I was charged 310 euro for damage that was already on the car. When I requested info regarding the damage I was told it was on the fender and they supplied a picture. I then supplied my own pictures and videos from when I collected the car to show that the damage was there. They then responded saying that the damage was on the front bumper with no pictures or videos from collection and drop off to support this. I also have pictures and videos of how the bumper and rest of the car was damaged! I definitely would not use Hertz as they charge multiple clients for the same damage and don’t fix the cars until they sell them
DO NOT rent a car from Hertz Madeira Funchal. This was the most appalling experience of customer service and blatant fraud I have ever encountered. After paying and signing the final bill, they charged my card days later for additional fees, including extras and supposed airport charges. Clearly, they did not anticipate us staying in Madeira longer, as we returned to the desk to confront them. The staff was utterly unhelpful, and the manager, Hugo Pereira, refused to speak with us, claiming he was "unavailable." The desk agent, who identified himself as Marco Aurelio, refused to show ID, casting doubt on whether that was even his real name—he also provided the name Camacho Pinto under duress. To make matters worse, they attempted to justify the charges by presenting a fabricated invoice with different amounts and no signature that did not match the one we had received via email. Hertz should be deeply ashamed to have such incompetent and deceitful individuals representing their brand. Avoid this location at all costs if you value your time and money.
DO NOT rent a car from Hertz Madeira Funchal. Worse customer service and scam/ fraud I ever encountered.They will charge your card a few days later after you pay and sign your bill with extras / airport charges. They did not expect us to stay in Madeira longer so we went to the desk and complained. We had an extremely disappointing experience with Hertz during our trip to Madeira. While the initial car was fine, things took a turn when the brakes failed, and we were left dealing with a replacement car that was in poor condition. The worst part was the humiliating and disrespectful treatment from an employee named Rute at the airport. She refused to help, mocked us, raised her voice, and cynically claimed she was "the only one at Hertz in the entire world" while she refused giving us contact info of her supervisors. Her appalling behavior has led us to avoid Hertz in the future, and we strongly advice others to think twice before booking with them.
Worst experience in all the car rentals we ever had. What a nightmare, that spoiled our entire vacation. Be prepared to wait more than an hour in the queue upon car pickup. There's usually just one employee at the desk, and all information have to be written by hand on a paper, before they manually re-enter them into their PC. Easily 20 minutes per person. Finally after waiting we got a different car than we booked. They only have cars with manual transmission. The worst came upon car return. The lady employee from Hertz which was examining the car was rude and was clearly trying to find any reason just to charge us more money. "Hey look! Here you DAMAGED THE CAR!" -When it was just a piece of dirt that we cleaned. She did not listen to us, took a photo and charged us 460 EUR for the damages. When we asked why, and what is in this cost she did not explain. When we asked further, she did not want to provide any information how to challenge the claim and file a dispute. The only response from this Hertz employee was: "Sign Here and PAY". Sorry but this is just bad customer service. Afterwards, don't expect to get in touch with Hertz because they do not answer the phone and do not reply to E-Mails and online Charge dispute forms. We tried everything to no avail. If you plan to rent a car in Madeira, do NOT go with Hertz, apparently their business plan is to scam people.
Im a Hertz Gold Member and this station is doing its job like all other stations do.... The refilling is at all stations around the world blocked at the begining of the rental so did this station. If anyone of the costumers thinks its cheaper to let it refill then refill it before you give it back is just naive... sorry but i cant understand the comments about this at all.... they say how much they charge so you decide what you will do ;) they pay for the fuel and someone needs to refill and drive it this cost and will be never for free.... so its very common that this service costs extra :) I got a car and it had two more scratches then they had marked in the document so i rised it to the person send the pictures to the email that was provided to me and i was happy to go on my journey :) I parked the car at 4am and this was also business as usual keybox and so on was marked.

DO NOT RENT A CAR HERE! Beware of this car rental company. Its employees use practices that make the car more expensive for you by several hundred euros per week per rental. they will give you expensive insurance for everything possible when you hand over the car. You will receive a different vehicle than was booked in advance over the Internet. When handing over the car, they don't want to sign the handover protocol about the condition of the vehicle, even though I directly asked about it. Before we got to the plane, I received an email saying that I had not signed the protocol. I sent all the information to the company's email after the flight from Madeira. several months of correspondence did not lead to any normal answer - just classic phrases, how the client is the first place for them... the managers of the company know about these practices and only cover their subordinates in this. Such a large international car rental company should have a different way of working than it does in Madeira, Portugal. The condition of the rented vehicle was fine.
Worst car hire company I have dealt with and I deal with alot. Never got my deposit back and charged my credit card extra money for fees which they dont tell you about until you return the car. Picked up the car and it had some minor scratches and damage on it, I took photos of everything upon pick-up, but they are still blaming me for it. Apparently they do this to alot of people.
Fraudulent company do not use. Have charged me £200 for allegedly changing the tire on the car to a faulty one. Why would I change the tire on a hire car!? Have sent 5 emails with no reply. Do not use this company.
Haven t even got there yet and they are taking the mick, want to charge me 180 euros for a baby seat!!?
Uns wurde gesagt, dass wir das Auto bei der Rückgabe nicht auftanken müssen. Na ratet mal wer eine Rechnung über 50 Euro fürs nicht Tanken erhalten hat? ;)
De mensen aan de balie waren snel en vriendelijk, maar toen we de auto ophaalden, kregen we een oude auto mee (we betaalden extra voor een nieuwe) met versleten remmen. Nadat we terug waren gegaan werd er heel moeilijk gedaan over ruilen (er zou geen vervanging zijn). Toen we doordrukten en besloten niet weg te gaan, was er toch een auto beschikbaar die paste binnen onze reservering

