I had very good experience with Five Rent a Car. Car was good, clean and everything working. Easy pick-up and return, proper communication, quite flexible. No weird insurance scams, no weird charges. 200 EUR deposit refunded. I recommend!
The car was extremely moldy and the brakes did not work very well which is pretty dangerous in a place like Maidera. I reached out to Five rent a car. They said they'd "look into it and get back to me". They never got back to me.
Disappointing and Dangerous Car Rental Experience in Madeira I rented a car for a week in Madeira, and unfortunately, the experience was both disappointing and potentially dangerous. At the time of pickup, everything seemed fine, but on the first day, a warning light on the dashboard came on. I reported the issue to the rental company, but they told me not to worry about it. Soon after, I noticed a problem with the brakes, which quickly became very serious. Driving with faulty brakes on Madeira, an island full of steep hills and sharp descents, is extremely dangerous and put us at great risk. After reporting the issue via email, I was told, after more than 24h, that I could swap the car. When I went to exchange the car, I noticed a difference in the fuel level between the car I was returning and the new one. I was told I could return the new car on empty, which is impractical and risky since there are not many gas stations outside Funchal. I asked for a small discount of €50 to compensate for the fuel and inconvenience, but I was told I needed to speak with the manager. When I asked the employee to call the manager, I was told it would be better if I called myself because the manager wouldn’t answer him. I tried to contact the main office, but a staff member answered, refused to identify himself, and didn’t want to listen to my complaints, saying they had already done everything necessary and that I had to deal with it myself. To make matters worse, the replacement car was lower in terms of options and features, a clear downgrade. In summary, the service was poor, with unhelpful staff and completely inadequate problem management. The brake issue was extremely serious and put our safety at risk. I would not recommend this car rental company to anyone.
Great experience, communication and transparency. There were no extra fees after the booking was made. We got picked up at the airport. The staff was checking our flight details, so they knew when to pick us up and called us to arrange it. At their office we received a mint-condition and properly cleaned car. Afterwards we returned the car at the Funchal office, got 100€ deposit back to the credit card in a matter of a few hours. You made a happy customer.
All you need from a car rental. We got a nice car, they picked us up from the airport on time, returning the car was easy, and we got the €100 deposit back in one day. When visiting Madeira again, I'll rent from the same place.
Super nice and convenient car rent without any worries but with with great prices and service. We've got picked up from the airport for a five minute drive to the office for papers sign and keys pickup, paid the exact amount we were informed while booking + 100 EUR deposid according to our car group type. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well! The car itself was totally great - very clean, everything worked smoothly and was just a perfect asset while discovering the island. While returning the car we've got our deposit back to our card and got driven to the airport. Thank you so much!
Very good company with perfect personnel. Guy met me near the airport, took to the company, 5min drive. Sign papers, gave keys and you can go. Price for 5 days was only 175€ + 100€ of deposit + 20€ to insure windows. Car was clean and almost new, had 14000 km on odometer. After the rental period, I arrived back to them, they checked car, gave back 100€ of deposit and took me to the airport. Will recommend them, as they have lower prices than other rental companies and new cars.
Great company that doesn't try to sell you additional, expensive insurance or tries to charge you for already existing damage. Prices are very fair and they pick you up from the airport. We got a Fiat 500 cabriolet with very low mileage and great condition. Going up some of the steep hills was a challenge and reached the limits of the small engine but with enough patience and momentum we managed to get everywhere. Will definitely book again here when we come back one day!
I had a great experience renting a car here! Everything was super easy and fast, the car was clean and brand new, and the staff was very helpful. I also really appreciated that they allowed me to leave the deposit in cash. Highly recommend!

Sunt foarte dr gu i! Dup o experienta nepl cut cu vecinii lor OK mobilty pe care nu-i recomand deloc, cei de la Five Rent a Car ne-a ajutat foarte mult. Ei nu mai aveau în acel moment ma ini, dar au sunat la alta firma i tot ne-au ajutat. Pana a venit ma ina ( în 15 minute) ne-au dat i câteva informa ii despre Madeira. Recomand!
Fiz o aluguer através da Agência de viagens e tudo correu bem. Não aconselho é alugarem um panda, pois é um carro fraco para se andar na Madeira. Aquelas subidas mais dificeis, e há muitas, têm que ser feitas em primeira. Ainda por cima o que me calhou era velho.

