns noch die Vorteile eines größeren Autos für 70 Aufpreis sowie eine vor Ort Versicherung ohne Selbstbeteiligung aber unser Nein wurde anstandslos akzeptiert. Dann wurde die Kaution in Höhe von 800 von der Visa geblockt und der Weg zur Abholung erklärt. Draußen über die Straße ganz zum Ende der Fußgängerüberführung laufen dann mit dem Aufzug in die -4 fahren und zum Stand laufen. Dort wurden wir ebenfalls schnell bedient und konnten direkt in den Urlaub starten. Zur Sicherheit noch Fotos von allen Seiten gemacht und dann ging s los. Der Ford kam alle Berge problemlos hoch und war gut ausgestattet mit Assistentssystemen die einem das ganze einfacher machten auf den engen Straßen. Die Rückgabe war auch problemlos. Auto abgestellt zum Schalter gegangen mit dem Mitarbeiter nach Schäden/ Tank geschaut und dann quittiert. Bekam direkt per Mail eine Bestätigung der Aufnahme und konnte zum Flughafen gehen. Schön wenn es so klappt.

O Sr Nelio foi absolutamente fantástico quer na sua amabilidade no seu profissionalismo e sobretudo ir ao encontro e superar as expectativas do cliente. Po 3tygodniach z konta znikn o 480 bez adnej informacji o powodzie oraz wyja nienia. Tylko nasz do wiadczenie podró nicze w postaci dok adnych zdj i filmów przed wypo yczeniem oraz po ukazuj ce samochód w identycznym stanie pozwoli o odzyska po 2tygodniach kwot oczywi cie pomniejszon o kursy walut oraz stracony czas. Dodatkowo posiadali my wykupione ubezpieczenie na 100% a mimo to kwota zosta a pobrana.

Wir haben einen Ford Focus über Holidaycheck für 70,- gebucht, + 35,- für die Zusatzversicherung (Selbstbeteiligung, Reifen, Glas etc.), die bei Europcar direkt 200,- gekostet hätte. Sicher ist die Abwicklung im Schadensfall einfacher mit der Zusatzversicherung von Europcar, denn so geht man erst in Vorkasse, aber 165,- mehr war mir das nicht wert. Die Anmeldung erfolgt direkt im Flughafengebäude am Ausgang, Abholung gegenüber. Bekommen haben wir einen Peugeot 2008 SUV mit 20tkm, anstatt des Ford Focus, hat uns gefreut. Der kleine 1200 ccm 3 Zylinder Benzinmotor war vollkommen ausreichend für die Berge. Das Auto war gereinigt, die Scheiben von innen jedoch so verschmiert, dass wir erst einmal nachputzen mussten um ordentlich etwas sehen zu können. Das Auto hatte lt. Unterlagen keine Schäden, in der Tür war jedoch eine Beule von 3cm und mehrere Kratzer. Als ich auf die Schäden hinwies, wurde mir gesagt, ich solle die Schäden fotografieren, dann hätte ich einen Nachweis, dass sie bereits vorhanden waren. Ich forderte die Änderung im Übergabeprotokoll, erst nach einigem Diskutieren wurden diese Schäden im Protokoll nachgetragen. Bei der Rückgabe wurde ich sofort auf die Schäden hingewiesen und gefragt ob ich Fotos hätte, da die Schäden im Protokoll waren, hatte sich die Diskussion schnell erledigt. Nachdem uns mehrmals ein Rumpeln im Kofferraum nervte, bemerkten wir, dass in der Reserveradmulde eine Flasche Tirefit hin und her flog. Das Reserverad fehlte und die Dose Tirefit alleine hilft wenig. Es ist alles gut gegangen, aber die geschilderten Gegebenheiten lassen keine 5 Sterne Bewertung zu.
Nachdem ein Mitbewerber unser gebuchtes Auto nicht raus gegeben hatte weil wir nur über eine Debit Kreditkarte verfügen, war Angelo sehr hilfsbereit und hat uns einen neuen Renault Clio vermietet. Unsere Debit Karte war kein Problem. Den Preis von rund 500 /14 Tage fanden wir angemessen. Super cool earen die privaten Tipps von Angelo zu Restaurants und Ausflugzielen. VIELEN DANK!
Terrible Experience Avoid EuropCar at All Costs This was, without a doubt, the worst car rental experience I ve ever had. The staff at EuropCar (Angelo specifically) will blatantly lie to you about the coverage included in your rental. They claim that if you turn down their extra insurance, you will have no third-party liability coverage. This is absolutely false, as third-party liability insurance is required by European law and is explicitly stated on EuropCar s own website. The staff uses high-pressure sales tactics, pretending there s a language barrier to confuse you and make the process as frustrating as possible. They ll insist they re just trying to help or ensuring you re protected, but in reality, they ll badger you relentlessly until you agree to purchase their overpriced insurance under false pretenses. We were essentially coerced into buying their basic coverage because they kept insisting incorrectly that we would have no protection otherwise. We ve filed a formal complaint and are demanding a refund for this fraudulent upselling. The condition of their vehicles is equally appalling. The car we rented had numerous damages that weren t documented, and the staff refused to add them to the paperwork, simply telling us to take pictures. This is a clear tactic to pin damage on customers if they can t provide meticulous proof it was pre-existing. I ve rented cars for over a decade and have never encountered a company as malicious and deceitful as EuropCar. They actively try to rip off their customers at every step. We will never rent from EuropCar again, and I strongly advise others to avoid them as well.
We chose this car rental company for their good prices and solid reputation. The car was in good condition, and the pickup and dropoff processes were smooth. However, we had a frustrating experience with a staff member at pickup, where we felt misled into signing up for unnecessary extras. The staff member recommended a 78 return the tank empty policy, claiming it was the best option because: - We would be dropping the car off out of hours, and gas stations near the airport would be closed. - Refueling the day before would risk the fuel gauge dropping, leading to harsh refill charges. This seemed reasonable at the time, but we later realized: - The quoted fuel price of 1.90 per liter was inaccurate. - The car s tank capacity was misrepresented. - Gas stations near the airport were, in fact, open. Additionally, the agent attempted to upsell us on a more powerful car, suggesting the 75hp car we booked would struggle on the island s hills. We didn t fall for this, and it was the right choice the car handled steep inclines perfectly all week. Conclusion: While the company itself seems reputable, be wary of the agents upselling tactics. Stay alert and double-check claims to avoid paying for unnecessary services.