Worst experience I ever had to book a rental car. First they could not give us the car 20 min earlier but it was no problem for them to hand it over 1h too late. Further the whole booking rules are not coherent and they force you to pay extra for things they put wrong in their guidelines. I will never book a car with them again

Sinceramente parlando ci siamo trovati molto bene e voglio inserire questa recensione perché guardando le altre recensioni questa compagnia non sembra troppo affidabile. Servizio molto Smart e semplice, direttamente all interno dell aeroporto di trova lo sportello Hertz, dove vengono consegnate chiavi e le indicazioni per trovare l auto: addirittura forniscono un video su YouTube di come trovare e riconsegnare l auto nel parcheggio. Ad aggiungersi un contatto whatsapp che rispondere velocemente e dal quale è possibile segnalare qualsiasi problema. Alla consegna vengono mostrati i danni dell auto e la situazione as it is del mezzo, mentre alla consegna seppure nel nostro caso non avevamo il controllo istantaneo dell auto, a causa del volo la mattina presto, sono stati impeccabili e affidabili nella valutazione dello stato di riconsegna dell auto. Consigliata la prenotazione con Booking

Bei den Bergen von Madeira sollte es eine Mindestanzahl an PS geben. Wir hatten einen 67 PS starken Picanto, welcher von seiner Leistung absolut unzureichend für die Berge dort war. Teilweise war man an Bergen nur eine Verkehrsbehinderung. Das Auto hatte mehrere Macken, wovon manche nicht zählen würden. Trotzdem gab es bei uns keine Probleme oder negativen Diskussionen.
Arnaque total. Le conseiller du check-in nous a informer des conditions de retour cependant le check-out (conseiller pas très agreable) à été différent. Nous avons donc du sortir la carte bleue en plus
Servizio clienti scadente e fraudolento. Purtroppo avevo il volo presto e alla consegna auto non cera presente nessuno a controllare e ho potuto solo lasciare le chiavi nella buca. Risultato: mi hanno trattenuto dei soldi sulla carta per dei danni allauto che non ho causato io. Nonostante io abbia scritto delle mail con le prove che il danno cera già in precedenza non sto ricevendo nessuna risposta. Sconsiglio vivamente a chiunque di affidarsi ad Hertz, e consiglio di scegliere un altro noleggio auto.

Terrible experience.. met with a long line after a late flight where the employees took their sweet time (20 minutes+) per customer. They had 2 employees at first, but one of the staff left after helping just one person in line. It took hours to get our car, causing us to miss our dinner and lodging check in s - have never seen anything like this. Absolutely terrible customer service. Do yourself a favor and use any other car rental service, as hertz seems to be completely incompetent.
Kolejka i czekanie na poczatek, blokada razy dwa na karcie na koniec . Informuj o du ym ruchu w miescie (jest raczej zwyczajny), nie informuj o bardzo w skich drogach na wyspie -> bierzcie o rozmiar mniejszy samochód ni jeste cie przyzwyczajeni, najlepiej hybryd 4x4, eby wjecha na podjazdy o nachyleniu ponad 30 stopni.
Bunch of scammers. Charged extra 250euro because we didnt know prepaid cards are not acceptable. There was no information about it. And this is after we paid full price for the rental. Also they dont give full money back when cancel. Only go when you have physical id that has the same name as your bank card.