The staff is very welcoming, the rental is very well explained and it was pretty quick! The advantage is that they take you to the airport on the way back! You just have to remember to pay the deposit with your physical bank card (security deposit) otherwise the refund was not possible on the card (of course I was reimbursed in the following days by a bank transfer!). Apple Pay is not (yet) working for everything haha. I highly recommend this rental agency for your trip to Madeira !
MAKE A VIDEO OF YOUR CAR if you decide to rent from them because they will take your deposit on something that you didn t damage. We rented a car here and the deposit was 100 euros, while returning the car the pointed out a minor scuff on one of the rims which we didn t do. There was a few minor scratches on the car when we got it but it was so minor we didn t even think it was worth pointing out. When we returned the worker went straight to this tire to blame us for the scuff and said we would lose our deposit. I agree with what another reviewer said. They must leave the damages on the car so they can blame you for it upon return and keep your deposit. Take a VERY thorough video if you rent from them since it was such a small scratch that it might not have shown up even if we had taken a video prior to driving it away. They also want to charge you extra for insurance specifically for your tires and windows and they don t tell you before you get there. Felt like we were scammed

This is the kind of car rental company you need! Very kind staff, good prices and great service. When you choose to pickup from the airport a guy is waiting for you just outside the terminal. Then someone brings you to their office in Santa Cruz (5 min drive). There you fill out the paper work en get your car. You pay a deposit of 100 (this is not mentioned before hand), which you can pay cash, by creditcard or debet card. If you dont damage the car you get it back when you return the car. Then they also bring you back to the airport. Ofcourse there are more car rentals that have good prices but the question is what happens when you have a problem with the car. Due to an accident we got some damage and a flat tyre. I immediately called the guys and the next morning they brought a new car to our vacation house. Despite the damage they remained very friendly and understanding. It only cost us our 100 deposit, because we took the tyre and windows insurance as well. No fuss or lots of paper work, this is just how they work. Great service!

Gostei de alugar com a Five. Estavam à nossa espera no aeroporto. E quando entregámos o carro correu tudo bem.
Nous sommes arrivés à Madère sans avoir fait de réservation de voiture. Après avoir fait plusieurs agences, soit il ny avait plus de véhicules, soit on nous proposait des prix exorbitants... Nous sommes allés chez Five rent a car Santa Cruz, proche de l aéroport sans convictions et là, SURPRISE!!! Une clio diesel à un prix très correct, et en 10 minutes tout était réglé. Merci Five rent a car, vous avez grandement contribué à la réussite de notre séjour.

Empresa super prestável. O nosso voo chegou mais cedo e em 5 minutos foram nos buscar ao aeroporto. O parque onde nos mandaram deixar o carro no último dia estava cheio, deixamos mesmo dentro do aeroporto. Super prestável e de rápida resposta. A caução foi devolvida para a conta no mesmo dia que devolvemos o carro

A larrivée, on les appelle au téléphone (en anglais) pour quils viennent nous chercher. Pas de problème (temps dattente environ 15 minutes). Location 1 semaine dune Fiat Panda. Pas de problème. Ils encaissent la caution de 100 au début pour la rembourser au retour. Lors du départ, on nous ramène à laéroport avec la voiture mais le conducteur était muet et conduisait dangereusement. Cétait le seul bémol. Dommage.

Excelente relação preço/qualidade, atendimento profissional. Entregaram carro no hotel e deram boleia para aeroporto na entrega do carro. Não precisa cartões crédito e todo o processo é muito simplificado.
O atendimento deixou muito a desejar na nossa chegada. O funcionário parecia desagradado com a nossa presença, era prepotente e muito pouco simpático. No regresso, fomos um bocadinho melhor recebidas.
Had via booking een auto gehuurd. De dag voor vertrek nog even gekeken en kwam bij Madeira Rent terecht. Dezelfde klasse auto ruim 35% goedkoper met betere (geen eigen risico) verzekering. Het ophalen was simpel, geen verborgen kosten en duidelijke uitleg. De auto was hagelnieuw en van goede kwaliteit. Ik leverde de auto om half 8 s ochtends in dmv het achterlaten van de sleutel in een brievenbus omdat pas om 8 uur iemand aanwezig was. Maar al om 08:11 had ik bevestiging in mijn mail binnen en was de reservering op mijn creditcard al vrijgegeven. Kortom, gewoon hier huren als je naar Madeira gaat!