VOLEURS ! À FUIR ! Je réserve via Booking une voiture pour nos vacances. À l arrivée tout se passe relativement bien, même si ils ont faillit donner notre voiture à d autres personnes. Au moment de rendre la voiture (4h du matin) nous la garons, et prenons des photos. La voiture a été rendu INTACTE avec + d essence que quand nous l avons prise. Deux mois plus tard, je vois un débit de 500 sur mon compte bancaire ! J appelle le service client, j envoie des mails, personne n est capable de me répondre ! Quand j arrive à avoir quelqu un au téléphone, on me dit que la voiture était rayée, la jante abîmée, ce qui était totalement faux ! Je n ai jamais reçu de mail pour me prévenir d un éventuel problème, pas de facture, RIEN. Quand j exprime mon contentement, ON ME RACCROCHE AU NEZ !!! Finalité : -500 alors que la voiture n a subit aucun dommage !!!! Heureusement nous avions pris une assurance booking, qui nous a remboursé. Je vous déconseille FORTEMENT de passer par Europcar. Des amis sont passé par d autres compagnies à Madère, et tout s est bien passé.

I was just a little disappointed that I had made the reservation on a different platform and had to pay for the full-risk insurance again with the rent a car.
Nous avons rendu une voiture tot ce matin (03h30) en aillant fait le plein. Puis en sortant de lavion je vois létat de sortie indiquant 7/8 de niveau au retour! Sachant que lorsque lon a pris la voiture elle nétait pas pleine... à voir par la suite si ils ont le culot de facturer. Édit : aucun retour après dépôt dune réclamation. Carburant facturé alors que le réservoir était plein! ARNAQUE! Plus jamais je ne ferais affaire avec cette entreprise malhonnête.

Tolle Firma, alles reibungslos geklappt. Wenn man einen zweiten Fahrer benötigt, sollte man das online buchen. Online 80 und vor Ort 120 . Ansonsten top Auto und unkomplizierte Übergabe und Übernahme.
Atendimento muito simpático, pessoal muito informativo e orientado para bem aconselhar e veiculos que potenciam a experiência, mas tenham em atenção as horas averbadas para entrega da viatura que no meu caso causou stress desnecessario pois a hora marcada para entrega levou a que só usasse 2h do último dia e ficasse mais de 3 h no aeroporto a ver aviões com a família... assinei essa informação e sou co-responsavel mas não deixarei que volte a acontecer ( pago o dia quero 24h de uso ) e espero que não precisem de ligar para o balcão a um domingo ou 2a feira de manhã pois não atendem, excepto para acidentes !.
We have rented car in Madeira via Tui. Everything were smooth, fast pick up and fast return. There were no problems when returning a car, everything was on the paper. Money blocked on the credit card was returned very quickly. We would rent a car here again.

Achtung hier werden keine VISA Debit-Karten akzeptiert. Trotz einer 300 Selbstbeteiligung bei Vollversicherung werden 3.000 Sicherheitsleistung erwartet. Wer diese nicht per Kreditkarte hinterlegt wird aufgefordert ein hochpreisiges zusätzliches Versicherungspaket zu buchen (ca. 200 zusätzlich). Wenn man dies nicht macht, wird man trotz gültigen Vertrags des Ladens verwiesen und steht mit seiner Familie ratlos am Airport. Leider kein Einzelfall am Airport auf Madeira.