Unmögliches Verhalten der Dame am Service. Ich habe eine Rückgabe Uhrzeit fest gebucht und bezahlt und die Dame meint die Rückgabezeit auf dem Mietwagenschein einfach 1 Stunde nach vorne zu verlegen. Sie hat uns vorab gefragt wann unser Rückflug geht und da ich es nicht genau im Kopf hatte habe ich eine ungefähre Uhrzeit genannt. Ist ja auch egal für eine Mietwagenfirma, da ich ja feste Zeiten gebucht habe. So wie immer. Als ich anmerkte, dass die Rückgabezeit falsch ist sagte sie nur wir müssten ja eh zwei Stunden vor Abflug am Flughafen sein. So eine absolute Frechheit habe ich selten erlebt. Ich werde wohl noch selbst entscheiden dürfen wann ich vor Abflug am Flughafen bin und meine gebuchte Zeit möchte ich auch behalten. Absolute Frechheit. Das ist Abzocke auf höchstem Niveau für Menschen die sich mit dem Mietwagen Prozedere nicht auskennen. Natürlich hat sie noch versucht uns die üblichen unnötigen Dinge anzudrehen, wie mit leerem Tank zurück bringen etc...
I cannot recommend this rental station at all. The lady who served me at the counter was incredibly unfriendly. Moreover, she pressured me into choosing the Refueling Options, which was supposed to cost me 71.10 ( 1.58 per liter). I got a Clio and realized that it could never hold 71.10 worth of fuel. Despite this, the lady insisted that it would definitely be worth it and became extremely unfriendly, leaving me feeling forced to sign. The Clio had a tank capacity of 45 liters, which at 1.58 per liter, amounted to the 71.10 that the service was supposed to cost. So, even if the car had no fuel left at all, it still wouldnt be worthwhile for the customer. One should be honest and tell the customer that it might be a bit more expensive, but at least they dont have to refuel themselves. But stubbornly insisting that it is financially worthwhile for the customer and becoming extremely unfriendly is unacceptable! I can only advise every customer against visiting this rental station. And if you do, refuel yourself - there is a gas station just 500 meters away.
Bei uns hat alles gut funktioniert. (Vorab über check24 gebucht). Uns wurde zwar auch angeboten, den Wagen am Ende voll zu tanken gegen einen bestimmten Preis, war uns aber zu unsicher, haben selbst vollgetankt. Und eine Versicherung wurde uns angeboten, die wir aber auch nicht brauchten. Man sollte gut englisch sprechen, um alles zu verstehen und lieber großzügig Fotos vom Ist Zusand machen. Das Auto war sehr sauber und es hat alles gut funktioniert. Auch die Rückgabe hat problemlos geklappt! Übrigens würde ich allen Urlaubern empfehlen, paar Mülltüten und evtl Handtücher ins Auto zu legen. Bei einer Wanderung wurden wir unerwartet nass und die Schuhe dreckig.
Picking up the car took forever. They gave us a smaller car than what we booked. The car was in an overall bad condition, had 50k km and the clutch was extremely worn. The engine was way to small (1.0l) for Madeiras mountains, which put us in a few precarious situations. The overall service condition is quite bad, braking makes the wheel shake, oil service is overdue. An orange warning light came on a few times.
I am a frequent Hertz customer and rented here thinking this agency wouldnt follow the unpleasant practices of other island rentals, but unfortunately, that wasnt the case. They provided a report on the cars condition, marking some existing damages, but once we picked it up, it had many more. Fortunately, we had additional insurance, so they couldnt charge us for them. The car had issues with the SOS system and occasionally indicated that it needed to go to a service station, but the warning disappeared after a few minutes. We rented a car with air conditioning, but it didnt work properly. Once at the airport, we tried to speak with the staff at the counter, but we waited 20 minutes, and no one ever showed up, even though the agency was open. Not recommended. EDIT: After contacting customer service, Hertz understood our needs and concerns. Their customer service was very responsive and promptly addressed the issues, clearly explaining each point. I appreciate the attention and professionalism shown in handling the problem.
Meine Abholung am Schalter war ganz entspannt ohne lange Wartezeit. Die Dame mit der schwarzen Brille von der ich hier schon öfter gelesen habe war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Leider wurde mir aber auch hier die Tankoption aufgeschwatzt mit der Begründung dass diese Option für das Tanken für 71,10 günstiger wäre. Das war leider gelogen. Da ich viel gefahren bin musste ich einmal komplett volltanken und es passten nur 40 Liter in den Tank. Bei 1,58 pro Liter macht das 63,20 und damit 8 günstiger. Das Problem bei dieser Option ist auch, dass der volle Preis berechnet wird selbst wenn 10 Liter im Tank fehlen sollten. Das ist wirklich ein sehr teurer Spaß. Daher habe ich das Fahrzeug mit vollem Tank sowie Außen- und Innenreinigung abgegeben und hatte damit keine Extrakosten. Waschen und aussaugen kostete insgesamt nur 5 . Anfangs ließen mich die Bewertungen nachts nicht einschlafen, aber am Ende würde ich letztendlich wieder bei Hertz mein Mietwagen buchen! Vielen Dank! Obrigado!
Atendimento rápido e eficiente ,recomendo
Freundliche Mitarbeiter am Counter. Erstellung der Dokumente und Erklärungen zur Übernahme des Leihwagens, ging flott. Fahrzeugschäden zum Übergabezeitpunkt wurden in Form von Bildern auf einem Monitor gezeigt. Diese Bilder wurden dann auch an meine e-mail Adresse geschickt, so das man das draussen am Wagen noch einmal abgleichen konnte. Da waren dann zwei kleine Schäden am Wagen, die nicht auf den Bildern zu sehen waren. Ein Mitarbeiter dort unten an der Übergabestation nahm sich gleich der Sache an, und dokumierte Diese. So das es bei der Rückgabe bzgl dieser Schäden keine Probleme geben sollte. Auch die Rückgabe am Ende des Urlaubes, sehr unkompliziert. Wir waren mit der Rückgabe des Wagen nach 5 Minuten durch - super. Hinweis : Anfahrt zur Rückgabestelle - gerade wenn man aus Richtung Funchal kommt, am besten von Goggle Maps leiten lassen, weil, sonst fährt man sich einen Wolf.
Ajout de frais pour des km alors que mon voucher indiquait bien kilometre illimité.. En rendant la voiture jai insisté sur ce point, lhotesse ma promis de faire le necessaire et de me renseigner le lendemain. Je nai pas eu de nouvelle, pire, on ma facturé des km exedentaires à hauteur de 125 euros... un conseil : ne faites pas confiance, ils ne sont pas professinnels chez hertz. Tres tres deçu, jespere que mon expérience servira à vous eviter pareil arnaque. Une honte...

Little bit of waiting time on arrival but great and friendly service. We got a Kia Xceed instead of the Fiat 500 and we were very happy in the end with our car. Plenty of safety features, auto transmission made life much easier in hilly Madeira and much more power than the Fiat. Friendly personnal, will return here in the future.