Super easy booking on the website, friendliness and punctuality 10/10. I had the opportunity to explore the island in a Fiat Panda and it was possible to explore it to the fullest. If you are with a large group, a more powerful car would be a better option.
Abbiamo prenotato dal sito senza dover pagare nulla online. Ci sono venuti a prendere con un van in aeroporto e ci hanno portato nella loro sede, dove abbiamo firmato i contratti e preso la macchina. Prezzi non super economici MA SI PUO PAGARE CON CARTA DI DEBITO (come postepay), e come deposito cauzionale ti chiedono solo 100 , che mi hanno ridato sulla carta dopo 3 giorni dalla riconsegna. Il secondo giorno ci è finito un sasso nel cerchione che emanava rumore, non ci sono stati problemi, dato che avevamo l assicurazione su pneumatici e finestrini, ci hanno sostituito l auto con un altra. Alla riconsegna ci hanno riaccompagnato all aeroporto. Per chi noleggerà, la panda non è il massimo per madeira visto che è piena di salite. 7 giorni abbiamo pagato 210 +35 di assicurazione. Super consigliato

We ended up waiting for an hour, no one showed up to pick us up respite giving flight info and text and calling.. ended up taking a cab to the place and no one was there to give us the car. Absolute waste

Gekozen voor deze auto verhuur vanwege eerdere goede reviews. Kunnen melden dat het helemaal terecht is. Hebben hier een fiat panda meegekregen voor een week met 2 goede kwaliteit kinderstoeltjes erbij. Stonden keurig bij de aankomsthal te wachten en de auto stond klaar. Vriendelijke goed Engels sprekend personeel die alles goed uitlegde. Geen duistere onderliggende kosten. Eerlijke prijs zoals van tevoren afgesproken. Inleveren van de auto ging heel makkelijk bij de vertrek hal en binnen een kwartier liepen we naar de gate. Kan het adviseren aan iedereen die een auto wil huren.
Insist on a joint (company and customer) vehicle inspection BEFORE AND AFTER renting your vehicle. We had rented an SUV for a week and upon picking it up we were told it was brand new. A quick inspection showed us it was not. There were a handful of nicks and scratches on the car, and a large scrape across the front right bumper. (see photo) I immediately flagged this to the employee and she said not to worry and to take photos and/or video of the inside and outside of the vehicle, which we did. Boy were we glad we did! Upon return, we parked and dropped off the vehicle to the SAME EMPLOYEE that we picked it up from a week earlier. We asked if we needed to review the vehicle with her and she said no need, we are very easy here!, which didnt sit right, but we had a plane to catch. While waiting in line to check in, we checked the rental fees to find an additional cost of $700 EUR for damages, with no detail of where these damages were identified! Well, good thing we caught this before crossing the security line or we would be fighting these costs from another time zone. We had a bit of time before boarding, so we returned to the rental office to contest the charges. When we arrived a different woman who normally doesnt work from this office. When asking what damages had been found, they stated the front right bumper, yes, that front right bumper damage that we called out upon pickup and took detailed photos of, was what we were charged for. The first woman, and the only person we had worked with here up to this moment, saw that we had returned and was speaking to the new employee. She learned why we were there but didnt even acknowledge us, much less apologize for the error. When asking the new woman if they typically record the damages before and review for damages upon return, she stated that they regularly do. The only reason I give this review 2 stars is because the car was nice, worked well and the situation was resolved with this other womans help. The fact that standard practice was not followed and we did not receive an apology from the first employee, makes me think that we were intentionally targeted. Had we not caught these charges, we would be fighting against paying for the vehicles damages that were made under someone elses rental (or perhaps an employee madr to this new car).

Great communication from the companys side, everything was prompt, fast and without any issues. We really enjoyed the island in our little Fiat 500. However - bit of an advice - if your wallet allows it go for a car with higher power as the island has quite a lot of steep roads.

Sin duda la mejor empresa de alquiler de coches en Madeira. Estuve mirando bastante y estos eran los mejores en precio. Los coches muy nuevos y seguros a todo riesgo. Lo llevan unos chicos jóvenes muy educados y amables. Aunque no están en el mismo aeropuerto están muy cerca y te recogen y te regresan. 75 de depósito por la franquicia que luego te devuelven. No se paga por adelantado. El deposito de gasolina se devuelve como se recoge. Todo genial. Volvería a reservar con ellos? Por supuesto sin dudarlo. Si tienes alguna duda, pregúntame.