We had the pleasure of dealing with Nelson at euro car Funchal airport. Myself and father Sean , mother Mary of Canada had the greatest and easiest experience to date renting a car in Europe . In and out in a jiffy, had a couple laughs, super transparent and efficient process after a long flight. His sense of humor made it that much more appreciative . We had a terrible pick-up experience at the Europcar Funchal Airport location. After arriving on a thrice-delayed flight into Madeira, we were shocked to learn at pick-up from Adriana that Europcar did not accept the insurance policy we had purchased at the same time when we made the car reservation. Instead, they demanded we provide BOTH a credit card with a $12,500 credit limit AND a letter from the credit card bank, affirming that the card covered rental car damages. Otherwise, our only other option was to purchase the rental companys policy for some $275 (which included the deposit), or we were not allowed to take possession of the car. Of course, none of the documentation that we received from Orbitz/Expedia provided any of this information and we were stuck between not having our rental at all or basically being extorted out of more money by Europcar. We did not learn that Europcar did not accept the rental policy that we pre-purchased until the time of pick-up, which is crazy for such an important policy. Because we were not in the position to NOT have a car on Madeira, we were forced to buy Europcars policy in order to leave the airport. We were not the only ones in this position, as there was a woman at the counter next to us who, at the same time, first learned of this policy at pick-up, as well, despite being a frequent visitor to Madeira. I have attached screenshots of the email we received from Orbitz at the time of the reservation and rental protection policy purchase. We received no documentation from Europcar (or Orbitz) about this strange auto insurance policy related to rental car protection, so clearly the communications between the rental company and the travel booking website need to improve because the consumers are the ones suffering. I did confirm with Orbitz that Europcar *should* have honored the policy that was purchased, since that is their agreement with Europcar as a vendor. However, since Europcar did not honor the policy and we were not informed of their policy to provide BOTH a high-limit credit card AND letter from the bank at pick-up, I want to share this experience with anyone else who may be considering renting through this company. Make sure you document everything, incuding taking a video at pick-up prior to leaving the rental car lot and at drop-off. Take photos of the contracts they show you and ask for copies of everything. Expect difficulties and plan accordingly.
I wanna give 0star but option only one,because they was trying to charge me with scratches on wheels and on car which wasnt my, I had full insurance what cover everything but even with full insurance I didnt get my deposit back. Avoid!!! A lot of other renting companys to choose

A fuir. Personnel (Solange) très peu agréable et manquant cruellement d empathie. Nous nous sommes retrouvés sans voiture en pleine nuit à l aéroport de Madère à devoir payer un taxi 90 . En effet cette compagnie (et la plupart sur place) n accepte pas les carte de DÉBIT (carte de base en France), il vous faut une carte CRÉDIT pour payer la caution. Nous avions tout réservé avec Booking au préalable mais impossible donc de récupérer notre voiture sur place. Aucun solution proposée de leur part. Service pitoyable.

Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen und wurden sehr schnell bedient. Wir bekamen genau das Auto, das wir auch bestellt hatten und mussten nicht auf ein größeres und auch teureres ausweichen. Und wir mussten auch keine weiteren teuren Versicherungen abschließen. Das war bisher unsere beste Erfahrung mit einer Autovermietung. Alle und wirklich alle Mitarbeiter waren sehr freundlich, geduldig und hilfsbereit. Vielen Dank für den tollen Service

Heel fijne ontvangst op Madeira. We konden onze gehuurde auto nog niet meenemen omdat onze vlucht vervroegd was. We kregen, mits bijbetaling, een upgrade wat ons werd aangeraden voor de bergen en steile hellingen. Geen second beklaagd, was echt goed dat er wat PK in de auto zat. Omdat die mens blijkbaar zag aan ons dat we niet zo voorbereid waren, gaf hij ons nog een A4tje met tips qua bezichtigen en eetgelegenheden. Ook jij afhandeling op de luchthaven liep alles vlot.
Une bonne expérience sur place, aucun souci du début à la fin de nos vacances. Mais c est après que nous avons dû batailler pour récupérer notre caution (300 euros). Le service client me rajoutait sans cesse des délais me disant que c était normal, et en appelant l agence de funchal on nous apprends que l argent est bloqué quelque part sans savoir pourquoi. Nous sommes rentrés début octobre, et je n ai à ce jour toujours pas reçu la caution et je dois encore batailler.

Jobbigt med personal som försöker säljer på en massa onödigt skit som bara tog en massa tid från min semester dessutom avvisade dom mitt Revolut kort så tydligen måste man har ett kort med kredit för att kunna hyra en bil av dom annars så åker man på en försäkring som man kan teckna hos andra aktörer för en bråkdel av vad dom vill ha. För övrigt så var bilen väldigt trevlig att ha.

Do not rent there, I first rented there because of the 4 stars, I felt I would not be scammed. Rented tons of cars, always taking picture and video (before and after). After dropping off the car they send me an email for 294 euros of damage that could either not be seen on the photo provided or that I have pictures they were already there. Funny enough the staff at pickup, told me not to take pictures as it is raining (I still took them). Btw if you are getting a C3 white, check the rear right of the car for scratches, take good pictures as they will likely charge you for past damage (I am sure past customers got charge for the same damage over and over). Its too bad as I had a great time on the island and that pick and drop off was fine as well as the car clean.

Obligation de souscrire à une assurance car ma carte bancaire est à débit et non crédit alors que je métais assurer en amont et par plusieurs façons que cela était possible. Si je ne prenais pas cette assurance jaurais du régler des frais supplémentaire dannulation. Des techniques de vente à revoir chez Europcar.

Location véhicule Nissan Juke pendant 12 jours effectuée sans aucun problème, la prise et la restitution du véhicule à laéroport sont rapides. Ne pas hésiter à louer un véhicule suffisamment puissant pour affronter les très nombreuses pentes raides (voir très raides) sur lîle, le Nissan Juke convient très bien. Je recommande cette agence