They charged us on our credit card more than double what we had agreed upon in our contract at the counter. Nine months later, despite contacting them numerous times to refund the difference, they simply replied that the difference was due to our bank and that they apparently did not refund the difference (after checking with our bank, this is obviously not possible...). Unfortunately, after reading some reviews, we are not the only ones who have had this kind of problem. In short, I cant recommend this franchise less.

We had a reservation for an automatic car and because they didn t have the car available we booked we got an upgrade to a BMW m series with loads of damages and poor profile on the tyres. Not much of an upgrade though, after putting our box of sweet treats on the back seat and arriving to our hotel we found out there was an ant infestation in the car which had completely taken over our food. No problem to switch the car of course and at that point we could get the car we had paid for as they so nicely stated. But we lost time driving back and forth to the airport and our food. At least they admitted this wasn t normal but no one tries to go the extra mile and offer anything for the inconvenience. Avoid at all cost. EDIT: After writing an email to Hertz customer services (they respond to every 1 star review) they did not provide a satisfactory explanation or propose a compensation of any kind. I stand by my review, avoid this company as they have a poor cleaning and inspection process!

I had a pretty nice experience renting a car here for my visit to Madeira. The staff wasn t the warmest but everything was smooth
14min hat es gedauert bis ich die Schlüssel zum über ein deutsches Vergleichsportal gebuchtes Auto in der Hand gehalten habe. Freundlich und Schnell. Es wurde einmal kurz gefragt ob man Risiken bereits bei der Buchung abgesichert hat, insofern wurde auch nichts aufgequatscht. Das Angebot das Auto gegen eine fixe Gebühr abzugeben mit leerem Tank macht nur Sinn, wenn der Tank wirklich absolut leer ist, wir sind bei 90% leeren Tank mit tanken günstiger gefahren. Es gab ein gratis Upgrade auf einen SUV, da wir jedoch nur zu zweit waren wäre ein besser motorisierter kleiner Wagen die bessere Alternative für die Insel gewesen. Sehr zeitgemäß ist der QR-Code Link zum Video wie man den Parkplatz findet.
I had a really great experience with Hertz in May. The service was quick and had no extra costs or hidden surprises (I booked online prior to arriving). They even upgraded me to a better car for free without asking. I would recommend an Automatic Transmission as parking can be quite steep! Thanks Hertz!

Arrived to pick up our prebooked car about 1h20 prior to scheduled time and we re told we would have to come back - assumed this may be because the car was not yet ready, however the couple directly behind us in line did not have a booking and rented directly at the counter (same car style) and were on their way in <10 minutes. Asked to simply cancel our booking and book direct at the counter to expedite the process which was not a problem, but would be price gouged as they would not match our online price. Maybe I m missing something, but seems like little more than poor customer service from Manager Andrea and her staff. Also, my partner is a Hertz Gold Plus member but since I m doing the driving (she completed the booking), we were told this is irrelevant - will be looking to cancel this membership upon return to North America and searching for a better international option in future.

Vente forcée dune option carburant et mensonges à répétition: on vous fait peur en vous parlant dune voiture de 67ch (la voiture en faisait 95 ce qui est très acceptable pour une compacte), cest le premier mensonge on vous promet de faire des économies dans tous les cas via loption carburant (refusée mais malgré tout ajoutée).. cest encore faux, le réservoir fait 40 litres et pas 50 (cest encore un mensonge) et à 1.62 le litre, loption carburant reste un mauvais plan quelque soit le niveau à laquelle la voiture est rendue. malgré tout, voiture correcte et relativement récente. Dommage que cette dame de laccueille soit si proche de Pinocchio ps : merci pour lemail envoyé par la suite avec vos conseils sur lutilisation dun embrayage et de mes clignotants... Je savais conduire avant de vous rencontrer, cest presque vexant :)
Bei der Abholung des Mietwagens haben wir explizit nachgefragt und uns wurde versichert, dass wir bereits alles bezahlt hätten und vollständig versichert seien, einschließlich einer Vollkaskoversicherung. Der Hertz-Mitarbeiter betonte lediglich, dass wir eine Kaution hinterlegen müssten, die uns nach der Rückgabe des Fahrzeugs erstattet würde. Basierend auf dieser Aussage vertrauten wir darauf und gingen davon aus, dass alle Zahlungen abgedeckt waren. Nun sind wir jedoch schockiert und fühlen uns betrogen, da uns die hinterlegte Kaution in Höhe von 460 Euro nicht zurückerstattet wurde. Angeblich haben wir eine zusätzliche Versicherung abgeschlossen, obwohl uns diese Option nie angeboten wurde und wir dementsprechend auch nicht zugestimmt haben. Wir sind sehr enttäuscht von dieser Situation und insbesondere von der mangelnden Transparenz während der Buchung und Abholung des Mietwagens. Darüber hinaus sind wir frustriert über die schleppende Reaktion von Hertz auf unsere zahlreichen Kontaktversuche. Wir haben bereits mehrere Male versucht, das Unternehmen telefonisch zu erreichen und E-Mails geschrieben, jedoch keine angemessene Antwort erhalten. Diese mangelnde Kommunikation verschärft nur unsere Unzufriedenheit und erhöht den Eindruck, dass Hertz unsere Anliegen nicht ernst nimmt.