Nous avons loué une voiture à l aéroport de Madère. Je me rends d abord au comptoir dans l aérogare où la dame, bien que très gentille, me met un coup de stress en m annonçant que pour le moindre problème, je vais devoir payer 2100 de franchise Que c est à mes risques et périls, et que je devrais payer Comment commencer de bonnes vacances avec un petit coup de stress comme ça Je me rends ensuite sur le parking. À notre arrivée, une homme et une dame, une forte odeur d alcool, je vois que l homme a un bière à la main c est cet homme qui ira chercher 5 min plus tard notre voiture la dame de l agence nous indique que notre voiture a beaucoup de dégâts, et elle nous conseille de prendre des photos. Nous l avons donc écouté, j ai demandé de faire le tour de la voiture avec elle pour ne rien rater et j ai pris en photo les dégâts. Cette dame sera, d ailleurs la plus aimable et la plus sensée que nous ayons pu rencontrer chez Europcar Nous passons nos vacances tranquillement, puis le jour du retour, nous arrivons à l aéroport à 7h du matin. L agence ouvre à 7h, j ai décidé d attendre que un agent vienne ouvrir pour pouvoir lui rendre les clés en main propre et faire le tour de la voiture ensemble. Au bout de 15 minutes après sept heures, une dame arrive Enfin. Je lui demande donc de faire le tour avec moi de la voiture et elle arrête pas de me répéter « it s ok it s ok » et de mettre les clés dans la boîte aux lettres à clef. Je m exécute, on entre dans l aéroport pour prendre notre avion. Une fois devant la porte d embarquement, je reçois un mail, et là on m annonce que j ai fait une grosse éraflure sur la voiture. Évidemment, ce n était pas vrai, et j avais la photo en preuve. Je m empresse donc de leur envoyer un mail, sans réponse Je reçois trois jours après mon retour, un mail avec le total des réparations que je vais devoir payer soit 270 . Déjà, ça m a fait un peu rire. Quand j ai vu l état de la voiture, je me dis qu ils veulent juste qu on paye les réparations, et de toute façon il ne la feront pas réparer J ai alors de nouveau fait une réclamation, et j ai obtenu gain de cause car heureusement j avais pris les photos au départ ! Mais que se serait-il passé si je n avais pas pris de photos ! J aurais dû payer 270 pour un dégât que je n ai pas causé ? J ai loué à plusieurs reprises des voitures, et ça s est toujours très bien passé. Mais c est la première fois que je prenais une voiture chez Europcar. Je vous garantis que Je ne prendrais plus jamais de voiture chez eux. Le dégât n a peut-être pas été inscrit lors de la précédente location, est-ce que la voiture n a pas été abîmé entre-temps De plus, un autre point où ils ont été malhonnêtes, quand j ai pris la voiture, ils m ont dit que le plein était fait. Et que évidemment je devais rendre la voiture avec le plein. Pas de soucis jusque-là. Sauf qu ils m annoncent que la jauge a un problème, et que actuellement le plein est fait, mais que la jauge n indique pas 100 % Ce qui est étonnant pour une voiture qui a à peine 15 000 km Hors, quand j ai effectué moi-même le plein, la jauge est bien allé jusqu à 100 % Donc en gros on m a donné une voiture avec un plein partiel, et moi, j ai payé un plein complet pour la rendre Quand j ai expliqué ça à la dame qui m a accueilli lors de mon retour, encore une fois elle m a dit « it s ok it s ok » j ai pas voulu perdre mon temps pour trois euros d essence, mais c est vraiment malhonnête En lisant les commentaires je le suis apperçu que je n étais pas le seul à avoir vécu ceci, DONC : Si, malgré tout, vous souhaitez louer une voiture chez Europcar, prenez le temps de faire le tour de la voiture ! Prenez en photo la moindre petite éraflure, couvrez vous ! Ça vous évitera de mal finir vos vacances !

This was top worst rental experiences I ve had. Our group rented two cars and upon returning them was told that we had damage that would cost nearly $500. One group easily wiped off the damage as it was dirt, and one was the smallest scratch that anyone could buff out, NOT $500 worth. In addition, the cars were so dirty when we picked them up you couldn t see if there were scratches to begin with. And since we didn t hit anything on the drive, I would assume the scratch in question was already there. Clearly their MO to try and weasel extra money out of you upon return.
AVOID RENTING HERE! THEY WILL CHARGE FOR DAMAGE YOU DO NOT CAUSE. My husband and I rented a vehicle from here for 5 days. We travel for work and rent cars often so we knew to take a video of the car before we left the lot. The process for renting was pretty typical although their customer service was sub-optimal. They could not be bothered to help with locating the car in the lot and it as well as every other car was pretty dusty/dirty. We returned the car full of gas on time with no damage. They tried to charge us 270 for a scratch. OUR FRIEND RUBBED THE SCRATCH OFF BECAUSE IT WAS DIRT. They did the same thing to our other friends that rented another vehicle. You can clearly see in their pre and post rental pictures that any and all scratches were already on the vehicle, but they are having to dispute almost 500 of damage a week later. It seems from other reviews this is common practice. IF I COULD GIVE THEM 0 stars I would.
DO NOT rent from this company. They are a scam. My group rented two cars from them. They were in usual rental car shape. Meaning a few scratches here and there. Otherwise it was a fine car. The two returned several hours apart. On both returns they charged us for scratches that we did not put on the car. After returning home we got a bill for over 400 Euros. Dont rent here. they will steal from you. If you do, you better have detailed video and pics of every inch of the car.
Can I give 0 stars? They falsely claimed we had scratched the car. Even with the pictures and videos we had taken to show the scratches were already there they are trying to scam us out of money. Go anywhere else for a rental car.