Quand on le fait remarquer à la personne (pas du tout aimable) en charge de l état des lieux sur le parking, sa réponse est : la voiture est inspectée et le contrôle n a rien montré de particulier Plaquettes de frein sur la ferraille, ce qui est plutôt embêtant lorsqu on circule sur l île de Madère (ça monte beaucoup, et ça descend forcément beaucoup). On vous force gentiment la main de rendre le véhicule réservoir vide, pour payer 63 de frais. Ce qui pour notre voiture n avait aucun intérêt si ce n est perdre de l argent (plein à 57 , en étant sur la réserve)
Bonjour, Je regrette que vous nayez pas de mail pour répondre à ma demande... Je dois louer une voiture du 06 au 12 aout 2023 à laéroport de Madère chez Hertz et jai une carte Visa premier sur laquelle est mentionnée crédit -débit, ce qui signifie que jai bien loption crédit ou débit différé mais également loption débit immédiat. La En contactant BSP Auto, on maffirme que Hertz à laéroport de Madère refusera ma carte bancaire au moment de récupérer la voiture de location. Javoue être dépitée par leurs propos et ne pas comprendre pourquoi ma carte bancaire serait refusée sachant que jai bien le débit différé sur cette carte et la mention créditdessus. La situation est ubuesque ! Pouvez-vous me confirmer que Hertz à laéroport de Funchal prendra bien ma carte bancaire pour louer la voiture ? Jattends avec impatience votre réponse ; je pars dans une semaine sans avoir la certitude de visiter lîle avec une voiture !
Stay away from Hertz in Madeira - they will scam you, deduct a random additional amout of money from your credit card after you return the car and then simply ignore all your multiple emails inquiring about what the additional money was deducted for. They dont have staff present at their return point during their opening hours and use the fact that you are then forced to return the key into a key box as a way to steal your money, while you already are on your way home and unable to do anything about it anymore (other than write numerous emails, which you wont get any reaction to).

Moi aussi, ils débitent des frais supplémentaires sur ma carte alors que lors de la réception, lagent nous a bien spécifié que tout était ok. Jai envoyé 2 mails à ladresse demandée mais aucune réponse. Désormais, cest ma protection juridique qui va prendre en main le dossier. Si vous souhaitez louer une voiture, ne passez pas par eux. Ils sont très chers et malhonnêtes.

Getting the car took very long. There were a few people before us, and everyone took at least 15 minutes, even if the car was already reserved. For the payment, we had to try with different credit cards, the prepaid credit card was not even an option. That s quite suboptimal in my opinion, as this has never been an issue anywhere else, and I use this card at a daily basis. I almost would have needed to pay 30 euros per day additional in order to pay for some overpriced insurance. I would recommend to Hertz to improve their support for payment methods, prepaid and debit credit cards are quite widely spread nowadays. Apart from the bad experience of getting the car, the car itself is good. Has enough PS to come up the steep streets of Madeira.

Buenos días alquile un coche con vuestra compañía, hoy tenía que devolverlo a las 8 y la oficina abre a las 7 así que a las 7:05 llegué a la oficina del aeropuerto de Madeira Cristiano Ronaldo y estuve esperando hasta las 7:20, nadie apareció, tuve que dejar las llaves detrás del mostrador porque mi vuelo salía a las 7:50, espero que lo entiendan que no voy a perder un vuelo por el hecho de entregar unas llaves , el coche está aparcado en su sitio y las llaves entregadas, envié un correo al Gmail de soporte pero me lo han bloqueado

Nachdem wir schlechte Erfahrungen mit s**** vor Ort machen mussten, haben wir schlussendlich bei Hertz einen Ford Fiesta für unsere Woche auf Madeira angemietet. Unkomplizierte Abwicklung, Preis war gut und sehr nette und kompetente Mitarbeiterin, vielen Dank!
Grundsätzlich sind wir sehr zufriden, dennoch gibt es würklich diese versteckten Kosten! Ich hatte online über booking für 9 Tage für 195.- gebucht und bei der abholung wurden mir nochmals Youngdriverkosten, Tank und Putzkosten für 180.- verrechnet was ich auch nicht ok fand! (Tank kann leer sein bei der Abgabe) Die Abgabe verlief aber zum glück schnell und unkompliziert!
Wir buchen seit vielen Jahres unseren Urlaubsmietwagen (über Sunny Cars) bei Hertz am Flughafen FNC (zuletzt vor etwa zwei Wochen) und sind sehr zufrieden. Super nettes Personal, schöne Autos, noch nie Probleme.

From a seamless booking and check-in to fast processing, the service was excellent. The cars were in top condition, easy to find, and I would choose them again anytime in the future. shocking experience, they scam you. i did not approved to buy any insurance, but they charged me anyway 450 euros, literally a fraud. they know that for this amount its not worth to drag lawyers into this and so they fell free to do whatever they want. It s really sad that no one allow us to protect customers, and moreover PERSONAL RIGHTS

Dont rent a HERTZ car they lie about the fuel. Always return full, never let them refill it, cleaning fee is also mandatory even if the car is clean they will tell you otherwise! I would give 0 stars. Epecially the woman on the counter are super friendly but lie to you. Feels like fraud!
Dreadful. Watch like a hawk every element of your transaction and most importantly take your own comprehensive photographs of your hire before otherwise you will be charged for every tiny scratch not recorded. I had 2 consecutive awful experiences and frankly would take public buses other than have to hire fro them. Plenty other car hire companies - dont go near them!
Wir hatten die selben Probleme mit der Tankregelung wie viele Nutzer bereits beschrieben haben. Die Frau am Schalter war sehr nett und bestätigte uns auch nach 3 maliger Nachfrage, dass wir das Auto mit halbvollen Tank oder darunter zurückbringen sollen dann ist das Tanken günstiger. Sie erwähnte nie den Fixpreis der bezahlt werden muss, sondern gab uns den Eindruck, dass nur der Rest des Tankes abgerechnet wird. Ebenso auf der Rechnung/Vertrag ist es nicht klar ersichtlich. Wir retournierten es mit ca. halb vollem Tank und mussten stolze 86 euro bezahlen für die Tankfüllung. 40 euro zu viel! Ebenso berechnen sie eine Reinigungsgebür und extra Kilometer bei Überschreitung (alles ohne Steuer angegeben!!!) Es kommen nochmals 22% hinzu aufgepasst!

Extrem langsame Bearbeitung bei der Abholung. Obwohl nur 6 Leute vor mir waren fast 1 Stunde Wartezeit. Die Dame ist sehr freundlich, braucht aber wirklich unfassbar lange. Und dann nur 1 Schalter geöffnet. Das kenne ich sonst locker 3x schneller. Am Ende funktioniert dann nicht mal die Karte um aus dem Parkhaus raus zu fahren was einem dann nochmal 15 Minuten Fußweg hin und zurück kostet. Meinen Termin habe ich nun verpasst.
We rented a vehicle at the Hertz office at Funchal Airport, Madeira Island. After one day of use, we left the parked vehicle in the parking lot and our right side rearview mirror was broken and a small dent was made. After all, we called the police and a report was made. A week later, we receive an invoice from HERTZ in the amount of EUR 650.00, which we need to pay because we did not have a super CDW, and this is in line with real costs. A day later, we receive an invoice of EUR 1,100.00, which we are complaining about, but no one is still responding to the written complaint about that amount. After countless e-mails asking for a police report, they first claim that the event was not reported to the police, and we showed them a proof that we contacted the police, they try to charge us 39 euros and 19 euros per page! All together a complete rip-off of customers! We also do not know whether the perpetrator of the damage was caught and whether HERTZ may have already been charged the damage two times, once by us and the second time by the compulsory car insurance from the driver that made the damage. We decided not to let this go like this and to seek all other legal assistance inside EU. Our rental agreement number is: 788450693
Nur ein Stern! Nicht empfehlenswert. Wir haben über 2h in einer ewig langen Schlange auf unseren Leihwagen gewartet. Das Personal war zwar freundlich und bemüht, aber völlig unterbesetzt. Das Warten war anstrengend und ärgerlich, da wir extra einen frühen Flug genommen hatten und nicht damit gerechnet haben den kompletten Morgen am Flughafen zu verbringen. Die Organisation ist sehr schlecht, obwohl man den Leihwagen bereits online gebucht und bereits alles ausgefüllt hat und auch einen Voucher bekommt, werden noch viele Fragen zusätzlich gestellt mit Informationen, die bereits durch den Buchungsprozess vorhanden sein müssten was den Prozess pro Person noch verlängert. Unter diesen Konditionen kann ich Hertz Madeira auf keinen Fall weiter empfehlen zumal an keiner der vielen anderen Leihwagen Vermietungen eine solche Schlange zu sehen war. Es ist definitiv eine große Zeitverschwendung!!!

Reserva fácil e simples. Na altura foi o valor mais barato para um carro de categoría Y (Renault clio) para o período de 1 semana. Check-in demorou um pouco, mas correu bem e deram-nos um carro de categoría W (Nissan Juke). A performance do carro foi impecável. A entrega do carro foi rápida e sem qualquer problema. Aconselhamos a Hertz.

Warning, watch out for their scam, they will state you do not have to fill up the fuel because it is cheaper with them but they will bill high service costs for this! Back to goldcar again next time

Agent at return desk gave me a blank tablet and said to sign to return the vehicle. This was actually a signature to agree to an over 1000 Euro charge for a small scratch on the door. Not sure why the employee would act this way. They stated that there was damage to the front of the car when only the side door was scratched. Damage was also considered moderate for a scratch? Would highly advise booking with a travel credit card that has car insurance so that you do not experience a financial loss due to what I can only describe as dishonest Hertz employees.
Das Fahrzeug war gut, aber man sollte alles dokumentieren, um nicht überrascht zu werden. Bei der Rückgabe wurde eine defekte Parkkarte berechnet, die uns bereits im gleichen Zustand ausgehändigt wurde und es wurde Zigaretten-Geruch im Wagen festgestellt, obwohl wir nie im Wagen geraucht haben. Daraufhin sollte eine Wagenreinigung berechnet werden, die wir nach viel Diskussion noch abwenden konnten. Wir werden Hertz zukünftig meiden.