THEY WILL TRY AND CHARGE YOU HUNDREDS OF EUROS FOR DAMAGE . I rented a vehicle through Europcar Funchal Airport. The rental was fine. Upon returning the vehicle they stated there was new damage . I was shocked and said where? The lady pointed to a barely visible scratch and said here . I had video on my phone of the before and after and the scratch cannot be seen in either. The vehicle was also very dirty at the time of pickup and had multiple small scratches. I ve rented vehicles hundreds of times for work and leisure and have never had an issue before. She said I must talk to the rental counter to resolve the damage . I went to the rental counter and they had an estimate printed out for 537 . I said I refused to pay for damage I did not cause. He said the minimum they would accept was 170 and I declined again. He said that Europcar would email me, and they did, asking for 463,07 . I sent them the photos and an awaiting their reply, but this seems like a scam. The other party we were with rented and returned a few hours earlier than us and warned us that they went through the same thing, again, for a scratch that was not visible in either their check out or check in photos/videos. The damage on my vehicle was supposed to be on the passenger rear door. I attached the photos taken at return. Update Oct, 11, 2024 I went to the link posted by Europcar in their response to my review and filled out all of the forms because I still have not received a reply from my email disputing the damages and I keep receiving the message Sorry, your request couldnt be sent. I added a picture of the message.

Wollte uns noch eine zusätzliche Versicherung schmackhaft machen. War etwas hartnäckig. Dabei hatten wir schon eine Vollkasko bei der Buchung abgeschlossen. Wir werden in Zukunft wieder andere Mietautoanbieter berücksichtigen.

Nous venons de rendre une voiture en parfait état à Europcar Madeire aéroport. La personne ma fait signer sur sa tablette un état retour conforme et sans problème, 1h30 plus tard lorsque nous sommes à laéroport je reçois un mail avec un état retour indiquant : une soit disant rayure de plus de 15 cm, des pneus coupés et un pneu ARG crevé !!!! Mais quelle est cette blague !! Croyez vous vraiment que lon a pu rouler avec un pneu crevé jusquà vous rendre la voiture ? Nous navons pas quitté la route, ni roulé sur des chemins et la voiture à été garé en garage tout les soirs de notre sejour. Déjà, a lobtention du vehicule, on nous à obligés à prendre lassurance tout risque ce qui a plus que doubler le budget. Ensuite, on nous dis que le véhicule avais le plein dessence alors quil nétait quà 3/4. Ce à quoi le loueur nous a dis que cela venait de laffichage...mais étrangement lorsque nous avons fait le plein, cela cest bien affiché correctement ! Quel intérêt de louer plus chère que la concurrence dans une enseigne sérieuse pour en arriver là, cest une honte !
Buenas recomendación para cambiar a un vehículo con más potencia. Las carreteras de Madeira necesitan coches con potencia si no quieres pasarlo mal en más de una ocasión. Mereció la pena gastarse un poco más en el coche.
Très satisfait de ma location de véhicule à Europcar Funchal Airport, car tout dabord la remise se des clefs et signature du contrat ont été très rapide (- 10 minutes), il est vrai javais souscris avec la couverture complète et la franchise à 0 pour la tranquillité desprit, un peu cher mais au moins pas de mauvaise surprise à la fin. Jai récupéré sur le parking, une Renault Capture essence, parfait en motorisation pour les routes pentues de lîle, surtout si vous souhaitez aller en montagne ou sur les hauteurs de Funchal comme MONTE ! Enfin la restitution à la fin, tout aussi simple, il suffit de rendre le véhicule avec le plein dessence. Donc une bonne expérience, qui mincitera sûrement à louer chez Europcar. Je pense quil est important de dire quand cest bien et le service au Rdv, car les gens ont souvent la critique facile des quil y a le moindre problème, que de prendre le temps de faire des compliments !

I had an extremely negative experience with this car rental company and would strongly advise against using them. From the start, the staff at the counter were unhelpful and rude. They refused to assist us when we encountered an issue with our credit card, even though the card worked perfectly fine with another rental company. It turned out the problem was on their end, which wasted a whole day of our vacation. This lack of customer service and the unnecessary inconvenience they caused left me incredibly frustrated. I would recommend looking for alternative car rental options.

External mirror glass not cleaned. Front windshield dirty on the inside. We arrived at the airport on the last flight, which was on schedule, but despite this, everyone was charged a surcharge of about 65 EUR for late service from 00:00 to 01:00. Coche entregado en mal estado, con las 4 ruedas flojas casi a la mitad de la presión que tenían que tener, las delanteras a 1.4 y 1.6bar y las traseras a 1.8 y 1.9. Las ruedas delanteras eran de marca poco conocida (Petlas) y estaban gastadas en exceso por los bordes por llevar circulando mucho tiempo con poca presión, al menos las traseras eran unas Kumho nuevas. Las pastillas de freno se veían recién cambiadas, pero el mecánico no se molestó en inflar las ruedas, ni siquiera viendo el estado en el que estaba el dibujo. Además el coche, aunque se veía limpio olía a vómito. Le faltaban las alfombrillas y tenía un agujero en la moqueta del conductor que hacía que se te atrancaran los pies a veces. Los retrovisores llevaban tanto tiempo sin limpiar que debido al clima lluvioso de la zona tenían cal y no se veía bien. Si alquiláis aquí revisad bien el coche por vuestra propia seguridad. El dependiente me aconsejó elegir un coche más potente y me explicó amablemente que había muchas cuestas y que un motor tan pequeño no iría bien si iba a ir a las montañas, pero no le hice caso, pensaba que era excusa para que cogiera otro coche más caro, y si bien no eché en falta más potencia (alquilé un Ibiza con motor 1.0 de 75cv que me sorprendió lo bien que se movía para ser lo que es e ir 5 en el coche) os aconsejo que le hagáis caso si podéis, ya que el tamaño de los frenos va en consonancia con la potencia del motor. En Madeira las pendientes son muy pronunciadas y un motor pequeño como este, aunque sube bien, no retiene nada cuesta abajo y los frenos al ser pequeños, se fatigan con mucha facilidad, de hecho llegué a tener fading en una ocasión, por lo que hay que ir con cuidado y en algunas cuestas prolongadas ir parando de vez en cuando para dejarlos enfriar.

Auto Seat Ibiza war ok. Die schnippische Art der jungen Dame nicht. Nachdem ich ein Upgrade abgelehnt hatte, meinte sie ich würde ja schon sehen und machte völlig unnötig Angst.
Mit der Debitkarte zu bezahlen war nicht möglich das vorab. Merkwürdig, denn in Deutschland und Österreich ist dies problemlos möglich, obwohl das gleiche System verwendet wird. Für mich riecht das nach Abzocke um dem Kunden zu verunsichern. Uns wurde außerdem eine zusätzliche Prämienversicherung angeboten, die wir schließlich auch genommen haben, weil der Selbstbehalt von 850 auf 2.100 erhöht wurde. Das war uns eindeutig zu viel, auch eine gute Strategie um Leute auszunehmen. Das Auto selbst war nicht in einem besonders guten Zustand. Die Dellen und Kratzer würde ich dem Vermieter nicht anlasten, aber die Reifen waren abgefahren und auch die Bremsscheiben grenzwertig. Auf dieser Insel sind beides essenzielle Dinge, die in gutem Zustand sein müssen. Doch das war noch nicht alles: Nachdem wir das Auto vollgetankt und ohne neue Schäden zurückgegeben hatten, erhielten wir eine Rechnung, in der uns für drei zusätzliche Tage die Prämienversicherung berechnet wurde. Jetzt stehe ich erneut in Diskussionen mit dem Vermieter um mein Geld was ich für die Kaution hingelegt habe zurück zu bekommen. Ich werde nie wieder ein Mietfahrzeug bei Europcar buchen außer vielleicht in Deutschland. Es ist jetzt das dritte Mal, dass ich Probleme mit ihnen habe, und das reicht. Der Zustand der Autos, die fragwürdigen Versicherungstricks, die Rechnung so ausgestellt das sie fast nichts zurückzahlen müssen und das Problem mit der Debitkarte sind für einen großen Player in der Autovermietung eine Schande und nur Beschämend.

Très bon accueil du conseiller Angelo qui nous a non seulement recommandé une très bonne voiture pour notre séjour, mais en plus de ça il nous a donné une liste de lieux à visiter et endroits à manger plus incroyable les un que les autres ! On the 19th of September, we booked a car with automatic transmission for our arrival at Madeira airport on the 27th. When we arrived at 8 PM, we were told that our reservation wasn t confirmed, even though we never received any email or notice about this issue. To make matters worse, the customer service at the desk showed complete indifference, with one of your employees even saying, I don t care, you can do whatever you want. We were left stranded at the airport with no alternatives, as all other automatic cars were already rented out

Nachdem ich morgens über CHECK24 gebucht habe, und grundsätzlich Europcar auch gut bewertet ist, ist der Service hier auf Madeira einfach katastrophal. Angeblich nehmen Sie keine anderen Karten außer einer Visa Kreditkarte, außer man schließt vor Ort eine Vollkasko lokale Versicherung ab, die dann noch einmal 100 % Aufpreis bedeutet. Das ist einfach Betrug. Extrem schlecht.
My friends and I just got back from a week long vacation in Madeira. It was wonderful, but a car was definitely necessary to be able to see the many amazing sights of the island. After reading through reviews, we went with Europcar - and very happy we did! Their office is located inside the airport (youll pass it as you exit the baggage claim area). The line to pick up the car was a bit long (about 45 minutes?), but all of the staff seemed to be working as quick as they could to keep the line moving. They did not try to upcharge us or sell us things we didnt want (we already arranged for rental insurance coverage prior to arrival) and they were extremely friendly. Picking up the car from the lot was easy, and drop off was just as easy as well. If we plan another vacation here, I would happily rent from them again. Thank you!
Un problème de voiture au bout de 2 jours, résolu rapidement néanmoins
Le séjour se passait bien avec la voiture fournie, jusqu à la restitution, où des rayures ont été notifiées, soit disant causées par nos soins (lol) Et par la suite, j ai évidemment reçu un mail qui m annonce que l ont me prélèvera la somme totale des « réparations » Je déconseille, car la malhonnêteté est a son max! Sachant que nous avions les preuves en photos et vidéos, lors de la réception du véhicule, que toutes les rayures étaient déjà présentes. Je ne recommande pas ! ( et ps c est très cher)
Vriendelijk ontvangst, goede adviezen en hele fijne auto, Peugeot 3008, aan te raden voor als je de bergen in gaat om levada s te wandelen. Hogere auto en meer pk. Dat laatste is belangrijk voor de soms hele steile straten en hellingen als je met het hele gezin (4 volwassenen) in de auto zit.