Probably the worst customer experience I ve ever had. I was treated so poorly and rudely by every member of staff I spoke to. They tried to accuse me of causing damage to their vehicle which was already there. I had taken photos beforehand and proved this - this is a really cheap move in an attempt to con more money out of me. I filled up the car in Funchal. When I returned to the airport, it was very slightly below empty. The member of staff got very confrontational about this. When I explained I had filled up and it s only just dropped below full and would probably require 5 to put it back to full he didn t care and said I would be charged. He never told me how much. When I challenged him on me he still didn t tell me. 5 minutes later in the airport I receive an email saying Ive been charged over 50. 18 to fill up (bearing in mind they were yet to do so) is a seriously inflated estimation, plus 30 for what I can only assume is some sort of punishment. And then the tax. Another con. In short, don t use them, use someone else.
Bei der Abholung war es schwierig, das Auto zu finden, da der Stand im Flughafengebäude nicht besetzt war! Mitarbeiter war scheinbar von meinem Anruf genervt, da ich kein Portugiesisch sprach (aus dem Gebäude raus in den ersten Turm, 1 nach oben, rüber und im zweiten Turm 3 nach unten ) Bei der Abgabe alles super gelaufen!
Wir waren sehr zufrieden. Die Mitarbeiter waren sehr freundlich. Die Übernahme und die Rückgabe des Fahrzeugs war sehr unkompliziert. Uns wurde bei der Übernahme nochmals alles ganz genau erklärt. Auch das man dass Fahrzeug vollgetankt zurückgeben muss.

Geben Defekte Autos aus und berechnen dann noch den Service Einsatz. Wir haben ein Auto erhalten bei dem nach 4 Tagen angezeigt wurde dass die 48V Batterie für den Bordcomputer leer ist und wir nicht weiter fahren sollen. Der Techniker meinte Auto austauschen da die Batterie nicht richtig geladen wird, das muss repariert werden und der Fehler kommt immer wieder. Hertz meinte dann nach Rückmeldung durch Techniker und uns ach Sie wollen Auto tauschen? Ja dann müssen Sie zum Flughafen. Nochmal erklärt dass wir nicht wollen sondern müssen weil Auto defekt. Haben das Auto dann am Flughafen getauscht, auf der Rücknahme stand Batterie tauschen. Heißt der nächste Mieter bekommt den selben Spaß. Batterie ist dann zwar wieder voll aber wird ja wieder nicht geladen. Als Krönung durften wir jetzt den Techniker Einsatz zahlen, weil wir ja die Batterie leer gefahren haben. Leute, es ist nicht die 12V Starter Batterie sondern die 48V Bordcomputer Batterie. Wenn wir schuld gewesen wären, wären beide Batterien leer gewesen. Ich würde nie nie nie wieder bei Hertz ein Auto buchen. Absolute Frechheit.

Voiture non fonctionnelle pour les dénivelés important de madère. Certains employés ont pu se montrer particulièrement désagréable.
Location du 14 au 20 juillet 2022. Très méfiant car ayant eu déjà des problèmes avec des agences de location, dont une à Funchal, je dois dire que tout s est bien passé. Location contrat Thrifty géré par Hertz. Accueil professionnel sans fausse empathie, pas de tentative de nous facturer des prestations inutiles, nous avons bénéficié sans rien demander, d un upgrade conséquent (nissan micra remplacé par Megane break hdi110 finition haut de gamme). Nous avons pu prolonger de deux jours la location au tarif journalier initial qui était correct. Et surtout, pas de mauvaise surprise à la restitution, d autant plus que nous avons du laisser le véhicule très tôt avant l ouverture de l agence. De notre côté nous avons fait très attention au véhicule, retourné propre, et le réservoir plein à ras bord! Seul bémol mineur, agence pas toujours ouverte aux horaires indiqués.

Bonne voiture adaptée aux routes de Madère. Véhicule dispo immédiatement. État des lieux de la voiture non OK (un phare cassé n était pas noté, heureusement que nous avons été vigilants !). Par contre le retour de la voiture a été un carnage. Arrivés a 7h20 au retour, le guichet était fermé, alors que c est censé être ouvert à 7h00) Impossible de rendre la voiture a l endroit prévu. Nous avons dû retourner à l endroit du Check in, pour rendre les clés. Accueil très désagréable, pas de possibilité de faire le tour de la voiture ensemble (« je ne peux pas être ici et là bas », nous dira la personne de hertz, qui nous mentionnera aussi que si on loupe notre avion à cause du Check out retardé, ce n est pas son problème). Le Check Out a été fait sans nous plus de 45 minutes plus tard.

Bij het ophalen van de auto. Was er een dwingende vorm van bij verkoop. We zouden onze auto moeten upgraden om door het eiland te kunnen rijden. Moesten ons best doen om gewoon onze gereserveerde auto mee te krijgen. Vervolgens komen we bij de auto en zitten er verschillende deuken en krassen op. Gevraagd aan een medewerker of die met ons mee kon kijken. Dit wilde ze niet. Alles stond volgens hen op de foto. Bij inleveren was er een grote inspectie en vonden ze een krasje. Niet goed terug te vinden op de foto omdat deze in een spiegeling zat. Zeer onbeleefd en onvriendelijk behandeld. Tip maak zelf van iedere kras een eigen foto. Laat deze vastleggen. Ga niet uit van de fotos van Hertz. Een zeer onbetrouwbaar bedrijf. Nog nooit eerder meegemaakt bij het huren van een auto. Echt GEEN aanrader.
Arrivés le 20/09/22 à minuit lâchés seul sur le parking avec un numéro de place.1er surprise la voiture ne correspond pas à ma réservation.personne sur place et le loueur me dit que des photos du véhicule pour constat me seront envoyées par mail.Au retour le matin, là bizarrement une hôtesse Mme Sarah Viana inspecté minutieusement mon véhicule et trouve 2 petits impact sur le bas caisse avant! Stupéfaction totale alors que la voiture a dormi dans un parking privé ! Coût de lopération 241 facturé ! Fuyez ce loueur cest du vol organisé .Car comme par hasard la 1er photo sur mon mail du bas de caisse est la seule qui na pas lieu dêtre puisque aucun impact alors que toutes les autres photos montrent des impacts!Hertz pratique du VOL ORGANISÉ Fuyez ce loueur
Attention vente forcée de loption carburant (on vous tend le papier déjà imprimé avec loption incluse) Vérifiez et demandez à réimprimer le papier sans cette option si vous ne la souhaitez pas. Cette technique est malhonnête. Voiture et procédures ok, mais insistez fortement pour quils ajoutent les diverses rayures et impactes (dont pare brise), et prenez le temps de bien revérifier que les points sont marqués avant de signer. Les pneumatiques étaient en fin de vie et un était très abîmé sur le flanc. Cétait glissant et dangereux, particulièrement avec les conditions de route et de circulation à Madère. Expérience franchement mitigée.