Die Mitarbeiter sind super arrogant und absolut nicht hilfsbereit! Meine Zahlungsmethode wurde nicht akzeptiert, obwohl es bei allen anderen Autovermietungen an dem Flughafen akzeptiert wurde und ich schlussendlich bei der Konkurrenz ein Auto mieten musste.
Online gebucht und Bezahlt. Bei Abholung wurde plötzlich eine Kreditkarte verlangt oder 200 mehr für Vollkasko. Haben storniert und sind zu Sixt.Kleines bisschen teurer dafür Problemlos.

Beaucoup + de peur que de mal ;) Gros stress au départ car lassurance complète que nous avons souscrite auprès de Booking en même temps que la location de la voiture nest pas reconnue et les franchises sur le contrat de base sont supérieures à celles annoncées... Après appel à Booking nous ne reprenons pas dautres assurances et croisons les doigts. Nous recevons une voiture toute neuve :) et conforme à notre résa, on nous prévient que la puissance dans les montagnes de Madère peut savérer faible...cest vrai (en être conscients si vous êtes chargés) mais on este avec notre 1er choix. On fait hyper attention et puis on la nettoie aspi intérieur et lavage extérieur avant de la rendre. On la dépose en pleine nuit à 5h du mat selon les instructions données et ...à 7h58 on reçoit un accusé réception dEuropcar qui nous confirme la réception de la voiture...conforme à la prise en charge. Tout est OK :) Donc rapport qualité prix OK, accueil à laéroport de Funchal, (même si strict et angoissant sur lassurance et les franchise) courtois (la personne a même accepté déchanger en Anglais avec Booking), et pour nous tout sest bien avec un état des lieux de retour conforme, confirmé ultra rapidement. Bonne expérience au final
Después de haber alquilado un coche por varios días en aeropuerto de Madeira..me ofrecieron uno superior al reservado. Todo perfecto. Pagué la diferencia y a rodar. Al entregarlo lo hice con el deposito Ileno como me había dicho y la chica que me lo recepcionó me dijo....todo perfecto. Pues me ponen un cargo de 11 euros por no haberlo dejado Ileno cosa que no es cierta. Me parece una faena de lo más sucia además de que el litro de gasolina estaba sobre 1,62 y lo cobran a 1,90. Desde luego nunca más con esta compañía, Y espero que esos 11 euros se los metan por donde la espalda pierde su nombre .

Bei der Abholung alles super nicht aufdringlich und sehr freundlich. Nach Rückgabe, obwohl nachgefragt wurde ob alles okay sei, dann im online Formular gesehen, dass der Tank angeblich nur zu 7/8 voll sei, dafür wurden 9,80 von der Kaution abgezogen. Auto wurde ca. 15min vor Abgabe vollgetankt (manuelle Tankanzeige).

Not only did the car sound (squeaky brakes) and feel (abnormal shakes/sounds anytime we backed up or turned) unsafe, the man who checked us in at the Funchal Airport scammed us into an upsell purchase. After telling us we paid more than we should have online , he outlined three options to make up for the cost all of which actually ended up costing us additional money? Beware of this tactic. After doing more research, we found many other options that did not require a deposit (ours was $375) and included insurance (ours was an additional $10 per day) choose any other option you have.

We hadden wat problemen met huren van een wagen. We boekten online maar eenmaal aangekomen bleek de reservatie niet bevestigd en konden we niet anders om veel tegen veel duurdere voorwaarden opnieuw bij hun huren. Wel vriendelijk mensen, maar geen flexibiliteit. Achteraf werd ons nog 46 van de rekening gehouden omdat de tank niet helemaal vol was. We hadden thans vlak voor het slapengaan getankt. 50 km van de luchthaven...

Ok... got a car with some damages, the guy Nelio tried to convince to take a higher class and that my booking via check24 agency is not good and I always pay the better insurance. So I already booked a higher class and should have booked an even higher... got a car with serveral damages. We made pictures to document this and as we returned with even more pictures. 1 week later we got a Mail with pictures of damages you couldnt recognize from this station. The car was returned without inspection because the station was closed. Now they come up with blurry pics and damages where no are. I dont recommend this rental service

When we first got to Europcar everything seemed like it was going well. The pickup desk is located right in the terminal and a short walk to where you pick up your actual car. We checked in and filled out the forms (unbeknownst to us) that we were signing saying the car did not have any damages-- however we were not given the option to even see the car prior to signing these forms. As we always do we took pictures of the vehicle prior to exiting the airport. The pictures show clear damage to the front license place and lower bumper (upon pickup). We returned the car prior to the station being open and again took pictures showing no change in damage. A few weeks later we got a letter stating that they were going to charge us for damage that had already been there. We had the pictures to prove it. They said because we filled out this form upon pickup that that meant we agreed to no damage. The damage that they were charging us for was in total $400 and was for a bent license plate and a small scratch to the bottom of the bumper-- again which was already there from a previous customer. This is a terrible way to do business and a terrible company. I would not recommend doing business with them, and we will not be doing business with any Europcar for this reason ever again. If I could give 0 stars I would. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Je pensais faire bien les choses en prenant l assurance maximale et en rendant la voiture en excellent état et avec le plein. Pourtant, cette agence sest permis de débiter mon compte de plus de 100 pour des frais imaginaires. Jaurais dû écouter les avis négatifs et ne pas réserver ici, ca maurait évité de me faire voler honteusement comme ça. Plus jamais. Edit : lagence me dit de prendre la voiture 30 minutes plus tôt sans frais et me facturera finalement une journée entière une fois rentré à la maison. Elle majoutera également 40 de frais d aéroport alors que j ai bien stipulé lendroit où je prenais la voiture au moment de reserver et payer. Quel est leur argument? Que jaurais dû lire leur contrat écrit en portugais quand ils mont demandé de le signer en 2 minutes? Quelle blague...
Ho prenotato tramite una convenzione aziendale una 500 con protezione completa. Al mio arrivo la dipendente, tra laltro anche molto sgarbata mi volevo propinare a tutti i costi una Megane con un conseguente aumento della tariffa perché sosteneva che la 500 non fosse adatta alle strade (quindi mi chiedo perché ce labbiano nel parco auto). Dopo aver insistito e convinto che la 500 andasse bene, non hanno voluto accettare il mio bancomat perché non aveva scritto nome e cognome, nonostante servisse il pin personale per effettuare pagamento. Avevo altra carta, ma era su circuito maestro e a loro non andava bene. Infine, una carta di credito che chiedeva PIN che non avevo, perché non serve solitamente. Infine, la risposta è stata di arrangiarmi che lauto non me lavrebbero data, e sono andato al noleggio a fianco e stranamente questi problemi non ne ho avuti. Per conto mio Europcar non la valuterò più come noleggio auto.
Location BMW série 1 via booking. Loueur au top, facile daccès, aimable. Voiture conforme avec quelques accrocs mais rien à dire, restitution top, rapide Petit bémol, pneu au témoin dusure ou presque, dixit employé, normal au Portugal.... Et la sécurité ? Personnel à laérogare très aimable et pro (Solange), merci!

Rather than renting throug Europcar, you are better off walking to your destination or jumping off a cliff. The team is less than helpful and the vehicle provided to me and my brother was NOT safe. The brakes squeaked, the GPS did NOT work, and the speed limits were not accurately reflected in the dashboard... it was a literal death trap. This whole experience doesnt even include the terrible customer service where they refused to help me update my reservation and then had the audacity to tell me there might not be a car for me to borrow upon my arrival. We asked if they could pick up the car and they didnt answer... we ended up dropping off the car early and they refuse to give us credit back.

Sem problemas. Funcionou tudo bem. Se puder aluguar um carro mais forte, não perde nada. Alugamos um Fiat 500, conseguimos, mas quase não chegava aos pontos mais altos . Era preciso mais potência.... O senhor ao balcão avisou, mas achei que era maneira de vender outro segmento, mas se puderem fazer o upgrade, é preferível.
Agence descrocs qui ne fournit pas le véhicule réservé par un site tier et vous demande de souscrire une assurance hors de prix à 20 par jour. Une pression malsaine et le marketing de la peur afin de souscrire à cette assurance comme si Madère était Rio De Janeiro... Changez de métier et vendez des assurances, ne louez plus de voitures ! Merci Europcar de mavoir fait perdre 2h au terminal, je suis allé chez un concurrent.

Cheguei ao Funchal e aluguei um carro na aplicação do Booking. Graças ao profissionalismo e simpatia do funcionário Nelson Gouveia que nos fez um upgrade e nos aconselhou o seguro contra todos os riscos, a nossa estadia na Madeira está a correr sobre rodas! Ainda hoje nos cruzamos com ele no Cabo Girão e o senhor reconheceu-nos e foi prontamente nos cumprimentar e perguntar se estava tudo bem e se precisávamos de alguma coisa! Um funcionário desta qualidade faz um negócio prosperar! Um grande bem haja!!!!!

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. I rented a car from this location with late pick up and early drop off (which I was charged more for). The car was in such terrible condition- scratches, dents, and damage all over the vehicle. It was an electric car, and the battery would never charge to full. Some nights, when left on the charger all night, it would actually drain a few percentage points. The car was unreliable and this caused anxiety during the trip as to whether we would have enough battery to make it to places. On top of the poor condition of the car itself and the battery, this location billed me for damages I did not make to the car. There was no walk around or agreement to prior damages- I would not have taken the car had I seen the condition, however, it was 1am when I picked it up and they just gave me the keys at the desk. I strongly recommend spending a few more dollars at Hertz or Sixt - you will receive a car in much better condition, and you will not be asked for more money for damages you did not cause.

No doy menos puntuación porque no se puede. Me entregaron un vehiculo rayado por todos lados y después de un mes y recibir un cargo sin justificación alguna, nos comentan que se han equivocado al enviar el correo y por eso no ha llegado nada (con lo cual estamos fuera de plazo y no podemos hacer nada). Demostramos con imágenes que el vehiculo ya tenía las marcas que indican que hemos realizado y deciden que el cargo es correcto. Vaya forma de aprovecharse de los turistas.
unkomplizierte Abwicklung, Pakete und Zusatzversicherungen wurde sehr gut und kompetent erklärt. Einziger Punkt ist, dass wir bei der Entgegennahme des Fahrzeuges keinerlei Dokumentation der Schäden die schon da waren bekommen haben und hier auch kein Mitarbeiter Zeit investieren wollte, da wir ja eh Vollkasko ohne Selbstbeteiligung haben. Die Schäden wurden dann nach der Fahrzeugabgabe wohl geschickt und aufgeführt, diese waren aber allesamt (auch per Foto und Video dokumentiert) schon vorher vorhanden. Es wurde aber aus oben stehendem Grund nichts verrechnet.