Wir hatten über Sunnycars gebucht . BMW 225xe mit 29000 km bekommen . Sogar Automatik, was auf der Insel von Vorteil ist. Golfklasse war gebucht . Daher hat alles gepasst . Sehr freundliche und hilfsbereite Mitarbeiterin sowohl beim Abholen als auch beim Zurückgeben. Keine zusätzlichen Versicherungen aufgeschwatzt bekommen . Alles super und problemlos !
Attention! Si vous louez une voiture chez eux vous ne pourrez pas la prendre avec vous sur le ferry pour Porto Santo. Ou alors à vos risques et périles... Nous avons réservé un break type Seat leon. On a reçus un break BMW avec un coffre minuscule. Impossible de charger les valises. Heureusement en insistant on a réussi à se faire eschanger la voiture. Lors de la réservation on vous indique que lon va vous débiter 90 euros sur votre visa pour refaire le plein et quil est plus avantageux de laisser la voiture avec le réservoir vide. Alors que le plein nous a couté 50 euros....

Quick and friendly service, however, in the tiny tiny print, it seems that if you dont return the car with a full tank, they dont charge you for the fuel youve used, they charge you for a full tank. Over 70 euros. This is greedy. I wont use them again.
Das gemietete Fahrzeug war super. Gab sogar ein Upgrade. Bei der Vermietstation wurde uns angeboten, den Tank bei der Abgabe nicht aufzufüllen. Das würden sie übernehmen da sie bessere Konditionen beim Kauf von Benzin hätten. NICHT machen, es bleibt günstiger selbst zu tanken. Bei Abgabe des Fahrzeuges wurde uns bestätigt dass alles ok sei und keine weitere Kosten entstehen. Zack wurden über 70 von der Kreditkarte abgezogen. Angeblich war das der zusatzfahrer. Bei uns war das aber schon im Vertrag enthalten. Erst nach einer Beschwerde bei Check24 wurde uns das Geld erstattet. Leider nie wieder Hertz bzw Dollar
Die Anmietung des im voraus gebuchten Wagens dauerte länger als nötig. Der Wagen hatte eine Vielzahl von optischen Mängeln, Kratzer und Dellen. Von innen war das Fahrzeug nicht richtig sauber. Der Wagen wurde nicht übergeben sondern stand auf einem Parkplatz der Autovermieter und musste erst mal gefunden werden. Die mitgegebene Schrankenkarte funktionierte nicht. Bei der Rückgabe des Wagens war der Parkplatz gesperrt. Hinweise zum Rückgabeort fehlten in Gänze. Nur durch mehrfaches Fragen fanden wir den Mitarbeiter der Firma Hertz. Zum Glück war die Rückgabe ohne Mängel. Ich miete nächstes Mal woanders.

We rented a car for one week on Aug. 19th. We had to wait in line for 35 minutes although there were only 2 customers ahead of us. The check-in procedure took another 25 minutes although everything was booked and paid in advance and my personal information was in the system already. My long-year Hertz Gold status was not accepted because I had booked through a low cost vendor. The latter I understand but why does the check-in process take so extraordinary long? The car itself, Opel Astra station wagon was old and shabby but just ok for Madeira (62000 km, approx. 3 years). From a premium rental car brand like Hertz I would have expected a better service.

Trotz eines Buchungsfehlers unseres Reisebüros wurden wir von Andrea am Schalter sehr kompetent und freundlich beraten. Vielen Dank. Relativ neues Auto in einwandfreiem Zustand erhalten und auch unterwegs keine Probleme.
Hi Leute, Kleine Warnung aber das gilt sicher für alle Auto-Vermietungen...Die Damen am Schalter waren zunächst sehr freundlich, bis man das dritte angebotene Upgrade ausgeschlagen hat. Lasst euch da nicht übers Ohr hauen. Wir haben einen Renault Twingo mit nur 0,9L Hubraum mit manuellem Getriebe gebucht, das ist nicht viel aber wir kamen damit auch auf jeden Berg und in der Kurve gut zurecht(anders als prophezeit), man muss sich nur bisschen daran gewöhnen. Ansonsten war alles super: Auto sauber, das Auto hatte keine 6.000 runter, die Leute unten die den Wagen übergeben und angenommen haben waren unkompliziert und super nett.

Overall everything went well. Processing and communication at the counter was uncomplicated. The Renault Clio was brand new with fairly good equipment and 90 hp. Completely sufficient for the island

Tire break caused 500 eur extra cost, altought we had full insirance. Those considering to rent from this company should consider this. In these terms, It is too risky and expensive to rent from Hertz.
